To improve the efficiency of the state tomography strategy via weak value, we have searched the optimal coupling strength between the system and measuring device. For an arbitrary d-dimensional quantum system, the optimal strengths being used in measuring the real and imaginary parts of the density matrix are obtained. The optimal efficiency of the state tomography has also been studied by using mean square error. The minimal mean square errors in the reconstructed density matrices have been derived. The state tomography strategy studied in this article may be useful in the measurement of the unknown quantum states. Copyright © 2024, The Authors. All rights reserved.

This paper mainly studies the problem of finite-time switching synchronization for four real chaotic systems with combination mode. Firstly, we analyze multi-switching synchronization behavior in signal switching transmission, and the definition of finite-time combination synchronization is given by choosing the preset switching rules. And then, a novel finite time controller is designed to realize fast synchronization, and the sufficient conditions are given. Finally, numerical examples verify the effectiveness of the proposed control scheme.

Strain energy density as a Gaussian process and its utilization in stochastic finite element analysis: application to planar soft tissues

Data-based approaches are promising alternatives to the traditional analytical constitutive models for solid mechanics. Herein, we propose a Gaussian process (GP) based constitutive modeling framework, specifically focusing on planar, hyperelastic and incompressible soft tissues. The strain energy density of soft tissues is modeled as a GP, which can be regressed to experimental stress-strain data obtained from biaxial experiments. Moreover, the GP model can be weakly constrained to be convex. A key advantage of a GP-based model is that, in addition to the mean value, it provides a probability density (i.e. associated uncertainty) for the strain energy density. To simulate the effect of this uncertainty, a non-intrusive stochastic finite element analysis (SFEA) framework is proposed. The proposed framework is verified against an artificial dataset based on the Gasser–Ogden–Holzapfel model and applied to a real experimental dataset of a porcine aortic valve leaflet tissue. Results show that the proposed framework can be trained with limited experimental data and fits the data better than several existing models. The SFEA framework provides a straightforward way of using the experimental data and quantifying the resulting uncertainty in simulation-based predictions. © 2022, CC BY.

Optimal Hydraulic Pto and Linear Permanent Magnet Generator for a Floating Two-Buoy Wave Energy Converter

A fully coupled fluid-structure-power take-off model is used to investigate the optimal energy capture of a floating two-buoy wave energy converter excited by regular waves and irregular waves. The system incorporates hydraulic power take-off and a linear permanent magnet generator. By considering the coupling relationship between the power take-off parameters for regular waves, a power take-off parameter interval is determined for the optimization model. Parametric optimization of the hydraulic power take-off and linear permanent magnet generator systems is proposed, based on response surface methodology in conjunction with central combination design for sensitivity analysis and optimal configuration of different parameters. The methodology efficiently predicts optimal electric efficiency while reducing the requirement for multiple boundary element simulations. It is found that a model with predicted optimal configuration of the hydraulic power take-off system can achieve 10% more electrical efficiency than that with linear permanent magnet generator. Comparison between the energy capacities of the different systems indicates that a device with linear permanent magnet generator attains higher energy conversion efficiency within a wider power take-off bandwidth. This study provides guidance for the design and selection of efficient power take-off systems for floating two-buoy wave energy converters. © 2024, The Authors. All rights reserved.

The article aims to provide a novel strategy that integrates cutting-edge Internet of Things technology to alter the way catastrophe management is handled in railway networks. The system being suggested uses a complex network of sensors and data analytics to identify, monitor, and react to a wide variety of incidents, natural catastrophes, and security concerns. Using real-time data from sensors like weather stations, seismic detectors, CCTV cameras, and drones, the system processes and analyzes this information using machine learning algorithms to find deviations from typical operating conditions. These sensors include weather stations, seismic detectors, CCTV cameras, and drones. The system immediately creates quick warnings and automates reaction mechanisms upon identifying possible catastrophes or dangers, increasing safety and decreasing the number of disturbances. In addition, the human-centered design gives railway authorities and first responders the ability to make educated judgments during times of emergency. In challenging environments, the system's robustness may be ensured by methods of ongoing improvement and redundancy, as well as resilience. This next-generation disaster resilience system powered by the Internet of Things is set to improve railway safety and resilience in the face of growing threats.

