Association link network (ALN) is used to establish associated relations among various resources, aiming at extending the hyperlink network World Wide Web to an association-rich network, for effectively supporting Web intelligence activities. Unfortunately, with the increase number of Web resources, the challenge of incremental building of ALN is on how to perform the association weight of the new coming Web resources efficiently and exactly. A naive way is to compare every pair of data in the existing ALN, thus bearing a O(n 2 ) time complexity. Given the scale of the Web, it is unrealistic to compute the association weight between the new coming Web data and each data in the existing ALN, respectively. In this paper, a new method based on All-Pairs algorithm for incremental building of ALN is proposed. The experiments and evaluations show that our incremental building method performs a high accuracy. Moreover, the scale-independent property of our method make it more appropriate to be used on the Web.

Resource Space Model (RSM) is a normalized classification model that uses m-dimensional semantic spaces to share and manage various resources in a centralized manner. This paper explores how to use the idea of classification semantics to organize indexes of resources in a decentralized manner. We deploy RSM on a structured P2P topology HRing by two ID management methods. HRing is a ring-structured P2P topology that can achieve logarithmic routing table size and routing hops. Theoretical analysis and simulations show that both methods can still maintain logarithmic performance and cost. Thus, the decentralized RSM on HRing can be applied on dynamic and large-scale resource-sharing systems.

Clouding computing is considered as one of the most promising computing paradigms. Most already existing systems, which provide cloud computing, only pay attention to aggregating resources with the same computing capability and provide user with local optimized and discontinuous results. To satisfy users' complex requirements it's necessary to orchestrate resources with different functions together and produce the personalized resource flow to users. In this paper, we offer an approach for the issues. We build a semantic layer for cloud computing to connect resources from different domains. Our approach relies on the semantic representation and relationship of resources. The Similarity Link Network (SLN) and Association Link Network (ALN) based on the similarity and association relation respectively, form SLN-cloud and ALN-cloud which makes the clouds with rich abilities possible. Accurate and continuous results can be provided to users depending on the global view of resources.

The last few years have seen considerable interest in the wireless networking research community in analyzing the connectivity of wireless ad-hoc networks formed by a set of nodes distributed in a two dimensional plane (deployment area) with a (i) uniform probability density function and (ii) uniform transmission range. Although several important and interesting results are known in this domain, most of the connectivity studies consider a fault-free scenario where all nodes are available for network formation and do not consider failures among nodes caused by one reason or another. In very few studies where faults are considered, they are usually considered to be random in nature, i.e., the probability of a node failing is independent of its location in the deployment area. However, such fault scenario is inadequate to capture many realistic situations where the faulty nodes are spatially correlated. This is particularly true in combat environment where an enemy bomb can destroy a subset of nodes confined to a region. In this paper we investigate the impact of region-based faults on the connectivity of wireless networks. Through analysis and simulation, we provide results relating the probability of a network being connected as transmission range and the size of fault-region are varied. If d min (G) denotes the minimum node degree of the network, we provide the analytical expression for P(d min (G) ¿ k), which represents the probability of the minimum node degree being at least k, for k = 1. Moreover, we compute P(¿(G) ¿ k), where ¿(G) represents the connectivity of the graph G formed by the distribution of nodes in the deployment area and examine the relationship between P(d min (G) ¿ k) and P(¿(G) ¿ k) when k = 1.

Many forms of communication have evolved in the animal kingdom for different purposes. In this paper we investigate the limits of communication for simple reactive organisms and show that communication has only limited benefits in biologically inspired foraging tasks and can even have detrimental effects in certain environments. Based on these results, we argue that simple agents with simple architectures need very special environmental conditions for communication to benefit them and thus to evolve. © 2007 ***.

The Generation Challenge programme (GCP) is a global crop research consortium directed toward crop improvement through the application of comparative biology and genetic resources characterization to plant breeding. A key consortium research activity is the development of a GCP crop bioinformatics platform to support GCP research. This platform includes the following: (i) shared, public platform-independent domain models, ontology, and data formats to enable interoperability of data and analysis flows within the platform;(ii) web service and registry technologies to identify, share, and integrate information across diverse, globally dispersed data sources, as well as to access high-performance computational (HPC) facilities for computationally intensive, high-throughput analyses of project data;(iii) platform-specific middleware reference implementations of the domain model integrating a suite of public (largely open-access/-source) databases and software tools into a workbench to facilitate biodiversity analysis, comparative analysis of crop genomic data, and plant breeding decision making.

More frequent risk taking among young men than women has been explained as a sexually selected trait, perhaps advertising male quality. We investigated this hypothesis in three studies. (1) Young men and women rated how attractive they would find it if a potential partner took various specific risks. A domain-specific risk inventory allowed us to distinguish whether risk taking is attractive generally or only in certain domains. Both sexes reported social and recreational risk taking as attractive (the latter not always significantly so), but other domains of risk taking as unattractive (ethics, gambling, and health) or neutral (investment). The sexes differed markedly little. Parallel studies in Germany and the United States yielded very similar results. (2) We asked subjects to predict how attractive the other sex would find it if the subject performed each risky behavior. Both sexes were rather accurate (which could be merely because they assume that the other sex feels as they do) and sex differences in attractive risk taking are not explicable by sex differences either in attraction or in beliefs about what others find attractive. However, our data could explain why unattractive risks are more often taken by men than women (men slightly underestimated the degree of unattractiveness of such risks, whereas U.S. women overestimated it, perhaps because they themselves found such risk taking more unattractive than did U.S. men). (3) Both members of 25 couples reported their likelihood of engaging in specific risky behaviors, their perception of these risks, and how attractive they would have found these behaviors in their partner. One hypothesis was that, for instance, a woman afraid of heights would be particularly impressed by a man oblivious to such risks. Instead we found positive assortment for risk taking, which might be explained by a greater likelihood of encountering people with similar risk attitudes (e.g. members of the same clubs) or a greater compatibil

Our approach involves encoding the input rhythm as a contour string, and using approximate string matching to determine the most likely match with songs in the database.
