QoE-Aware Offloading and Resource Allocation for MEC-Empowered AIGC Services

Artificial Intelligence-Generated Content (AIGC) has emerged as a transformative paradigm, enabling the autonomous creation of diverse content. By offloading model inference tasks to the network edge that is closer to mobile users (MUs), Mobile Edge Computing (MEC) has the potential to significantly enhance the performance of AIGC services. In practice, however, it is challenging to optimally manage MEC-empowered AIGC services, due to the lack of well-defined AIGC-specific metrics, as well as the dynamic workload and computation-intensive nature of AIGC services. In this paper, we first define a novel AIGC metric based on extensive real data experiments, and then study the joint task offloading and resource allocation problem in a generic MEC-empowered AIGC network, where MUs can offload model inference tasks to local or remote Base Stations (BSs), aiming at maximizing their Quality of Experience (QoE). The problem is challenging due to the fast and randomly changing of environments, as well as the necessity for real-time, asynchronous decision-making. To tackle these challenges, we propose two deep reinforcement learning algorithms based on the Proximal Policy Optimization (PPO) framework: Single-Layer PPO (SL-PPO) and Multi-Layer PPO (ML-PPO), designed for slow-changing and fast-changing environments, respectively. In the SL-PPO algorithm, both task offloading and resource allocation decisions are made simultaneously when tasks arrive. In the ML-PPO algorithm, the task offloading decision is made immediately when tasks arrive, while the resource allocation decision is deferred until tasks are scheduled for processing or transmission in the corresponding queues. Simulation results show that (i) both algorithms outperform existing methods in the literature, and can increase the average utility by up to 47% and 48.8%;(ii) both algorithms can effectively manage the trade-off between latency and energy consumption. © 2002-2012 IEEE.

With the application and development of related technologies based on user location information, location-based services have become essential for daily lives. Despite this fact, Wireless Local area networks (WLAN’s) often face time complexities in streamlining and collection of data. Thus, the given paper introduces a deep-learning model based on convolutional neural network (CNN) to predict user’s indoor location from the received wireless signal strength fingerprint maps. The aim is to enhance WLAN indoor localization by streamlining the data collection process. The proposed indoor positioning model leverages a region of interest (ROI) extraction technique to simulate the wireless received signal strength intensity in WLAN’s. By incorporating this advanced technique, the model aims to improve the accuracy and efficiency of WLAN localization. To optimize and evaluate the model’s performance in real-world scenarios, experiments are conducted using simulated datasets obtained from the publicly available database such as UCI repository. The results show that the proposed model attains the highest validation accuracy (97.11%) and training accuracy (97.34%) as compared to the existing deep learning algorithms used for indoor localization. © Bharati Vidyapeeth's Institute of computer Applications and Management 2024.

The ubiquitous time-delay estimation (TDE) problem becomes nontrivial when sensors are non-co-located and communication between them is limited. Building on the recently proposed "extremum encoding" compression-estimation scheme, we address the critical extension to complex-valued signals, suitable for radio-frequency (RF) baseband processing. This extension introduces new challenges, e.g., due to unknown phase of the signal of interest and random phase of the noise, rendering a naïve application of the original scheme inapplicable and irrelevant. In the face of these challenges, we propose a judiciously adapted, though natural, extension of the scheme, paving its way to RF applications. While our extension leads to a different statistical analysis, including extremes of non-Gaussian distributions, we show that, ultimately, its asymptotic behavior is akin to the original scheme. We derive an exponentially tight upper bound on its error probability, corroborate our results via simulation experiments, and demonstrate the superior performance compared to two benchmark approaches. © 2025 IEEE.

The performance of energy harvesting (EH)-enabled long-range (LoRa) networks is analyzed in this work. Specifically, we employ deep learning (DL) to estimate the coverage probability (Pcov) of the considered networks. Our study incorporates a general fading distribution, specifically the Nakagami-m distribution, and utilizes tools from stochastic geometry (SG) to model the spatial distributions of all nodes and end-devices (EDs) with EH capability. The DL approach is employed to overcome the limitations of model-based methods that can only evaluate the Pcov under simplified network conditions. Therefore, we propose a deep neural network (DNN) that estimates the Pcov with high accuracy compared to the ground truth values. Additionally, we demonstrate that DL significantly outperforms the Monte Carlo simulation approach in terms of resource consumption, including time and memory. © (2025), (European Alliance for Innovation). Capacitive pressure sensors have attracted considerable interest due to their high sensitivity, low energy consumption, and potential for miniaturization, making them suitable for applications in automotive systems, consumer electronics, and industrial automation. The conventional designs of capacitive pressure sensors often face challenges such as limited sensitivity, mechanical instability, and difficulties in achieving increased sensitivity. This study presents a biconvex diaphragm using Silicon, featuring a gradual thickness variation, with a maximum thickness at the center. The paper offers mathematical analysis of the sensor, featuring step-by-step derivations for parameters such as maximum thickness of the diaphragm, working range, capacitance and capacitive sensitivity. Finally, curves of capacitance and capacitive sensitivity with pressure are obtained in MATLAB, and the results are compared with those of prior works. The proposed sensor shows a more than threefold increase in capacitance and a nearly double improvement in capacitive sensitivity compared to the highest previously reported DTMCPS. The deflection of the diaphragm is obtained using COMSOL. © 2001-2012 IEEE.

