WATuning:A Workload-Aware Tuning System with Attention-Based Deep Reinforcement Learning

Configuration tuning is essential to optimize the performance of systems(e.g.,databases,key-value stores).High performance usually indicates high throughput and low *** present,most of the tuning tasks of systems are performed artificially(e.g.,by database administrators),but it is hard for them to achieve high performance through tuning in various types of systems and in various *** recent years,there have been some studies on tuning traditional database systems,but all these methods have some *** this article,we put forward a tuning system based on attention-based deep reinforcement learning named WATuning,which can adapt to the changes of workload characteristics and optimize the system performance efficiently and ***,we design the core algorithm named ATT-Tune for WATuning to achieve the tuning task of *** algorithm uses workload characteristics to generate a weight matrix and acts on the internal metrics of systems,and then ATT-Tune uses the internal metrics with weight values assigned to select the appropriate ***,WATuning can generate multiple instance models according to the change of the workload so that it can complete targeted recommendation services for different types of ***,WATuning can also dynamically fine-tune itself according to the constantly changing workload in practical applications so that it can better fit to the actual environment to make *** experimental results show that the throughput and the latency of WATuning are improved by 52.6%and decreased by 31%,respectively,compared with the throughput and the latency of CDBTune which is an existing optimal tuning method.

With the proliferation of data-intensive industrial applications, the collaboration of computing powers among standalone edge servers is vital to provision such services for smart devices. In this paper, we propose an edge-driven industrial computing power network (CPN) by orchestrating the computing and network resources of edge servers through the centralized resource scheduling and decentralized task computing. However, efficient task offloading and collaborative processing is challenging, which requires higher degrees of network automation and intelligence. Therefore, we incorporate digital twins (DTs) into the edge-driven CPN architecture, where the DTs are created as the digital replicas to assist both the computation offloading and collaborative processing. A joint optimization problem of the computing power assignment, service association, task partition, and transmit power control is formulated for maximizing the system average weighted utility. Due to the temporal-spatial variability of tasks and the resulted dynamic environment, we transform the original problem as a Markov decision process aiming at maximizing the long-term average weighted utility. To efficiently handle the high-dimensional discrete-continuous action space, a hybrid soft actor-critic based deep reinforcement learning algorithm is developed for optimizing the joint design. Simulation results validate the superiority of our proposed algorithm over the benchmarks, showing the significant gains obtained by integrating DTs into the edge-driven CPN. © 1967-2012 IEEE.

Human skeleton point data has better environmental adaptability and motion expression ability than RGB video data. Therefore, the action recognition algorithm based on skeletal point data has received more and more attention and research. In recent years, skeletal point action recognition models based on graph convolutional networks (GCN) have demonstrated outstanding performance. However, most GCN-based skeletal action recognition models use three stable spatial configuration partitions, and manually set the connection relationship between each skeletal joint point. Resulting in an inability to better adapt to varying characteristics of different actions. And all channels of the input X features use the same graph convolution kernel, resulting in coupling aggregation. Contrary to the above problems, this paper proposes a new division strategy, which can better extract the feature information of neighbor nodes of nodes in the skeleton graph and adaptively obtain the connection relationship of joint nodes. And introduce Decoupled Graph Convolution (DC-GCN) to each partition to solve the coupled aggregation problem. Experiments on the NTU-RGB+D dataset show that the proposed method can achieve higher action recognition accuracy than most current methods. © ICST Institute for Computer Sciences, Social Informatics and Telecommunications engineering 2024.

