A vast array of mathematical models have been proposed for all stages of cancer formation across a wide range of spatio-temporal scales. Attention is now turning to coupling these models across scales and building models of "virtual tumours" for use in in silico testing of novel drugs and treatment regimes. This leads naturally to the requirement for detailed knowledge of the underlying geometry and physiological properties of individual tumours for use in: (i) multi-scale mathematical models of in vivo tumour growth and development;(ii) fusion of multi-scale, multimodal medical imaging techniques to improve the diagnosis and treatment of individual patients;and (iii) training of cancer specialists and surgeons.

We developed a 3D data transmitting and displaying system with an omni-directional display for group learning. The omni-directional display system enables many users to watch 3D images from each viewpoint without wearing special devices. Therefore, we consider that the omni-directional display is an effective 3D displaying method in the environment of group learning. In our system, we reconstruct 3D shapes of objects from images which are captured by multi-viewpoint cameras. Next, we transmit reconstructed data to remote places and display on the omni-directional display. We realize a series of these process in real-time. Moreover, we implemented a PDA-based control user interface for the omni-directional display system, and realized the control freely from any positions around the display.

In software/content development in intercultural environments, collaboration among participants and effective administration are crucial for overall successful projects. Various tools are used to achieve the collaboration and the administration of the project: no single groupware is sufficient for both collaboration support and management. Therefore, interoperability among various tools employed in one project is essential for efficient collaboration. To establish semantic interoperability of collaboration tools, we have designed an RDF tag set that can function as vocabulary to describe information interoperably among the tools. In this paper, we propose a tag set to describe information in intercultural projects and show how the data in collaboration tools and project management tools are integrated with those semantic tags. With the tag set and the supporting method, it is expected that the members and the administrators do not have to pay much efforts to keep the collaboration status.

As microarchitectural and system complexity grows, comprehending system behavior becomes increasingly difficult, and often requires obtaining and sifting through voluminous event traces or coordinating results from multiple, non-localized sources. Owl is a proposed framework that overcomes limitations faced by traditional performance counters and monitoring facilities in dealing with such complexity by pervasively deploying programmable monitoring elements throughout a system. The design exploits reconfigurable or programmable logic to realize hardware monitors located at event sources, such as memory buses. These monitors run and writeback results autonomously with respect to the CPU, mitigating the system impact of interrupt-driven monitoring or the need to communicate irrelevant events to higher levels of the system. The monitors are designed to snoop any kind of system transaction, e.g., within the core, on a bus, across the wire, or within I/O devices. Copyright 2005 ACM.

In this paper we propose a learning method of fuzzy if-then rules for pattern classification prob- lems. We assume that each training pattern has a weight that describes its importance. The an- tecedent part of fuzzy if-then rules are specified by partitioning each attributes into fuzzy sets while the consequent class and the degree of certainty of the fuzzy if-then rules are determined from the compatibility and weights of training patterns. The proposed learning method adjusts the de- gree of certainty so that the classification cost is minimized. Experimental results on several UCI data sets show the effectiveness of the proposed method.

In this paper, we propose an iterative algorithm for multiple regression with fuzzy independent and dependent variables. While using the standard least squares criterion as a performance index we pose the regression problem as a gradient descent optimisation. Since the differentiation and summation are interchangeable we can calculate the gradient as a sum of separate components thus avoiding undue complication of analytical formulas for multiple regression. We discuss the computational complexity of the proposed algorithm.
