Online Fault-Tolerant Tracking Control With Adaptive Critic for Nonaffine Nonlinear systems

In this paper, a fault-tolerant-based online critic learning algorithm is developed to solve the optimal tracking control issue for nonaffine nonlinear systems with actuator ***, a novel augmented plant is constructed by fusing the system state and the reference trajectory, which aims to transform the optimal fault-tolerant tracking control design with actuator faults into the optimal regulation problem of the conventional nonlinear error system. Subsequently, in order to ensure the normal execution of the online learning algorithm, a stability criterion condition is created to obtain an initial admissible tracking policy. Then, the constructed model neural network(NN) is pretrained to recognize the system dynamics and calculate trajectory control. The critic and action NNs are constructed to output the approximate cost function and approximate tracking control,respectively. The Hamilton-Jacobi-Bellman equation of the error system is solved online through the action-critic framework. In theoretical analysis, it is proved that all concerned signals are uniformly ultimately bounded according to the Lyapunov *** tracking control law can approach the optimal tracking control within a finite approximation error. Finally, two experimental examples are conducted to indicate the effectiveness and superiority of the developed fault-tolerant tracking control scheme.

Fractal autoencoder with redundancy regularization for unsupervised feature selection

Feature selection is a crucial step in data preprocessing because feature selection reduces the dimensionality of data by eliminating irrelevant and redundant features. Since manual labeling is expensive, unsupervised feature selection has received increasing attention in recent years. However, existing unsupervised feature selection methods tend to prioritize selecting highly correlated features over exploring feature diversity. Thus, a regularized fractal autoencoder(RFAE) method is proposed to select informative features in an unsupervised way. Specifically, the fractal autoencoder network extends autoencoders to construct a correspondence neural network and a selection neural network. The correspondence neural network exploits interfeature correlations and the selection neural network selects the informative features. A redundancy regularization strategy consists of a redundancy elimination regularization term based on the dependency between features and a sparse regularization term based on the group lasso. The redundancy regularization strategy eliminates feature subset redundancy and enhances network generalization ability. Extensive experimental results on six publicly available datasets show that the proposed RFAE outperforms the compared methods regarding clustering accuracy and classification accuracy. Moreover, the proposed RFAE achieves acceptable computation efficiency.

Online Digital Twin Adaptive Critic Design With Long Short-Term Memory for Wastewater Treatment Plants

The wastewater treatment system is a complex unknown system with nonlinear and uncertain characteristics. It is necessary to control the concentration of the dissolved oxygen and the nitrate nitrogen at the set value in the wastewater treatment process. However, traditional control methods are difficult to meet the accuracy requirements for the required concentration value. At the same time, the digital twin (DT) technology has been widely applied to practical industrial systems like the wastewater treatment system in recent years. Based on the above backgrounds, an online DT adaptive critic design (DTACD) is developed by combining the long short-term memory (LSTM) neural network with the action-critic structure. First, a set of historical data is collected, which is used to build a digital model using LSTM. Then, the digital model is used to guide the real wastewater treatment system to control the nitrate nitrogen concentration and the dissolved oxygen concentration at set values. Finally, we select the Benchmark Simulation Model No.1 as the model for the simulation experiment. Compared with other methods, DTACD shows a better performance. © 2004-2012 IEEE.

Surface-PMSM Sensorless Control Strategy Based on Reduced-Order Linear Kalman Filter Cooperating with Prediction Error Rolling Compensation

Kalman filter (KF) is increasingly attracted for sensorless control of surface permanent magnet synchronous motors (SPMSMs) due to its strong robustness against measurement and system noise. However, conventional method suffers from poor position and speed estimation accuracy under dynamic conditions, and high computational cost. In order to solve these problems, an enhanced sensorless control strategy based on reduced-order linear Kalman filter (RLKF) cooperating with prediction error rolling compensation is introduced in this paper. Differing from conventional method, a reduced-order linear state equation encompassing rotor position, speed and torque disturbance is constructed. Then, by obtaining the prediction error of system output using the motor current equation in the predictive reference frame, the optimal estimation of rotor position and speed in KF algorithm is achieved based on the reduced-order model. This not only simplifies the calculation process, but also enhances the position and speed estimation accuracy under dynamic conditions. Meanwhile, a prediction error rolling compensation algorithm is developed to minimize the estimation deviations caused by motor parameters variations. Additionally, the system's dynamic performance is further improved with an adopted speed controller based on torque disturbance feedforward and acceleration feedback. Finally, experimental results verify the effectiveness and feasibility of the proposed strategy.1 © 1986-2012 IEEE.

