In this paper, we introduce Power Grid Analyzer (PGAz), an open-source software package based on MATLAB, specifically designed for analyzing and controlling future power grids. Initially, PGAz is equipped with four fundamental features: power flow (PF), optimal power flow (OPF), small-signal stability analysis (SSSA), and time-domain simulation (TS). At this stage, Part I concentrates on the development of PF and OPF. The formats of our developed tool are presented, along with its command prompts. In this part, we have developed several conventional yet effective methods in the PGAz package to address PF and OPF problems, including techniques such as the Newton-Raphson method, Gauss-Seidel method, Interior Point Method, Iwamoto’s method, Fast Decoupled Load Flow, Genetic Algorithm, and Particle Swarm Optimization. Additionally, it em-phasizes important aspects, algorithms, and various case studies that have been tested against IEEE benchmarks ranging from the IEEE 5-bus to the IEEE 300-bus test systems. The results demonstrate the capabilities of PGAz for future educational and research applications in PF and OPF. Finally, we outline a plan for developing Part II, which will mainly focus on SSSA and TS.

The integration of distributed controllable loads in future islanding microgrids (MGs) is growing. This creates new opportunities to actively shape grid frequency and voltage. As a result, it leads to the development of distributed grid-forming loads (DGFM-Ls). Simultaneously, it is equally crucial to ensure robustness, particularly in preserving small-signal stability amid the multi-agent collaboration. This paper presents a strategy for the small-signal stability enhancement in islanding MGs with DGFM-Ls. The small-signal models of the MG with DGFMLs are mathematically developed and analyzed. The multi-agent cooperation is modelled to improve the small-signal stability of the MG with DGFM-Ls. Additionally, uncertainties from multi-agent cooperation, such as partial or complete lack of measured signal observability, are considered. Data quality issues are also taken into account under various conditions. Simulation results are conducted in a MG with a significant penetration of inverter-based resources under various MG operating points and conditions such as topology changes and unavailability of certain agents. © 1969-2012 IEEE.

The centre of inertia (CoI) is essential for accurate system inertia estimation. Assuming the CoI is static and based on fixed measurements ignores the fact that it changes over time. This can lead to inaccurate estimates since the CoI shifts as system conditions change. To address this issue, this paper presents an adaptive data-driven CoI selection framework that dynamically selects the optimal CoI in a multi-measurement power system. The optimal CoI is used based on selected parameters to estimate the total inertia between any two regions. This process is conducted at each time interval or whenever stamped data from system measurements are received. Simulation results verify that the proposed adaptive CoI selection, compared to a conventional method where the CoI is fixed to a specific pair of measurements, provides more accurate estimation results under varying loading conditions, perturbations, and inertia levels. This paper also explores future developments and identify gaps, while also discussing potential directions for upcoming research works.

This research focuses on a small power producer operating a cogeneration power plant that utilizes natural gas as fuel to generate electricity. The plant, with a capacity of 90 MW, supplies both electricity and steam to industrial customers within a designated industrial zone. Power is delivered to four feeder industrial customers and the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) at voltage levels of 115 kV and 22 kV. The five customers connected to Feeder 4 at 22 kV experienced voltage sags caused by short circuits in the distribution system. These sags had a significant impact on their production processes, as the machinery in their factories is interdependent and requires high-quality power to function properly. Certain machines, being highly sensitive to voltage fluctuations, stop operating if the voltage drops outside their acceptable range. This disrupts the production process, as the halted machinery must undergo recovery and restart procedures, which are time-consuming. Consequently, this downtime leads to delays and lost revenue opportunities for the affected customers. This issue is a significant concern for factories in industrial estates. Therefore, to address this problem, this research focuses on studying methods to mitigate the impact of voltage sags by installing a Neutral Grounding Resistor (NGR). The study simulates the distribution system during a single line to ground fault. This research examines the effects of voltage sags to inform the design of NGR installations, including investment and cost-effectiveness for resistances of 0, 6, 13, 19 and 26 ohms. Simultaneously, the study also investigates the potential for voltage swell in the distribution system due to the installation of the NGR. The study is conducted using MATLAB Simulink simulations. The findings suggest that installing an NGR with a resistance of 13 ohms is the optimal choice, offering optimal voltage sag, voltage swell, and fault current performance. The budget for the N

The lighting system is a continuously used energy system found in all buildings. This system is highly complex as it includes various types such as incandescent bulbs, fluorescent tubes, HID lamps, and LEDs. These types of loads consist of many electronic components and are significant sources of Auto-Tuned Active Filter signals. These harmonic signals directly affect protective devices and electronic equipment in the building's electrical system. Therefore, reducing the harmonic signals generated by the lighting system is crucial for buildings. Generally, harmonic reduction can be achieved by installing one of three types of filters: active, passive, and hybrid. This research presents the design of an auto-tuned active filter using the MATLAB Simulink and tests it using four lighting load cases. The designed circuit can effectively reduce harmonic signals while also improving the energy efficiency of the building.

