Passive acoustic monitoring is emerging as a promising solution to the urgent, global need for new biodiversity assessment methods. The ecological relevance of the soundscape is increasingly recognised, and the affordability of robust hardware for remote audio recording is stimulating international interest in the potential for acoustic methods for biodiversity *** scale of the data involved requires automated methods,however, the development of acoustic sensor networks capable of sampling the soundscape across time and space and relaying the data to an accessible storage location remains a significant technical challenge, with power management at its core. Recording and transmitting large quantities of audio data is power intensive,hampering long-term deployment in remote, off-grid locations of key ecological interest. Rather than transmitting heavy audio data, in this paper, we propose a low-cost and energy efficient wireless acoustic sensor network integrated with edge computing structure for remote acoustic monitoring and in situ *** and computation of acoustic indices are carried out directly on edge devices built from low noise primo condenser microphones and Teensy microcontrollers, using internal FFT hardware support. Resultant indices are transmitted over a ZigBee-based wireless mesh network to a destination *** tests of audio quality, indices computation and power consumption demonstrate acoustic equivalence and significant power savings over current solutions.

Role of strategy update rules in the spatial memory-based mixed strategy games

Based on a continuous mixed strategy game model considering the memory mechanism and the uncertainty of individual decision-making, we explore the influence of several different update rules on the spatial cooperation behavior. Here, we mainly investigate the role of the Moran-like process, Fermi rule and replicator dynamics in the evolution of cooperation. Meanwhile, we further compare the evolution of cooperation when the memory mechanism and individual uncertainty are taken into account. In particular, memory length M and strategy adjustment factor $$\delta $$ can promote the cooperation behavior in different ways. Extensive Monte Carlo simulations indicate that the Moran-like process can generally drive the expansion of cooperative clusters faster and finally achieve the highest frequency of cooperation although the Fermi update rule performs better under the same condition. Moreover, the replicator dynamics create the worst scenario as far as the evolution of cooperation is concerned. Therefore, the level of cooperation strongly depends on the strategy update rules; these findings may be helpful to understand and analyze the evolutionary process of cooperation in many real-world natural and social systems.

Impasse Surface of Differential-Algebraic Power System Models: An Interpretation Based on Admittance Matrices

The impasse surface is an important concept in the differential-algebraic equation (DAE) model of power systems, which is associated with short-term voltage collapse. This paper establishes a necessary condition for a system trajectory hitting the impasse surface. The condition is in terms of admittance matrices regarding the power network, generators and loads, which specifies the pattern of interaction between those system components that can induce voltage collapse. It applies to generic DAE models featuring high-order synchronous generators, static loads, induction motor loads and lossy power networks. We also identify a class of static load parameters that prevent power systems from hitting the impasse surface;this proves a conjecture made by Hiskens that has been unsolved for decades. Moreover, the obtained results lead to an early indicator of voltage collapse and a novel viewpoint that inductive compensation to the power network has a positive effect on preventing short-term voltage collapse, which are verified via numerical simulations. For nonlinear systems with backlash-like hysteresis characteristics and external disturbance, a composite two-channel disturbance estimation adaptive controller is proposed to improve the trajectory tracking accuracy of the system. The unmodeled hysteresis and external disturbances are treated as lumped uncertainties, which are approximated by radial basis neural network and disturbance estimator respectively. These approximations are then linearly fused to form the compensation term for the lumped uncertainty. The second order linear filter is employed to estimate multiple differential terms, which are integrated into the controller design and dynamic system state updates, thereby reducing computational complexity. A weighted fusion mechanism is implemented for the two channels, and the adaptive update rate for each channel is determined based on the deviation between the lumped uncertainty reference value and the output of each channel. To address the challenges posed by the discontinuity of deviation and maintain system stability, the first-order low-pass filter is applied to smooth the deviation, enhancing system robustness. A trajectory tracking simulation of a single-input single-output nonlinear system is conducted to compare the performance of the proposed controller with baseline controllers, demonstrating the effectiveness of the composite two-channel disturbance estimation adaptive controller. With the booming installed capacity of permanent magnet synchronous generator (PMSG) for wind energy generation, the grid becomes weaker and the oscillation events are frequently observed in weak-grid-tied large-scale grid-connected PMSG wind farms. Although the impedance-based method is effective to analyze the stability of grid-connected systems, the mathematical relationship between external impedance characteristics and the internal controllers has not been quantitatively analyzed in depth, which is beneficial to the controller design. This paper studies the influence of phase-locked loop (PLL) on the impedance characteristics based on the analytical sequence impedance model of PMSG with typical topology and control structure. The shaping effect of PLL on the impedance characteristics is described so as to clearly describe the relationship between the external impedance characteristics of the wind turbines and the internal controller. Finally, the stability analysis of the grid-connected PMSG wind turbine system is provided in Matlab and simulation results are given to verify the oscillating mechanism caused by PLL. © 2020 IEEE.

