A wind farm typically consists of a large number of individual wind turbine generators (WTGs) connected by an internal electrical network. To study the impact of wind farms on the dynamics of the power system, an important issue is to develop appropriate wind farm models to represent the dynamics of many individual WTGs. This paper presents various dynamic models, including a detailed model and three reduced-order equivalent models, of wind farms with fixed-speed WTGs. These models are developed and compared by simulation studies in the PSCAD/EMTDC environment under different wind velocity and fluctuation conditions as well as gird fault conditions. Concluding remarks are provided on how to choose an appropriate wind farm model for power system dynamic and transient studies.

We propose a 3D nonparametric, entropy-based, coupled, multishape approach for the segmentation of subcortical brain structures in magnetic resonance images (MRI). Our method uses PCA to capture structures variability. Because of complex relationships of pose and shape of the coupled structures, we only use their shape and size relation. To this end, we apply separate registrations of the structures. For each structure, we consider a similarity transform using seven parameters. In addition, to generate most accurate results, we estimate probability density functions (pdf) iteratively. The proposed method minimizes an entropy-based energy function using quasi-Newton algorithm. To improve the results, we use analytical derivatives. Sample results are given for the segmentation of putamen, thalamus and caudate illustrating the impact of coupling on the accuracy of the results.

This paper presents a comprehensive overview of the current state of research in the area of Networked controlsystems (NCSs) first. Then two modeling and control methods are introduced for NCSs in details. The first one is a stochastic control method, which investigates the H{sub}∞ control problem for NCSs with random network-induced delay. The second one is a switch control method, which focuses on solving the stabilization problem for NCSs in discrete-time domain, where both network-induced delay and packet dropout are taken into account. Illustrative examples are given to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed approaches. Finally, this paper concludes with the discussion of possible future development of NCSs from a control perspective.

Conducting After Action Reviews that provides feedback to the majority of the participants in large exercises, with trainees that may reside in different locations can be very complicated. This process requires extensive time and resources, and the review might be limited to the few most important tactical decisions made. However, the evaluation of an exercise is highly important to improve performance of the trainees. This paper presents the latest results in research to automate the After Action Review. Here we present how the intent of a trainee might deviate from the desirable intent and be detected in any training scenario. The technique is to use an expert modeling paradigm based on contexts together with a deviation detection mechanism that can infer the context of the trainee in order to detect discrepancies between him and the expert model. Furthermore, the model is automatically created by observing real human performance. Preliminary results of this approach are described.

This paper presents an intelligent gain scheduling adaptive control approach for nonlinear plants. A fuzzy PI discrete controller is optimally designed by using a multiobjective genetic algorithm for simultaneously satisfying the following specifications: overshoot and settling time minimizations and output response smoothing. A neural gain scheduler is designed, by the backpropagation algorithm, to tune the optimal parameters of the fuzzy PI controller at some operating points. Simulation results are shown for adaptive speed control of a DC servomotor used as actuator of robotic manipulators

In this paper we have considered systems in which agents communicate via their environment. In these systems the agents do not have direct and explicit communication with each other and instead they have implicit communication which is performed via the environment they are located in. Different kinds of environment elements are considered to be changed while on the other hand for all of these situations there is a change in the environment and this change means potential stimuli that fires behaviors of agents for future. It is considered that if we can find a track of changes in the environment and find the roots of a movement in an agent that is originally made by another agent of the group

This paper deals with the simultaneous estimation of the rotor flux and the rotor resistance of induction motors by a modified Luenberger observer. The proposed observer assumes that only the motor speed and the stator currents are measured. Its corrective terms are based on the derivative of stator currents. The use of the Lyapunov's theory for the flux observer stability analysis permits to give an adaptive law for the on-line rotor resistance estimation. This observer is combined with a direct field oriented control to achieve a robust speed and flux control. Simulation results are presented to evaluate the performances of this control-observer structure scheme
