Short-term wind power forecast with turning weather based on DBSCAN-RFE-LightGBM

At present, the wind power prediction technology is becoming more and more mature, however, the turning weather brings a decrease in prediction accuracy due to its suddenness and instability. In this paper, a wind power prediction method considering the turning period and non-turning period respectively is proposed to weaken the adverse effects caused by turning weather. Firstly, the prediction effects of multiple models are compared, density-based spatial clustering of applications with noise (DBSCAN) is selected as the outlier processing method, recursive feature elimination (RFE) is used as the feature selection method, and Light gradient boosting machine (LightGBM) is used for prediction. The combined prediction method based on DBSCAN-RFE-LightGBM can reduce the influence of abnormal data and redundant features and improve the prediction effect. Then, the sliding window is set to detect the turning period. Considering that the turning weather is an emergency and does not happen frequently, the amount of data is small, which leads to the inability to train the model well. Generative adversarial networks (GAN) are applied to expand the turning period data. The LightGBM is trained and predicted by using the expended turning period data. Finally, the time-division prediction results are merged. Using the data collected from wind farms for short-term power prediction experiments, the time-segment prediction method proposed in this paper with GAN reduces MAE by 1.913 and RMSE by 3.351 on a single unit compared with the non-differentiated period. © 2025 Elsevier Ltd

Permanent magnet synchronous motors(PMSM) are popular in AC motor applications due to their small size, high efficiency. They have appeared widely in various areas of life. Due to the high-frequency chattering problem caused by sliding mode observer sensorless control of PMSM, an SMO with piecewise control function is designed in this paper. At the same time, based on the back EMF output of the SMO, the gain of the SMO is adapted to reduce the system bucket vibration problem caused by the conventional SMO. Finally, a simulation experiment was carried out in MATLAB/SIMULINK and compared with the conventional SMO. The results show that the improved SMO has achieved a better control effect.

With network slicing technology, 5G changes the classical mobile network business model from a network-operator-oriented business to a more open system with multiple stakeholders. In this context, a network slice broker plays the role of agency between network resource providers and vertical service providers, to lease and provide on-demand network slice services. In practice, a single network slice broker normally owns limited types of network slices. And a collaboration infrastructure could be built up to enable network slice sharing among multiple network slice brokers, so as to improve user experience, and enhance the resource utilization rate. However, a major challenge with such an infrastructure is how to support fair and secure slice trading process among multiple un-trusted network slice providers. Blockchain technology, on the other side, brings in high opportunities to implement a fair and secure trading system without a trusted third-party. In view of this observation, this paper proposes a design of blockchain-enabled collaboration infrastructure for network slice brokers, where a group of registered brokers can trade their network slices in a fair and secure manner. To enhance the accountability of slice trading records, transactions are verified and sorted by each broker node, which are further packed into blocks and appended to a shared ledger maintained by each member in the collaboration network. More specifically, we design a Proof-of-Majority (PoM) consensus protocol to sort slice trading transactions before packing transaction blocks of the shared ledger. Furthermore, an optimization for the basic PoM protocol is discussed, with dependency resolving strategy to improve system performance. Experiments are conducted to verify the feasibility of our proposal. © 2020 ACM.

Passivity properties for regulation of DC networks with stochastic load demand

In this paper we present new (stochastic) passivity properties for Direct Current (DC) power networks, where the unknown and unpredictable load demand is modelled by a stochastic process. More precisely, the considered power network consists of distributed generation units supplying ZIP loads, i.e., nonlinear loads comprised of impedance (Z), current (I) and power (P) components. Differently from the majority of the results in the literature, where each of these components is assumed to be constant, we consider time-varying loads whose dynamics are described by a class of stochastic differential equations. Finally, we prove that an existing distributed control scheme achieving current sharing and (average) voltage regulation ensures the asymptotic stochastic stability of the controlled network. Output regulation for load frequency control

Motivated by the inadequacy of the existing control strategies for power systems affected by time-varying uncontrolled power injections such as loads and the increasingly widespread renewable energy sources, this paper proposes two control schemes based on the well-known output regulation control methodology. The first one is designed based on the classical output regulation theory and addresses the so-called Load Frequency control (LFC) problem in presence of time-varying uncontrolled power injections. Then, in order to also minimize the generation costs, we use an approximate output regulation method that solves numerically only the partial differential equation of the regulator equation and propose a controller based on this solution, minimizing an appropriate penalty function. An extensive case study shows excellent performance of the proposed control schemes in different and critical scenarios. Copyright © 2020, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Multi-agent maintenance scheduling based on the coordination between central operator and decentralized producers in an electricity market