Cross-view object geo-localization (CVOGL) aims to locate an object of interest in a captured ground- or drone-view image within the satellite image. However, existing works treat ground-view and drone-view query images equivalently, overlooking their inherent viewpoint discrepancies and the spatial correlation between the query image and the satellite-view reference image. To this end, this paper proposes a novel View-specific Attention Geo-localization method (VAGeo) for accurate CVOGL. Specifically, VAGeo contains two key modules: view-specific positional encoding (VSPE) module and channel-spatial hybrid attention (CSHA) module. In object-level, according to the characteristics of different viewpoints of ground and drone query images, viewpoint-specific positional codings are designed to more accurately identify the click-point object of the query image in the VSPE module. In feature-level, a hybrid attention in the CSHA module is introduced by combining channel attention and spatial attention mechanisms simultaneously for learning discriminative features. Extensive experimental results demonstrate that the proposed VAGeo gains a significant performance improvement, i.e., improving acc@0.25/acc@0.5 on the CVOGL dataset from 45.43%/42.24% to 48.21%/45.22% for ground-view, and from 61.97%/57.66% to 66.19%/61.87% for drone-view. © 2025 IEEE.

D2SFormer: Dual attention-dynamic bidirectional Transformer for semantic segmentation of urban remote sensing images

Semantic segmentation of urban remote sensing images (URSIs) is crucial for the development of smart cities and the acceleration of urban information. In view of the characteristics of URSIs with intricate backgrounds, dense distributions of feature objects, and varying object scales, we propose a dual attention-dynamic bidirectional Transformer (D2SFormer) for semantic segmentation of URSIs. First, a dual attention Transformer encoder has a global branch of cross-shaped window self-attention (CWSA) and a local branch of convolutional channel attention block (CCAB), which helps to enhance pixel-level semantic discrimination. Then, CCAB combines the local sensitivity of Conv with the non-local modeling capability of ECA for overlapping region resolution. Finally, the decoder dynamically fuses multiscale features to reconstruct boundaries and suppress artifacts by using a bidirectional feature pyramid network (BiFPN) and dysampling. Experimental results demonstrate that our D2SFormer achieves mIoUs of 87.84%, 81.24%, and 53.19% on the Potsdam, Vaihingen, and LoveDA datasets, respectively, which is highly competitive with existing methods. © 2008-2012 IEEE.

Underwater image enhancement (UIE) focuses on mitigating image quality degradation due to light absorption and scattering. However, most existing methods enhance images via a global and uniform manner, neglecting the inherent semantic information in different regions, which may cause the network to easily deviate from the region's original color. Moreover, these methods typically rely on clear images to guide network convergence, a process constrained by the limited availability of real-world datasets, making it extremely challenging to train enhancement models for various degradations. To address these challenges, this paper introduces a semantic guidance and region contrastive constraints network (SRCNet). Initially, we propose a semantic-aware RWKV (Receptance Weighted Key Value) block and a semantic prompt regularization module. These components leverage intra-target semantic correlations to preserve image details and colors within a global perceptual framework, while employing focal loss to emphasize the restoration of severely degraded regions. Subsequently, we introduce a region contrastive learning method that effectively utilizes negative samples to precisely capture features sensitive to degradation factors, thereby fostering robust feature distributions. Finally, experimental results demonstrate that our method outperforms existing state-of-the-art (SOTA) approaches. © 2025 IEEE.

Diffuse optical tomography (DOT) is a non-invasive, label-free imaging technique widely used in applications such as breast cancer diagnosis and brain imaging. It allows for the quantitative measurement of tissue functional parameters, including the concentrations of oxyhemoglobin, deoxyhemoglobin, and water. However, the quality of reconstructed images is poor due to light scattering. To address this challenge, one effective strategy is to incorporate anatomical information from high-resolution imaging to guide DOT reconstruction. In this study, a new approach (GRI) is developed to leverage MRI images based on graph structure for DOT reconstruction. And its feasibility and effectiveness were evaluated with numerical simulations. The results indicate that GRI significantly improves the structural similarity index (SSIM) of reconstructed total hemoglobin (HbT) images, outperforming conventional Tikhonov regularization and direct regularization imaging (DRI) method by more than 63% and 82%, respectively. These findings are further supported by experiments using real patient data, which demonstrate GRI's potential in breast cancer diagnosis. © 2025 SPIE.

Studies to enhance the management of electrical energy have gained considerable momentum in recent years. The question of how much energy will be needed in households is a pressing issue as it allows the management plan of the available resources at the power grids and consumer levels. A non-intrusive inference process can be adopted to predict the amount of energy required by appliances. In this study, an inference process of appliance consumption based on temporal and environmental factors used as a soft sensor is proposed. First, a study of the correlation between the electrical and environmental variables is presented. Then, a resampling process is applied to the initial data set to generate three other subsets of data. All the subsets were evaluated to deduce the adequate granularity for the prediction of the energy demand. Then, a cloud-assisted deep neural network model is designed to forecast short-term energy consumption in a residential area while preserving user privacy. The solution is applied to the consumption data of four appliances elected from a set of real household power data. The experiment results show that the proposed framework is effective for estimating consumption with convincing accuracy.