Lighting systems for roadways are an important aspect of the transportation system in terms of safety and providing comfort for drivers. Conventional lighting systems use high-pressure sodium luminaires, which consume a lot of energy. This paper proposes an evaluation of roadway lighting using lightemitting diodes (LEDs) as luminaires. The paper uses a two-lane road as a case study and simulates the lighting parameters using DIALux software. The case study varies the wattage of the luminaires, pole distances, and pole arrangements, while keeping the pole specifications fixed. The parameters under consideration include illuminance, luminance, and uniformity on the road surface. Additionally, the results are compared with international criteria standards to confirm that the selected LED luminaires can provide the necessary lighting quality for road usage. The results show that LED luminaires can provide lighting quality within standard criteria. However, different pole arrangements require different levels of wattage and pole distances. Therefore, the selection of LEDs needs to match the design of pole distances and arrangements to provide sufficient roadway lighting. © 2024 IEEE.

In Thailand, the risk of wildfires has increased due to climate change, deforestation, and land-use practices. Distribution networks with feeders that traverse fire-prone forests and grasslands are particularly vulnerable to wildfire damage. Therefore, this study assesses the potential risks that wildfires pose to distribution networks in Thailand by analyzing wildfire hotspot data across different regions. Hotspot data, derived from satellite imagery, provides valuable insights into the frequency and intensity of wildfires in specific areas, which can be correlated with the location and layout of distribution networks. This study aims to identify areas where distribution networks could be at the greatest risk of wildfire-induced disruptions. The study focuses on four major regions of Thailand: the Northern, Northeastern, Central, and Southern regions. Each region has distinct geographical and climatic characteristics that influence wildfire patterns and their potential impacts on infrastructure. By analyzing regional variations in wildfire hotspots, this study aims to provide a preliminary assessment of wildfire risks to distribution networks and offer insights into potential mitigation strategies. The study results are valuable for policymakers, utility companies, and emergency management agencies as they seek to strengthen the resilience of Thailand's electricity distribution system in the face of increasing wildfire threats. © 2024 IEEE.

The high voltage capacitor bank is a critical component in substations, essential for maintaining power quality and system stability. However, these banks are susceptible to faults and inrush currents, posing significant operational challenges. This paper presents a method for accurately classifying fault and inrush currents in high voltage capacitor banks using Fuzzy Logic and Discrete Wavelet Transform (DWT). The DWT decomposes current waveforms into frequency components, enabling the extraction of features that characterize faults and inrush currents. These features are processed by a Fuzzy Inference System (FIS), which classifies the events based on predefined rules and membership functions. The integration of DWT and FIS provides a robust framework for distinguishing between different types of faults and inrush currents with high accuracy. Simulation results demonstrate the proposed method's efficacy, showing improved performance in classification accuracy and noise robustness compared to traditional techniques. This research enhances monitoring and protection systems in power networks, ensuring more reliable operation of high voltage capacitor banks. Implementing this method allows for better fault management and minimized downtime, leading to improved overall system efficiency and stability. © 2024 IEEE.

Evaluation phase which was partial fulfilment of the beginning phase of "Development of Performance test rig and Efficiency improvement of impeller in Thai irrigation pump project" is presented in this paper. Overall flow field in the pump system that consisted of inlet, impeller and stator vane of the available pump was analyzed using commercial Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) code. The goal of this investigation is to obtain more understanding of energy dissipation which results from shear stress that developed within the flow field in each section of the pump. The improvement measure is then conducted with the concern of manufacturing difficulties. High dissipation flow structure was observed around the impeller outlet. Jet-wake and recirculation flow were observed. The first improvement measure was conducted by adding the bluff body in the flow channel to alleviate jet-wake structure and delay flow separation. After the implementation of the optimized bluff body around the impeller exit, CFD results indicated around 3-8% improvement compared with the CFD results of the available pump for the entire range of operating conditions. © 2022 River Publishers.