Condition-based and predictive maintenance enable early detection of critical system conditions and thereby enable decision makers to forestall faults and mitigate them. However, decision makers also need to take the operational and production needs into consideration for optimal decision-making when scheduling maintenance activities. Particularly in network systems, such as power grids, decisions on the maintenance of single assets can affect the entire network and are, therefore, more complex. This paper proposes a two-level multi-agent decision support systems for the generation maintenance decision (GMS) of power grids in an electricity markets. The GMS plays an important role in increasing the reliability at the network level. The aim of the GMS is to minimize the generation cost while maximizing the system reliability. The proposed framework integrates a central coordination system, i.e. the transmission system operator (TSO), and distributed agents representing power generation units that act to maximize their profit and decide about the optimal maintenance time slots while ensuring the fulfilment of the energy demand. The objective function of agents (power generation companies) is based on the reward and the penalty that they obtain from the interplay between power production and loss of production due to failure, respectively. The optimal strategy of agents is then derived using a distributed algorithm, where agents choose their optimal maintenance decision and send their decisions to the central coordinating system. The TSO decides whether to accept the agents’ decisions by considering the market reliability aspects and power supply constraints. To solve this coordination problem, we propose a negotiation algorithm using an incentive signal to coordinate the agents’ and central system’s decisions such that all the agents’ decisions can be accepted by the central system. This paper explores the H state estimation problem for a category of discrete-time complex-valued memristive neural networks (CVMNNs). Regarding the studied CVMNNs, the phenomena of the distributed delay and time-varying delay are taken into account so as to describe the system more practically. Firstly, for further effective analysis, the examined CVMNNs are converted to an augmented system that integrates both the real and imaginary dynamics about the initial CVMNNs. To alleviate the communication burden, a representative dynamic event-triggered scheme is employed, for the first time, in the state estimator design of discrete-time CVMNNs. By establishing the Lyapunov functional, a sufficient condition is derived to assure the asymptotical stability of the estimation error system. Subsequently, the explicit expression of the desired estimator is obtained by resolving several matrix inequalities. Ultimately, the efficacy of the designed state estimator is substantiated through a simulation example.

IFA-EO: An improved firefly algorithm hybridized with extremal optimization for continuous unconstrained optimization problems

As one of the evolutionary algorithms, firefly algorithm (FA) has been widely used to solve various complex optimization problems. However, FA has significant drawbacks in slow convergence rate and is easily trapped into local optimum. To tackle these defects, this paper proposes an improved FA combined with extremal optimization (EO), named IFA-EO, where three strategies are incorporated. First, to balance the tradeoff between exploration ability and exploitation ability, we adopt a new attraction model for FA operation, which combines the full attraction model and the single attraction model through the probability choice strategy. In the single attraction model, small probability accepts the worse solution to improve the diversity of the offspring. Second, the adaptive step size is proposed based on the number of iterations to dynamically adjust the attention to the exploration model or exploitation model. Third, we combine an EO algorithm with powerful ability in local-search into FA. Experiments are tested on two group popular benchmarks including complex unimodal and multimodal functions. Our experimental results demonstrate that the proposed IFA-EO algorithm can deal with various complex optimization problems and has similar or better performance than the other eight FA variants, three EO-based algorithms, and one advanced differential evolution variant in terms of accuracy and statistical results. © 2021, CC BY.

Envisioned as one of the most promising technologies, holographic multiple-input multiple-output (H-MIMO) recently attracts notable research interests for its great potential in expanding wireless possibilities and achieving fundamental wireless limits. Empowered by the nearly continuous, large and energy-efficient surfaces with powerful electromagnetic (EM) wave control capabilities, H-MIMO opens up the opportunity for signal processing in a more fundamental EM-domain, paving the way for realizing holographic imaging level communications in supporting the extremely high spectral efficiency and energy efficiency in future networks. In this article, we propose a generalized EM-domain near-field channel modeling and study its capacity limit of point-to-point H-MIMO systems that equips arbitrarily placed surfaces in a line-of-sight (LoS) environment. Two effective and computational-efficient channel models are established from their integral counterpart, where one is with a sophisticated formula but showcases more accurate, and another is concise with a slight precision sacrifice. Furthermore, we unveil the capacity limit using our channel model, and derive a tight upper bound based upon an elaborately built analytical framework. Our result reveals that the capacity limit grows logarithmically with the product of transmit element area, receive element area, and the combined effects of 1/d2mn, 1/d4mn, and 1/d6mn over all transmit and receive antenna elements, where dmn indicates the distance between each transmit element n and receive element m. Particularly, 1/d6mn dominates in the near-field region whereas 1/d2mn dominates in the far-field region. Numerical evaluations validate the effectiveness of our channel models, and showcase the slight disparity between the upper bound and the exact capacity, which is beneficial for predicting practical system performance.