Joint Service Caching and Resource Allocation Over Different Timescales in Satellite Edge Computing Networks

The integration of edge computing into satellite networks offers a promising solution for extending computational services to remote and underserved areas. To effectively provide a variety of computing services, it is essential to cache the corresponding services on satellites. However, challenges exist such as dynamic computing requests that vary over time and space, energy constraints due to restricted power supply, as well as limited storage capacity on satellites and the impracticality of frequently adjusting service deployments. To tackle such challenges, this paper proposes a two-timescale joint optimization framework to minimize energy consumption in satellite edge computing networks while ensuring the delay requirements, by jointly optimizing service placement and task offloading, as well as computation resource and power allocation. On a larger timescale, we optimize service caching placement by strategically deploying services on satellites and ground devices (GDs) based on long-term service request statistics, aiming to minimize the total average delay over each time frame. We develop an efficient iterative algorithm by employing penalty-based methods and Lagrange duality techniques to achieve suboptimal service deployment. On a smaller timescale, we optimize task offloading and resource allocation in shorter time slots, adapting to dynamic traffic fluctuations to minimize energy consumption while meeting delay constraints. We utilize alternating optimization and quadratic transform methods to efficiently allocate resources and schedule tasks. Extensive simulations demonstrate the effectiveness and superiority of our framework over benchmark schemes, revealing significant reductions in delay and energy consumption. The results also highlight the trade-offs between task delay and energy consumption, as well as between transmit power and energy consumption. © 2025 IEEE.

Colorectal intraepithelial neoplasia is a precancerous lesion of colorectal cancer, which is mainly diagnosed using pathological images. According to the characteristics of lesions, precancerous lesions can be classified into four different grades, i.e., background, normal, low and high level. However, due to the continuity of lesion development, tissue in different stages has high similarity. Recently, visual transformers have achieved impressive results in different visual tasks, due to their capacity of capturing long-range dependencies. However, due to computational cost, transformer cannot well extract detailed feature, which is important for lesion grading. To accurately segment pathological tissues with high similarity, in this work, we embed the multi-head MLP mixer module in the transformer network to extract cell and edge information. Furthermore, we propose a hierarchical MLP decoder to facilitate multi-scale feature fusion. The proposed transformer, namely MLPFormer, achieves remarkable results against competitive baselines on the Histo-CRC Biopsy dataset. The experimental results demonstrate that MLPFormer significantly outperforms the competitive baselines, i.e., a 3% dice improvement is achieved over the SegFormer series. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer-Verlag London Ltd., part of Springer Nature 2024.

With the increasing water shortage and climatic uncertainty, creative strategies for effective water management in agriculture are necessary. This research investigates the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI), particularly Artificial Neural Networks (ANN), with solar-powered Internet of Things (IoT) networks to enhance water utilization in agricultural activities. The proposed system facilitates accurate irrigation scheduling using real-time data from soil moisture sensors, meteorological stations, and crop health monitoring devices. The ANN model analyses this data to predict ideal irrigation schedules and volumes, minimizing water waste while improving crop yields. The solar-powered IoT framework provides sustainability and reduces dependence on traditional energy sources. Field trials indicate that the AI-enhanced system may promote water saving by as much as 30% relative to traditional irrigation techniques. Moreover, using AI enables adaptive learning, enabling the system to enhance its irrigation tactics using historical and real-time data. This novel method conserves water resources and fosters sustainable agriculture practices, coinciding with global initiatives to address water shortages and assure food security. The findings underscore the potential of technology-based solutions to revolutionize agricultural water management for a sustainable future. © 2025 IEEE.

Parkinson's Disease (PD) is a progressive neurodegenerative disorder that significantly impacts motor function. Early detection is critical for effective intervention, yet traditional diagnostic methods often face limitations in accuracy and timeliness. This paper proposes a hybrid deep learning model combining EfficientNet, BiLSTM, and GANs to improve PD detection accuracy using medical images and sequential data. EfficientNet is employed for extracting features from MRI scans, while BiLSTM is used to analyze temporal data, such as gait and speech patterns, to capture the progressive changes associated with PD. Additionally, GANs are utilized to augment the dataset, addressing the challenges of data scarcity and imbalance. The fusion of spatial and temporal features enables a more comprehensive understanding of PD, improving diagnostic performance. Bayesian optimization is applied for hyperparameter tuning, and K-fold cross-validation ensures robust model evaluation. The results demonstrate that the hybrid model outperforms single-modal approaches in both classification and regression tasks, offering enhanced accuracy in detecting PD and predicting disease severity. Furthermore, interpretability techniques like Grad-CAM and attention mechanisms are incorporated to provide insights into the model's decision-making process. This work presents a promising approach for automating PD diagnosis and lays the groundwork for further research in multi-modal deep learning for disease detection. © 2025 IEEE.

After adopting 5G technology, businesses and academia have started working on sixth-generation wireless networking (6G) technologies. Mobile communications options are expected to expand in areas where previous generations could not do so. 6G networks are anticipated to be constructed using various diverse technologies. These encompass diverse cutting-edge advancements, such as distributed ledger systems like blockchain, visible light communications (VLC), post-quantum cryptography, edge computing, molecular communication, THz, and other advances. These advances necessitate a reassessment of previous security strategies from a security perspective. In the future, networks must adhere to stricter criteria for authentication, encryption, access control, connectivity, and detection of harmful activities. Ensuring privacy and dependability necessitates the implementation of supplementary security protocols. The essay explores the primary concerns and challenges related to the security of the 6G network. This paper describes the improvements in security in communications from 1G through 6G. This paper divides security in the sixth generation into three layers: physical, connection, and service. Each layer-by-layer discusses the standard technologies and security issues for each technology proposed in each sixth-generation security layer. All proposed solutions for each of the three layers are discussed in Sixth Generation Security. It also reviews all proposed solutions for each layer, indicating the proposed solution and its limitations. © The Author(s) 2025.
