The ever-increasing demand for higher and higher 5G wireless communication system performance has a direct impact on the design of highly efficient RF blocks, in which mixers play a key role. In fact, with the exponentially grow of data traffic and the need for high data-rate and low latency, mixers should maintain a high performance while working in challenging conditions. The main requirements for mixers to work properly in 5G wireless networks are related to their conversion gain, noise figure, and linearity. These are indeed the key design elements to consider but the technology to be used as well as the mixer compactness and integration into mobile devices must be carefully evaluated. In this paper, recent CMOS Gilbert-Cell mixer designs for 5G applications are discussed, while highlighting the techniques used to improve their electrical parameters. Some limitations are mentioned as well. © 2024 IEEE.

Current research in human–computer interaction reveals the importance of taking into account emotional aspects in the interaction with computer systems. The main objective of promoting this emotional recognition is to contribute to the enhanced coherence, consistency and credibility of the computer reactions and responses during human interaction through the human–computer interface. In that context, computer systems can be explored that can identify and classify the user’s emotional condition. In this study, computer techniques are used to identify and classify emotional aspects based on the users’ discourse, aiming to assess the emotional behavior in the daily reality of critical care professionals. Hence, in the study of computer techniques and psychological theories, both areas can be related to classify emotion through a framework for the acquisition and classification of users’ discourse. The system developed was applied as an additional evaluation method in the development of simulated scenarios in the context of Clinical Simulation and demonstrated its efficiency as a new approach in health assessment. © 2019, Springer-Verlag GmbH Germany, part of Springer Nature.

Blockchain is a decentralized distributed ledger, through a unique chain block structure to verify and store data, so as to ensure the privacy and security of all kinds of information, but the blockchain personal identity authentication link is not complete, relying only on the key can operate personal accounts there are serious security problems. Therefore, a signature scheme is proposed, which takes face biometric as input, uses convolutional neural network (CNN) facenet to encode the face feature information, and then uses homomorphic encryption scheme to encrypt the face encoding and compare it with the face template in the database. At the same time, in order to ensure the authenticity and security of opeation, the user’s rPPG signal are detected in real time during the authentication in considred successfully. Finally, using the information mixing algorithm, biometric and RSA key are fused to form a combined key for signature. The experiment shows that, under the condition of obtaining biometric information, the user’s identity is verified correctly, and the contract is signed correctly within 2 s. In the whole scheme, the template creation time is 5.62 s, the encryption time of the input biometric information is 0.52 s, the heart rate detection time (including the camera time) is 5.59 s, and the user can be fully identified within four times, with an accuracy of 98%. The scheme improves the security of the blockchain transaction and signing process. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2024.

Nowadays cryptography is increasingly more important, not only to keep communications safe but also to authenticate users and devices alike. A few years ago, most of the algorithms and cryptographic systems available to the public were implemented in software. However currently one of the best ways to tackle this problem is using specific hardware to produce a random output. In this paper we present an investigation to different True Random Number Generator (TRNG) architectures, implemented in a Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA), based on ring oscillators and the results of a specific set of tests developed to verify the resilience and randomness characteristics of random number generators, NIST SP800-22R. Our objective is to create a dynamic entropy generator based on standard Ring Oscillators using the lowest number of resources possible. The tests ran using a 10 Mbytes sample stored in a .txt file received from the FPGA with the size of 1 kbytes and 7000 bitstreams (number of times the 1 kbytes will be tested). The best performing configuration only uses 160 gates. But it is possible to reduce by almost a third the number of gates and still get on the 5th best performing configuration with a higher efficiency.

Recent advances in object detection have been driven by the success of deep convolutional neural networks (DCNNs). Deploying a DCNN detector on resource-limited hardware such as embedded devices and smart phones, however, remains challenging due to the massive number of parameters a typical model contains. In this paper, we propose an amplitude suppression and direction activation for Faster R-CNN (ASDA-FRCNN) framework to significantly compress DCNNs for highly efficient performance. The shared amplitude between the full-precision and the binary kernels can be significantly suppressed through a simple but effective loss, which is then incorporated into the existing Faster R-CNN detector. Furthermore, the ASDA module is generic and flexible to be incorporated into existing DCNNs for different tasks. Experiments demonstrate the superiority of 1-bit ASDA-FRCNN which achieves superior performance on various datasets. Specifically, ASDA-FRCNN shows the best speed-accuracy trade off with 63.4% at estimated 711 FPS and 19.4% mAP at and estimated 362 FPS with ResNet-18 on the PASCAL VOC 2007 and MS COCO validation datasets respectively, which demonstrate the superior performance and strong generalization of our method. © 2020 Owner/Author.

Achieving global optimality for joint source and relay beamforming design in two-hop relay channels

This paper deals with joint source and relay beamforming (BF) design for an amplify-and-forward (AF) multiantenna multirelay network. Considering that the channel state information (CSI) from relays to destination is imperfect, we aim to maximize the worst case received signal-to-noise ratio (SNR). The associated optimization problem is then solved in two steps. In the first step, by fixing the source BF vector, a semi-closed form solution of the relay BF matrices is obtained, up to a power allocation factor. In the second step, the global optimal source BF vector is obtained based on the Polyblock outer Approximation (PA) algorithm. We also propose two low-complexity methods for obtaining the source BF vector, which are different in their complexities and performances. The optimal joint sourcerelay BF solution obtained by the proposed algorithms serves as the benchmark for evaluating the existing schemes and the proposed low-complexity methods. Simulation results show that the proposed robust design can significantly reduce the sensitivity of the channel uncertainty to the system performance. Copyright © 2020, The Authors. The aim of this paper is to introduce a semantic methodology using ontology in order to improve results of data mining in judicial decisions database. An intelligent and automatic method to search for sentences in lawsuits related to the one in trial is presented. A judicial ontology is built with and without rules from experts. The method can provide judiciary celerity, seeking to solve the yearning of society, as it can be able to simulate the judicial advisers work on judicial decisions preparation. © 2017 IEEE.

In this paper, based on the Hamiltonian, an alternative interpretation about the iterative adaptive dynamic programming (ADP) approach from the perspective of optimization is developed for discrete time nonlinear dynamic systems. The role of the Hamiltonian in iterative ADP is explained. The resulting Hamiltonian driven ADP is able to evaluate the performance with respect to arbitrary admissible policies, compare two different admissible policies and further improve the given admissible policy. The convergence of the Hamiltonian ADP to the optimal policy is proven. Implementation of the Hamiltonian-driven ADP by neural networks is discussed based on the assumption that each iterative policy and value function can be updated exactly. Finally, a simulation is conducted to verify the effectiveness of the presented Hamiltonian-driven ADP.

Most electric power companies employs power meter reader to collect data on the customer's energy consumption. Usually, this task is carried out manually, which can lead to high cost and errors, causing financial losses. Some approaches trying to minimize these problems, such as: discover the minimal route or use a car to perform the readings. However, errors associated the manual readings can still occurs and cars suffer with congestions and a high costs of the fuel consumption and to maintaining. In this work, we go further and propose an architecture to Automatic Meter Reading (AMR) system using Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV). The main challenge of the solution is design a robust and lightweight protocol that is able to deal with the wireless communication collisions. Therefore, the main contribution of this work is the design a new protocol to ensure wireless communication from UAV to the power meters. We validated and evaluated the architecture in an urban scenario and the results show a decrease of time and distance respectively when compared to car approach. Our collision mechanism reaches an improved of 98% in reducing the messages collisions.
