Combining term semantics with content and structure semantics for XML element search results clustering

The biggest characteristic of the XML retrieval is able to return the element node results. This paper studies XML element search results clustering and proposes one similarity measurement method based on term semantics, in which the "core" concept between terms is got through latent semantic indexing technology(LSI) and the same time the XML element node content and semantic structure properties(CASS) are combined. In addition, two new performance evaluation methodologies, namely R_ClusterRatio and R_DocuRatio are introduced to evaluate clustering quality. It is motivated by the observations of relevant documents distribution and the fact that the experiment data collection, IEEE CS corpus, do not provide classification information. Experiment results show that proposed similarity method combining term semantics with content and structure semantics integration(LSI-CASS) is feasible, and it produces better clustering quality than LSI-CAS and CASS.

Probabilistic database has become a popular tool for uncertain data management. Most work in the area is focused on efficient query processing and has two main directions, accurate or approximate evaluation. In recent work for conjunctive query without self-joins on a tuple-independent probabilistic database, query evaluation is equivalent to computing marginal probabilities of boolean formulas associated with query results. If formulas can be factorized into a read-once form where every variable appears at most once, confidence computation is reduced to a tractable problem that can be evaluated in linear time. Otherwise, it is regarded as a NP-hard problem and need to be evaluated approximately. In this paper, we propose a framework that evaluates both tractable and NP-hard conjunctive queries efficiently. First, we develop a novel structure H-tree, where boolean formulas are decomposed to small partitions which are either read-once or NP-hard. Then we propose algorithms for building H-tree and parallelizing (approximate) confidence computation. We also propose fundamental theorems to ensure the correctness of our approaches. Performance experiments demonstrate the benefits of H-tree, especially for approximate confidence evaluation on NP-hard queries. © 2012 Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg.

Given a set of client locations, a set of facility locations where each facility has a service capacity, and the assumptions that: (i) a client seeks service from its nearest facility;(ii) a facility provides service to clients in the order of their proximity, we study the problem of selecting all possible locations such that setting up a new facility with a given capacity at these locations will maximize the number of served clients. This problem has wide applications in practice, such as setting up new distribution centers for online sales business and building additional base stations for mobile subscribers. We formulate the problem as location selection query for utility maximization. After applying three pruning rules to a baseline solution,we obtain an efficient algorithm to answer the query. Extensive experiments confirm the efficiency of our proposed algorithm. © 2012 ACM.

In this paper, we address the problem of data Compression which is critical in wireless sensor networks. We proposed a novel Topology-based data Compression (TDC) algorithm for wireless sensor networks. We utilize the topological structure of routing tree to reduce the transmission of message packets. We analyzed the differences and relations between our algorithm and other compression algorithms. Extensive experiments are conducted to evaluate the performance of the proposed TDC approach by using two kinds of data sets: real data set and synthetic data set. The results show that the TDC algorithm substantially outperforms Non-compression algorithm in terms of packets transmitted. © 2012 Springer-Verlag.

With the unceasing improvement of data mining and natural language processing technology, more and more researchers devote themselves to comment resources on the Web. While there are no readymade emotional corpora in the financial and securities domain, emotional analysis applied in this field is still rare. As financial information is usually in the form of unstructured Web Text, this paper fully considers characteristics of financial information, and analyzes the emotion of Web Text by calculating their emotional inclination values based on evaluation scores of morpheme. For each document we compute an emotional value. Its symbol indicates the emotional inclination, and its absolute value reflects the emotional intensity. Thus, this can prevent the limitation of lacking emotional corpus in the financial and securities domain. Experimental results demonstrate that this presented scheme optimizes the existing main schemes to effectively analyze the emotional inclinations of Web financial information.

