A Patent Review of Lung-airway Modeling with Tangential Digital Twin Technology

Background: The digital twin as an integrated technology has been widely used in the medical field. Currently, the application of digital twin technology in the field of respiratory science is mostly theoretical exploration, with less applied technical research. Therefore, this has greatly limited the development of lung-airway models and devices that cope with digital twin technology in clinical settings and has also hindered the development of digital twin technology. Objective: The aim of this study is to propose an effective physical model to simulate the human environment as an efficient means to develop and improve the digital twin technology. Methods: A representative set of patents related to physical models of the respiratory tract and lungs is presented, including methods for model building and ways to assess and predict the diagnosis of respiratory diseases. Results: Current patents are analyzed and compared in three aspects: physical models, model building methods, and respiratory disease assessment and prediction. A digital twin modeling approach, including mechanical effects, biological evolution, physiological tissue changes, and physical entity coupling is proposed based on the hardware support involved in rapid prototyping techniques and method patents. The advantages and disadvantages of the existing models are analyzed, and the systematicity, applicability, modeling techniques, and fidelity of the digital twin physical model are discussed. Conclusion: Lung airway models are already based on complete morphological data, but purely physical models cannot reproduce the real environment of the human body. Therefore, in order to reach the heights of digital twins, the intervention of numerical theory and related auxiliary hardware is often required. © 2023 Bentham science Publishers.

A Review of Soft Crawling Robots with Different Driving Methods

Background: Traditional rigid robots are difficult to adapt to complex unstructured environments due to their limited degree of freedom and lack of flexibility. Therefore, soft crawling robots are concerned widely by their powerful deformation ability, infinite number of degrees of freedom, and effective interaction with humans. Objective: This paper aims to report the recent progress of soft crawling robots and provide a reference for readers in this field. Methods: By reading and summarizing the patents and papers related to soft crawling robots in recent years, they are divided into three categories according to different driving methods. The structure, motion mechanism, characteristics, and applications of each class of robots are compared and analyzed. Results: The advantages and disadvantages of each driving method are analyzed, and the key issues in soft crawling robots are pointed out. Based on this, the future development direction of this research field is predicted. Conclusion: The study shows that according to the driving method, soft crawling robots are classified as pressure driven, motor-wire driven, and soft active material driven. In addition, the characteristics of each drive are summarized. In the future, soft crawling robots will have more potential applications in biomedicine, outdoor survey, rescue search, and inspection and maintenance of equipment. © 2024 Bentham science Publishers.

An approach for formation design and flight performance prediction based on aerodynamic formation unit:Energy-saving considerations

The performance improvement of swarm drones through aerodynamic shape optimization may be challenging due to folded size constraints imposed by the specific launch ***,fixed-wing aircraft swarms can benefit from formation flight in terms of energy *** study introduces the concept of the"aerodynamic formation unit",which consists of two or three aircraft that form an inseparable unit of the *** the Unmanned Aerial Vehicle(UAV)distribution and wingtip vortex interference in the formation,two typical aerodynamic formation units are optimized by the variable-fidelity aerodynamic optimization method based on space *** aerodynamic characteristics of the formation UAVs that affect flight performance,such as lift-to-drag ratio(L/D ratio)and static stability are analyzed by Computational Fluid Dynamics(CFD)*** L/D ratio(cruising condition)of the following aircraft can be increased by 22.8%and 57.5%in the optimal units that involve two and three aircraft ***,this study conducts several CFD simulations for multi-aircraft formations formed by the units,which show that the average L/D ratio of the formation can be improved by more than 19%.These results verify the feasibility and effectiveness of the"aerodynamic formation unit"concept and the optimization framework for formation parameters.

In this paper, an autonomous real-time mine detection algorithm based on improved YOLOv5 in a complex underwater environment is proposed. The target recognition system based on the optical image is used to guide autonomous underwater vehicles (AUV) to achieve high precision mine exploration and assist the autonomous mine hunting weapon system to finish the mine-hunting task. In view of all kinds of various interference information of the underwater optical images, a set of image preprocessing systems has been added to the algorithm based on YOLOv5 which has the advantages of both detection accuracy and detection speed. The original data are processed by data enhancement, image enhancement, sample equalization, negative sample addition, and Poisson fusion, which can reduce the problem of poor detection results caused by the input image quality to some extent. At the same time, the number of layers of YOLOv5 is reduced, which makes the detection algorithm meet the requirements of the AUV embedded system without affecting the detection accuracy, and improves the real-time detection of the mobile terminals. The experimental results show that the proposed method could effectively improve the detection accuracy and real-time performance of the underwater mine detection system. © 2022 IEEE.

