Automatic location of surface-monitored microseismicity with deep learning

Accurate and rapid determination of source locations is of great significance for surface microseismic monitoring. Traditional methods, such as diffraction stacking, are time-consuming and challenging for real-time monitoring. In this study, we propose an approach to locate microseismic events using a deep learning algorithm with surface data. A fully convolutional network is designed to predict source locations. The input data is the waveform of a microseismic event, and the output consists of three 1D Gaussian distributions representing the probability distribution of the source location in the x, y, and z dimensions. The theoretical dataset is generated to train the model, and several data augmentation methods are applied to reduce discrepancies between the theoretical and field data. After applying the trained model to field data, the results demonstrate that our method is fast and achieves comparable location accuracy to the traditional diffraction stacking location method, making it promising for real-time microseismic monitoring. © 2024 China Earthquake Networks Center.

Accurate liver tumor segmentation is crucial for aiding radiologists in hepatocellular carcinoma evaluation and surgical planning. While convolutional neural networks (CNNs) have been successful in medical image segmentation, they face challenges in capturing long-term dependencies among pixels. On the other hand, Transformer-based models demand a high number of parameters and involve significant computational costs. To address these issues, we propose the Spatial and Spectral-learning Double-branched Aggregation Network (S2DA-Net) for liver tumor segmentation. S2DA-Net consists of a double-branched encoder and a decoder with a Group Multi-Head Cross-Attention Aggregation (GMCA) module, Two branches in the encoder consist of a Fourier Spectral-learning Multi-scale Fusion (FSMF) branch and a Multi-axis Aggregation Hadamard Attention (MAHA) branch. The FSMF branch employs a Fourier-based network to learn amplitude and phase information, capturing richer features and detailed information without introducing an excessive number of parameters. The FSMF branch utilizes a Fourier-based network to capture amplitude and phase information, enriching features without introducing excessive parameters. The MAHA branch incorporates spatial information, enhancing discriminative features while minimizing computational costs. In the decoding path, a GMCA module extracts local information and establishes long-term dependencies, improving localization capabilities by amalgamating features from diverse branches. Experimental results on the public LiTS2017 liver tumor datasets show that the proposed segmentation model achieves significant improvements compared to the state-of-the-art methods, obtaining dice per case (DPC) 69.4 % and global dice (DG) 80.0 % for liver tumor segmentation on the LiTS2017 dataset. Meanwhile, the pre-trained model based on the LiTS2017 datasets obtain, DPC 73.4 % and an DG 82.2 % on the 3DIRCADb dataset. © 2024

Based on the coupling control between the tectonic evolution and sedimentary characteristics, the tectonic evolution and sedimentary characteristics of Cenozoic rift basins in western southeast Asia are investigated by the contrast between basins. First, with the example of Malay basin, the tectonic evolution rule of each basin is compared, the result shows that although there are some differences existed, but more common points showed among the tectonic evolution rule of each basin, they can all divided into three stages, rift period, depression period and compressional inversion period, and the only difference is the corresponding time of each stage. With the further use of core and log data, the sedimentary characteristics of Malay basin has been interpreted, the results suggest that the main sedimentary facies in the Cenozoic Malay basin are alluvial-alluvial fan facies, delta facies and coastal facies. In the Oligocene epoch, the main facies in Malay basin is alluvial-alluvial fan deposit and braided stream-delta deposit;in the early Miocene epoch, the main facies in Malay basin is braided stream-shallow water delta facies;after the middle Miocene epoch, the main facies in Malay basin is coastal facies, coastal plain facies and shallow sea facies. At last, with the comparison of the sedimentary characteristics of each basin, a conclusion is settled that the distribution of sedimentary facies of each basin is controlled by the tectonic evolution, there are some obvious differences in the distribution of sedimentary facies of each tectonic evolution stage. In the rift period, the distribution of sedimentary facies is mainly alluvial-alluvial fan facies and alluvial-braided stream-delta facies accompanied with the fault and half graben;in the depression period, the sedimentary characteristics is following the typical sedimentation model of braided stream-shallow water delta of depression basin. © 2021, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Sing

The classification of single channel sand bodies within composite subaqueous distributary channels of a non-dense well area/zone is one of difficulties in geological research for oilfield development. In this study, the distribution of single channel sand bodies within composite subaqueous channels of the third member of the Qingshankou Formation in the Qian’an oilfield was analyzed by combining well-logging and seismic data-based forward simulation method. First, within the log curve in the high-dense well zone, four log-geology identification marks of single subaqueous distributary channel in Compound channel are established. Then, using the special seismic response characteristics of single channel composite positions, four forward simulation models of single channel combinations were developed. Finally, on the basis of the aforementioned forward simulation models, single subaqueous distributary channel sand bodies were identified within sparse well zones. © 2021, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

With rapid urban population growth and urban-ization, along with increasing demand for developing the low- altitude economy, urban air mobility (UAM) is seen as a way to alleviate ground traffic congestion and promote the low-altitude economy. Due to frequent data computation, low latency require-ments, and limited energy, effective computation offloading and resource management are urgently needed. This paper assumes UAM aircraft transmit semantic information and proposes a computation offloading and resource allocation strategy based on edge computing (EC). In case of edge server failure, relay UAV s assist in information transmission, enabling UAM aircraft to offload tasks to other edge servers. We formulated an op-timization problem to minimize delay and energy consumption and designed the Federated- Td3algorithm, combining federated learning (FL) and twin delayed deep deterministic policy gradient (TD3). Compared to two baseline algorithms, our algorithm reduced delay by 9.9% and 3.3%, and energy consumption by 14.1 % and 4.5%.

A time-domain electromagnetic (TEM) survey was carried out in Wainui Valley, Banks Peninsula, New Zealand, to differentiate conductive silts and weathered bedrock from resistive water-bearing gravels that may be present in sufficient quantities to be a potential groundwater resource, which the interpretation of a previous resistivity survey suggested may be present. However, a number of models are equally valid - the problem of equivalence. The model parameters are interdependent, not independently determined. The results of the TEM survey were subjected to analyses of equivalence and sensitivity, and do not indicate the presence of a gravel layer. The results are instead consistent with loess and silts overlying conductive, weathered and altered volcanic bedrock. At depth, the bedrock is relatively unweathered, but may be fractured. A conductive zone is present at depths of the order of 100 m, suggestive of saline pore water in the fractured volcanic rock. If gravels are present, then they are too thin to be resolved, and may not be laterally extensive. As a result, other options for the development of the local water resources will be pursued. © 2018 SEG.