The field of Automatic Facial Expression Analysis has grown rapidly in recent years. However, despite progress in new approaches as well as benchmarking efforts, most evaluations still focus on either posed expressions, near-frontal recordings, or both. This makes it hard to tell how existing expression recognition approaches perform under conditions where faces appear in a wide range of poses (or camera views), displaying ecologically valid expressions. The main obstacle for assessing this is the availability of suitable data, and the challenge proposed here addresses this limitation. The FG 2017 Facial Expression Recognition and Analysis challenge (FERA 2017) extends FERA 2015 to the estimation of Action Units occurrence and intensity under different camera views. In this paper we present the third challenge in automatic recognition of facial expressions, to be held in conjunction with the 12th IEEE conference on Face and Gesture Recognition, May 2017, in Washington, United States. Two sub-challenges are defined: the detection of AU occurrence, and the estimation of AU intensity. In this work we outline the evaluation protocol, the data used, and the results of a baseline method for both sub-challenges.

Radiation therapy (RT) aims to deliver tumoricidal doses with minimal radiation-induced normal-tissue toxicity. Compared to conventional RT (of conventional dose rate), FLASH-RT (of ultra-high dose rate) can provide additional normal tissue sparing, which however has created a new nonconvex and nonsmooth optimization problem that is highly challenging to solve. In this paper, we propose a stochastic three-operator splitting (STOS) algorithm to address the FLASH optimization problem. We establish the convergence and convergence rates of the STOS algorithm under the nonconvex framework for both unbiased gradient estimators and variance-reduced gradient estimators. These stochastic gradient estimators include the most popular ones, such as SGD, SAGA, SARAH, and SVRG, among others. The effectiveness of the STOS algorithm is validated using FLASH radiotherapy planning for patients. Copyright © 2023, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Vehicular ad hoc network (VANET) is one of the fastest developing technologies in intelligent transportation systems (ITS), which has made great contributions to improving traffic congestion and reducing traffic accidents. As it is deployed in an open environment, security and privacy are threatened to a certain extent. Moreover, there are huge data exchanges in high traffic areas, which require VANET system to improve computing efficiency while ensuring communication security. To solve the above issues, this paper proposes a cloud-assisted road condition monitoring (RCM) system. The trusted authority (TA) monitors the road conditions with the help of the cloud server. The vehicle collects the road condition information of the road section managed by the roadside unit (RU), and only the vehicles authorized by the administrative roadside unit can successfully upload the road condition reports to the cloud server. The cloud server divides the road condition reports into different equivalence classes, in this way to report the emergency to the TA when the reported quantity exceeds the threshold. Security analysis showed that the proposed RCM system can effectively protect the security and privacy of road condition reports in VANETs.

The switchable electric polarization is usually achieved in ferroelectric materials with noncentrosymmetric structures, which opens exciting opportunities for information storage and neuromorphic computing. In another polar system of p−n junction, there exists the electric polarization at the interface due to the Fermi level misalignment. However, the resultant built-in electric field is unavailable to manipulate, thus attracting less attention for memory devices. Here, we report the interfacial polarization hysteresis (IPH) in the vertical sidewall van der Waals heterojunctions of black phosphorus and quasi-two-dimensional electron gas on SrTiO3. A nonvolatile switching of electric polarization can be achieved by reconstructing the space charge region (SCR) with long-lifetime nonequilibrium carriers. The resulting electric-field controllable IPH is experimentally verified by electric hysteresis, polarization oscillation, and pyroelectric effect. Further studies confirm the transition temperature of 340 K, beyond which the IPH vanishes. The second transition is revealed with the temperature dropping below 230 K, corresponding to the sharp improvement of IPH and the freezing of SCR reconstruction. This work offers new possibilities for exploring the memory phenomena in nonferroelectric p−n heterojunctions.