Gradient-based repair aims to repair infeasible solutions to feasible ones using the gradient information of the constraints. As an effective constraint handling method, gradientbased repair has received extensive attention and has been applied in various evolutionary algorithms (EAs). Nevertheless, due to the complexity of constraints in practical problems, a single infeasible solution often needs to be repaired multiple times until it becomes a feasible solution or reaches the maximum number of repairs. As far as we know, existing related research on gradient-based repair mainly applies this method directly to EAs, while there is little work in the evolutionary computing community on how to improve gradient-based repair. Currently, the multiple repairs for a single individual are independent. That is, the current repair does not consider the previous repair experience. However, only using gradient information to repair infeasible individuals may result in oscillations in the search process. Therefore, in this paper, we propose a heuristic gradient-based repair method (HGR) which exploits the previous repair information of an individual to alleviate this issue. Instant delivery has become a fundamental service in people's daily lives. Different from the traditional express service, the instant delivery has a strict shipping time constraint after being ordered. However, the labor shortage makes it challenging to realize efficient instant delivery. To tackle the problem, researchers have studied to introduce vehicles (i.e., taxis) or Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs or drones) into instant delivery tasks. Unfortunately, the delivery detour of taxis and the limited battery of UAVs make it hard to meet the rapidly increasing instant delivery demands. Under this circumstance, this paper proposes an air-ground cooperative instant delivery paradigm to maximize the delivery performance and meanwhile minimize the negative effects on the taxi passengers. Specifically, a data-driven delivery potential-demands-aware cooperative strategy is designed to improve the overall delivery performance of both UAVs and taxis as well as the taxi passengers' experience. The experimental results show that the proposed method improves the delivery number by 30.1% and 114.5% compared to the taxi-based and UAV-based instant delivery respectively, and shortens the delivery time by 35.7% compared to the taxi-based instant delivery. © 2024 IEEE.

In modern datacenters, memory disaggregation un-packs monolithic servers to build independent network-connected compute and memory pools, greatly improving resource uti-lization. Existing memory-disaggregated key-value stores adopt ownership sharing or ownership partitioning for request scheduling and they all show poor performance and scalability. The former generates multiple cache misses and multiple network round trips due to poor cache locality, while the latter fails to fully use resources on all Compute Nodes (CNs) due to load imbalance. In this paper, we propose Seastar, a fast and scalable key-value store that achieves high cache locality as well as load balancing. To enable high concurrency and ensure linearizability, Seastar exploits a self-verification version chain to provide out-of-place atomic updates and ensure consistent reads. To improve cache locality, Seastar leverages a pair-based ownership assigning scheme to assign the processing permission of requests corre-sponding to each key to a CN pair through two independent hash functions. To ensure load balancing among CNs, Seastar proposes a decentralized power-of-two-choices routing scheme to route the requests to the less-loaded CNs in CN pairs for handling. Experimental results demonstrate that Seastar improves the throughput by up to 6.7x and significantly reduces the latency compared with state-of-the-art memory-disaggregated key-value stores. © 2024 IEEE.

With the advancement of deep learning, object detectors (ODs) with various architectures have achieved significant success in complex scenarios like autonomous driving. Previous adversarial attacks against ODs have been focused on designing customized attacks targeting their specific structures (e.g., NMS and RPN), yielding some results but simultaneously constraining their scalability. Moreover, most efforts against ODs stem from image-level attacks originally designed for classification tasks, resulting in redundant computations and disturbances in object-irrelevant areas (e.g., background). Consequently, how to design a model-agnostic efficient attack to comprehensively evaluate the vulnerabilities of ODs remains challenging and unresolved. In this paper, we propose NumbOD, a brand-new spatial-frequency fusion attack against various ODs, aimed at disrupting object detection within images. We directly leverage the features output by the OD without relying on its internal structures to craft adversarial examples. Specifically, we first design a dual-track attack target selection strategy to select high-quality bounding boxes from OD outputs for targeting. Subsequently, we employ directional perturbations to shift and compress predicted boxes and change classification results to deceive ODs. Additionally, we focus on manipulating the high-frequency components of images to confuse ODs’ attention on critical objects, thereby enhancing the attack efficiency. Our extensive experiments on nine ODs and two datasets show that NumbOD achieves powerful attack performance and high stealthiness. © 2025, Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence (***). Dual-view gaze target estimation in classroom environments has not been thoroughly explored. Existing methods lack consideration of depth information, primarily focusing on 2D image information and neglecting the latent 3D spatial context, which could lead to suboptimal transformation and cause the gaze cone to intersect with an incorrect object. This paper introduces a novel dual-view gaze target estimation method tailored for classroom settings, leveraging depth-enhanced spatial transformations. By formulating a depth-enhanced 2D space, our method uses depth-enhanced spatial transformation to accurately project students' gaze cones to the teacher-oriented image. Additionally, we collected a dataset named DVSGE, specifically for student gaze target estimation in dual-view classroom images. Experimental results demonstrate significant performance improvements of 9.8% in AUC and 19.9% in L2-Distance for our method, surpassing existing methods. © 2025 IEEE.