Along with the development of Internet and Web2.0, online social networks (OSNs) are becoming an important information propagation platform. Therefore, it is of great significance to study the information propagation rules in OSNs. An information propagation model named IP-OSN is proposed in this paper, and some simulation experiments are carried out to investigate the mechanism of information propagation. From the experimental results, we can see that along with the information propagation, the number of known nodes increases and reaches its maximum, then keep an unchanging status. Moreover, from the user behavior aspect, we find that different user behavior in OSNs causes different information propagation results, the more users who are willing to diffuse information, the more scope the information can propagate and the faster the information diffuses. Findings in this paper are meaningful for theory of information propagation and complex networks. © 2012 Springer-Verlag.

In this paper, we investigate belief revision in possibilistic logic, which is a weighted logic proposed to deal with incomplete and uncertain information. Existing revision operators in possibilistic logic are restricted in the sense that the input information can only be a formula instead of a possibilistic knowledge base which is a set of weighted formulas. To break this restriction, we consider weighted prime implicants of a possibilistic knowledge base and use them to define novel revision operators in possibilistic logic. Intuitively, a weighted prime implicant of a possibilistic knowledge base is a logically weakest possibilistic term (i.e., a set of weighted literals) that can entail the knowledge base. We first show that the existing definition of a weighted prime implicant is problematic and need a modification. To define a revision operator using weighted prime implicants, we face two problems. The first problem is that we need to define the notion of a conflict set between two weighted prime implicants of two possibilistic knowledge bases to achieve minimal change. The second problem is that we need to define the disjunction of possibilistic terms. We solve these problems and define two conflict-based revision operators in possibilistic logic. We then adapt the well-known postulates for revision proposed by Katsuno and Mendelzon and show that our revision operators satisfy four of the basic adapted postulates and satisfy two others in some special cases. In this paper, the author defines Generalized Unique Game Problem (GUGP), where weights of the edges are allowed to be negative. Two special types of GUGP are illuminated, GUGP-NWA, where the weights of all edges are negative, and GUGP-PWT (ρ), where the total weight of all edges are positive and the negative-positive ratio is at most ρ. The author investigates the counterpart of the Unique Game Conjecture on GUGP-PWT (ρ). The author shows that Unique Game Conjecture on GUGP-PWT (1) holds true, and Unique Game Conjecture on GUGP-PWT (1=2) holds true, if the 2-to-1 Conjecture holds true. The author poses an open problem whether Unique Game Conjecture holds true on GUGP-PWT (ρ) with 0 < ρ < 1. © 2012 Binary information Press.

Given a multi-features data set, a best preference query (BPQ) computes the maximal preference score (MPS) that the tuples in the data set can achieve with respect to a preference function. BPQs are very useful in applications where users want to efficiently check whether many individual data sets contain tuples that are of interest to them. Although a BPQ can be naïvely answered by issuing a top-1 query and computing the score from the returned tuple, doing so might require to load a larger number of tuples externally. In this paper, we address the problem of efficient processing BPQs by using lightweight cubic (3-dimensional) views. With these in-memory views, the MPSs of BPQs can be efficiently estimated with an error bound guaranteed, by paying only a small number of I/Os. Extensive experimental results over real-life data sets show that our approximate solution can achieve the efficiency of up to three orders of magnitude compared to exact solutions, with certain accuracy guaranteed. © 2012 ACM.

Compared to conventional ring signature schemes, conditionally anonymous ring signatures allow to revoke the anonymity of actual signer without the group manager's help if necessary. When the actual signer intends to confirm his role, it can be proved by a confirmation algorithm. In addition, any user, who is in a ring but not signer, can claim this through a disavowal algorithm. There were several proposals which were proved secure in random oracles. In other words, the security of such schemes depends on the randomness of hash functions. Recently, Zeng et al. proposed a generic construction of conditionally anonymous ring signature scheme without random oracles. Their scheme relies on NIZKs and pseudorandom functions, which render it to be inefficient. This paper proposes a practical ring signature scheme with traceability without random oracles in the common reference string model. © 2012 Springer-Verlag.
