In this article, a 6-18 GHz power amplifier (PA) using reconfigurable elements is presented. The matching networks of the proposed PA are designed based on switched-capacitor and switched-inductance to facilitate impedance transformation at dual frequency bands. Through dual mode network analysis method, a PA operating at X/Ku with saturation output power of 38 dBm and the power added efficiency (PAE) of 30%-42% over the band of 6-18 GHz is designed and being fabricated using 0.20 μm GaN process.
