In recent years, some communication satellites lost their ability due to failure of mechanisms to deploy, resulting in large cost. A space robotic system is expected to perform the on-orbit repairing mission. This is a tremendous challenge since the targets are generally non-cooperative, i.e. not any artificial patterns used for the measurement are mounted on the targets. Moreover, these targets are very large. Limited by the FOV (field of view), a monocular camera can not supply enough information of the targets. In this paper, a method based on two coordinated cameras is proposed to determine the pose (position and orientation) of a large non-cooperative target. Firstly, we designed a sensing system used for the non-cooperative measurement according to the investigation of the communication satellites characteristics. Then, a rectangle feature, which is common in the configuration of a satellite, is chosen as the recognized object. Secondly, we proposed that two cameras share the recognition task in a coordinated behavior, i.e. each provides partial image of the rectangle, and the full features are then obtained by fusing their information. Lastly, the corresponding algorithm of pose measurement is addressed. Simulation results of typical cases verify the proposed approach.

In this paper, we describe 3-D display in the aspect of communication technology. 3-D display provides 3-D images to the viewers with more accurate and realistic information than which 2-D display does. This feature is an essential component of communication technology. Generally communication technology pursues for exchanging and sharing of thoughts, feelings and ideas. 3-D displays are effective contact media to achieve these goals. The concept of accessible spatial dimension of a person is used to describe 3-D display in the aspect of communication technology. It is classified into three dimensions and each of dimensions represents the dimension of contact media. The need for precise fast positioning technique draws attention on space inter-satellite optical communication. This paper presents a novel PZT actuated precise tilt positioning system (PTPS), which consists of the control module, the PZT driving module, the precise tilt positioning mechanism (PTPM), and the precise displacement measure module. It provides a fast and precise control in tilt movements. Firstly, the structure analysis and design of PTPM are accomplished. Then the control module is developed and the current/ voltage composite driving method is investigated in detail. Finally, following the experimental results which confirm the validity of the design and theoretical analysis of the PFPS.

Learning background statistics is an essential task for several visual surveillance applications such as incident detection and traffic management. An adaptive foreground object extraction algorithm for real-time video surveillance is presented in this paper. The proposed algorithm improves the classic Gaussian mixture background models (GMM) to remove the undesirable subtraction results due to sudden illumination change. This implementation is achieved by replacing the whole image with edge image to build mixture Gaussian models at every frame. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm possesses higher performance on real surveillance video under a variety of different environments with lighting variations.

Fuzzy time series forecasting model is an effective method to solve the nonlinear problems forecasting. However, most published fuzzy time series based models did not count the change trend implicit in historical datum. In this paper, authors proposed a novel method which applied heuristic information to the fuzzy time series model based on Fibonacci sequence. As an example, the USD/JPY exchange rate is tested in this model. The results show that this method not only improves the forecasting accuracy, but decreases the computational complexity.

Although we can often observe time-series data of many elements, these elements do not always interact with each other. This paper proposes a scheme to estimate the interdependency among observed elements only by time-series data, which is useful for selecting essential elements to optimize multivariate prediction model. Because this estimation is a sort of combinatorial optimization problems, we applied the genetic algorithm as a method to moderate this problem. Through some simulations, we confirmed performance of our method, which can identify interaction of multivariate system and can improve its prediction accuracy. Especially, our method can be applied to predict real foreign-exchange markets even if system has nonstational property and its structure changes dynamically.