Distributed stochastic proximal algorithm with random reshuffling for non-smooth finite-sum optimization

The non-smooth finite-sum minimization is a fundamental problem in machine learning. This paper develops a distributed stochastic proximal-gradient algorithm with random reshuffling to solve the finite-sum minimization over time-varying multi-agent networks. The objective function is a sum of differentiable convex functions and non-smooth regularization. Each agent in the network updates local variables by local information exchange and cooperates to seek an optimal solution. We prove that local variable estimates generated by the proposed algorithm achieve consensus and are attracted to a neighborhood of the optimal solution with an (formula presented) convergence rate, where T is the total number of iterations. Finally, some comparative simulations are provided to verify the convergence performance of the proposed algorithm. © 2021, CC BY.

Aiming at the network delay problem that exists in the aeroengine distributed control,system stability of the original Hcontroller under different time delays is investigated,and an improved Smith predictive structure is proposed to reduce the influence of ***,according to the control requirements of aeroengine under some typical operating conditions,the appropriate parameters of performance index weighting function are selected to obtain corresponding H output feedback ***,Lyapunov function is constructed to analyze the stability of the original designed system under delays,and the allowable maximum delay that ensures the system stability is determined *** order to reduce the impact of delays and enhance the system robustness,an improved Smith compensator is designed to form a composite controller on the basis of HH ***,taking a turbofan engine control as an example,some numerical simulation cases considering varying-time delay and disturbance are conducted to verify the effectiveness and robustness of the proposed method.

Most conventional crowd counting methods utilize a fully-supervised learning framework to establish a mapping between scene images and crowd density maps. They usually rely on a large quantity of costly and time-intensive pixel-level annotations for training supervision. One way to mitigate the intensive labeling effort and improve counting accuracy is to leverage large amounts of unlabeled images. This is attributed to the inherent self-structural information and rank consistency within a single image, offering additional qualitative relation supervision during training. Contrary to earlier methods that utilized the rank relations at the original image level, we explore such rank-consistency relation within the latent feature spaces. This approach enables the incorporation of numerous pyramid partial orders, strengthening the model representation capability. A notable advantage is that it can also increase the utilization ratio of unlabeled samples. Specifically, we propose a Deep Rank-consistEnt pyrAmid Model (DREAM), which makes full use of rank consistency across coarse-to-fine pyramid features in latent spaces for enhanced crowd counting with massive unlabeled images. In addition, we have collected a new unlabeled crowd counting dataset, FUDAN-UCC, comprising 4,000 images for training purposes. Extensive experiments on four benchmark datasets, namely UCF-QNRF, ShanghaiTech PartA and PartB, and UCF-CC-50, show the effectiveness of our method compared with previous semi-supervised methods. Phasor measurement units (PMUs) are vital for power grid monitoring, yet their high cost restricts widespread adoption. PMU measurement data is also crucial for fault analysis in power systems. However, existing research seldom explores the interplay between optimal PMU placement (OPP) and fault analysis, impeding advancements in grid economy and security. This study introduces a perception-driven, deep learning-based optimization approach that integrates OPP, multi-task learning, and fault data augmentation. First, deep reinforcement learning optimizes PMU placement, balancing cost-effectiveness with observability requirements. Next, multi-task learning, enhanced by Bayesian optimization, improves fault classification efficiency using PMU data. Finally, pre-trained models paired with k -means clustering augment fault data, boosting classification accuracy. Extensive simulations across four IEEE standard test systems validate the proposed method’s effectiveness.
