Coupled-ring reflector laser diodes composed of squared ring waveguides are fabricated and it is demonstrated that the laser diodes exhibit single mode operation and 15 nm tuning range with SMSR exceeding 25 dB.

This paper presents an image formation model of a digital camera with consideration of both optical and the Bayer color filter array (CFA) degradations. Based on the proposed model, a regularized iterative image restoration algorithm is presented to deconvolve the space-variant image degradation. The spatially adaptive version further improves the restoration quality. Hardware implementation issues are briefly summarized, and future modification plan is presented.

This paper presents a spatially adaptive image restoration for EDoF lens images. A practical implementation method is also discussed for real-time applications. For basic image restoration we adopt the truncated constrained least squares (TCLS) filter, and for adaptively selecting the weights of the observed and the restored images we compute local variance. Based on experimental results, we can claim that the proposed restoration algorithm can successfully remove the image degradation with suppressing noise amplification.

We model the sum and product riddle in public announcement logic, which is interpreted on an epistemic Kripke model. The model is symbolically represented as a finite state program with n agents. A model checking method to the riddle is developed by using the BDD-based symbolic model checking algorithm for logic of knowledge we developed in [7]. The method is implemented by extending the model checker MCTK [7] and then the solution of the riddle is verified successfully.

Image processing method that detects a particular moving object from an image by a fixed camera and tracking is noticed in various fields and it is a very important subject. In this paper, we propose a moving object tracking method that can cope with change of the area accompany the random walk movement of the moving object oneself and change of the brightness arise from change of the environmental such as a masking or change of the illumination. Proposal method can be robust processing for change of the illumination based on Orientation Code Matching that is demonstrated that is robust for the masking or change of the illumination. And, using Motion Vector derived from a continuity of the random walk model motion, under the condition that there are similar walk models, it can discriminate the walk model and individually tracking. Through the some experiment, this paper inspects the effectiveness of our proposed method. © 2008 SPIE.

Recently, robotic automation in clinical laboratory becomes of keen interest as a fusion of bio and robotic technology. In this paper, we present a new robotic platform for clinical tests suitable for small or medium sized laboratories using mobile robots. The mobile robot called Mobile Agent is designed as transfer system of blood samples, reagents, microplates, and other instruments. Also, the mobile agent can perform diverse tests simultaneously based on its cooperative and distributed ability. The driving circuits for the mobile agent are embedded in the robot, and each mobile agent communicates with other agents by using Bluetooth communication. The RFID system is used to recognize patient information. The BioRobot platform based on mobile agents can control throughput according to the amount of tests. Also, the operation and maintenance of the system can be improved because its components are easily replaceable. To evaluate feasibility for BioRobot platform, the system was manufactured and validated by preliminary experiments.

To understand the fire characteristics of multiple fire sources in three dimensions' we conducted a series of experiments using two small pool fires. As a result' mass burning rates for both pool fires are larger than that of a single pool fire' especially the mass burning rate for the upper pan remarkably increases compared with that for the lower pan. In this paper' the effects of external radiation and buoyant flow on mass burning rate were analytically examined. The external radiative heat flux was calculated using a cylindrical flame model. Additional convective heat flux due to induced buoyant flow by other fire source was estimated by modified Grashof number. The calculation results comparatively consist with experimental results. The calculation model was applied to examine the scale effect of fire sources for the upper pan. Additional convective heat transfer rate is larger than that of external radiation in small scale fire sources less than 0.2 m of diameter' while the external radiation becomes to be dominant heat transfer mode in fire sources above 0.5 m of diameter.

It is well known that humans have high-level action intelligence. If such action intelligence could be represented in certain form, it could contribute to the path-planning problem of autonomous mobile robot. Therefore we shall address to transfer human action intelligence to mobile robot by means of imitation and acquire such action intelligence. Based on the effectiveness of previously proposed imitation method in simulation environment, we need to further verify the effectiveness of proposed imitation method and achieve the imitation of action intelligence on a real mobile robot. In this paper, the imitation of human action intelligence for the environment of desktop teleoperation, including experimental platform, research methods, and experimental procedures, was discussed. Firstly, imitation problem was clarified from the viewpoint of problem solving system, which provides guidance to the construction of imitation system. As an experimental platform, a desktop teleoperation system, including mobile robot and manipulation interface, was introduced. Through the developed teleoperation system, the intention representing human action intelligence can be easily transferred into mobile robot and meanwhile the corresponding action data can also be obtained for modeling. Then, based on the teleoperation system, the imitation procedure of human action intelligence was described. Finally, the effectiveness of proposed imitation method was illuminated by experiment. ©ISAROB 2007.