The sea cucumber fishing ROV needs to select and grade the sea cucumber when it is fishing the sea cucumber. However, refraction and image quality seriously affect the recognition of sea cucumber by sea cucumber fishing ROV and the accurate measurement of sea cucumber size. This paper presents a new method of sea cucumber identification and size measurement based on YOLOv7 and GrabCut-RGBD. On the left eye correction image, the pretrained YOLOv7 sea cucumber detection model was used to identify the sea cucumber and locate the region of interest. A GrabCut-RGBD image segmentation method was used to segment two-dimensional sea cucumber objects on the region of interest, so as to obtain two-dimensional sea cucumber dimensions. The three-dimensional coordinates are obtained by triangulation, and the optimal size measurement point is found on the target image of sea cucumber to realize automatic size measurement of sea cucumber. The experimental results show that the accuracy of sea cucumber identification is 97%, and the average error of sea cucumber size measurement is 6%, which is better than the traditional method in sea cucumber identification and size measurement. © 2023 IEEE.

This article studies the fault detection filtering design problem for Roesser type two-dimensional(2-D)nonlinear systems described by uncertain 2-D Takagi-Sugeno(T-S)fuzzy ***,fuzzy Lyapunov functions are constructed and the 2-D Fourier transform is exploited,based on which a finite frequency fault detection filtering design method is proposed such that a residual signal is generated with robustness to external disturbances and sensitivity to *** has been shown that the utilization of available frequency spectrum information of faults and disturbances makes the proposed filtering design method more general and less conservative compared with a conventional nonfrequency based filtering design ***,with the proposed evaluation function and its threshold,a novel mixed finite frequency H_(∞)/H_(-)fault detection algorithm is developed,based on which the fault can be immediately detected once the evaluation function exceeds the ***,it is verified with simulation studies that the proposed method is effective and less conservative than conventional non-frequency and/or common Lyapunov function based filtering design methods.

The advantage of Dual three-phase Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motors (DTP-PMSMs) is their excellent fault tolerance ability. However, the complex fault-tolerant controller structure and the high torque ripple when operating after failure limit their further development. This paper develops a fault tolerant control scheme for DTP-PMSMs under open-phase faults (OPFs) with only 3 current loops and smooth output torque. The proposed controller structure can remain basically unchanged as normal operation and appropriate voltage compensation is deduced and employed to suppress the torque ripple induced by OPF. Simulation and experiment results demonstrate the analysis and the validity of the proposed strategy. © 2023 IEEE.

Near-field Beam Training with Sparse DFT Codebook

Extremely large-scale arrays (XL-arrays) have emerged as one promising technology to improve the spectral efficiency and spatial resolution in future sixth generation (6G) wireless systems. The drastic increase in the number of antennas renders the communication users more likely to be located in the near-field region, which requires a more accurate spherical (instead of planar) wavefront propagation modeling. However, this also inevitably incurs unaffordable beam training overhead when performing a two-dimensional (2D) beam-search in both the angular and range domains. To address this issue, we first introduce in this paper a new sparse discrete Fourier transform (DFT) codebook, which exhibits the angular periodicity in the received beam pattern at the user. This thus motivates us to propose a three-phase beam training scheme. Specifically, in the first phase, we utilize the sparse DFT codebook for beam sweeping in an angular subspace and estimate candidate user angles according to the received beam pattern. Then, a central subarray is activated to scan specific candidate angles for resolving the issue of angular ambiguity for identifying the user angle. In the third phase, the polar-domain codebook is applied in the estimated angle to search the best effective user range. Finally, numerical results show that our proposed beam training scheme enabled by the sparse DFT codebook achieves 98.67% beam training overhead reduction as compared to the exhaustive-search scheme, yet without compromising rate performance in the high signal-to-ratio (SNR) regime. © 1972-2012 IEEE.

Background: With the increasing number of patients with cardiovascular and respiratory diseases, medical stents are needed to reshape the blood vessels and trachea to restore their func-tion. Due to its high degree of standardization, the existing medical stent manufacturing technology is mature and suitable for most groups. However, conventional medical stents are not suitable for every patient due to the patients’ individual differences and other reasons. Hence, patients need custom medical stents. Therefore, 3D printing technology with high customization function as an emerging stent manufacturing method has attracted much attention in recent years. Objective: By solving the problem of poor matching rates between traditional medical stents and human body channels, 3D printing technology will continue to develop in the medical stent manufacturing field. Methods: This study traces the representative patents related to the vascular stent and tracheal stent manufacturing based on 3D printing technology. Results: Through the analysis of numerous patents about 3D printed vascular stents and tracheal stents, the reasons for the mismatched medical stent specifications and low efficiency are summa-rized. The challenges in the development of 3D printing medical stents are discussed. Conclusion: Research on the 3D printing of medical stents is conducive to improving patients’ suitability and medical stent implantation and reducing the time cost. More patents will be invented in the future. © 2023 Bentham science Publishers.
