Researching and mastering the cooling airflow characters of tank are essential precondition for rationally optimizing cooling system and designing engine device, transmission device. It is of great importance to investigate cooling airflow characters in promoting the designing and developing of tank engine compartment. In this paper, a proper signal processing method was put forward according to the fluctuated characters of cooling airflow signals which we collected in the tank tests. Then we could see from the processed signals that the alteration of air pressure had good corresponding with the alteration of the cooling fan, and obviously we got the better restored signals. The rationality and validity of the proposed signal processing method were verified. There was detailed description in the paper about the method and the verification. As a result, the proposed method was applicable to tank cooling airflow signal processing.

In this paper, a novel fault-tolerant control scheme is proposed for a class of uncertain switched systems with time-delay. The mathematical model of actuator which fault is established. Our attention is focused on the design of a sliding mode fault-tolerant controller, which guarantees the system to be asymptotically stable and has a H∞ disturbance attenuation performance in the case of actuator failure. Sufficient conditions for the existence of a desired sliding mode controller are established in terms of linear matrix inequalities (LMIs), and the corresponding sliding mode controller is designed. Simulation results verify the validity and feasibility of the proposed fault-tolerant control strategy. © 2016 SERSC.

When teachers are surfing the Web to search suitable learning material for their courses it would be very important that web resources were characterized to restrict the scope of the search. Hence, it arises the need of finding characterizing properties for learning materials. This paper proposes an initial reflection on this issue. We exploit the huge potential of the MOOC, in particular Coursera, to discover new educational information that might characterize material of MOOCs. This goal is achieved by means of data mining techniques. Two types of features about resources have been discovered: teaching context and resource attributes. The resulting knowledge can be very helpful for a more accurate recommendation of resources to the particular teaching context of an instructor, as well as improving the creation and arrangement of learning activities. © Springer International Publishing AG 2017.

A novel experimental scheme for real time measurement of aluminum oxide film during anodization was developed for the first time. The scheme was established based on a combination of a fiber optic sensor of Fabry-Pérot interferometry and direct current (DC) electrochemical methods. The scheme was assembled in a way to simultaneously anodize the aluminum samples and to measure the thickness of the aluminum oxide film. The anodization process of aluminum sample was carried out in 2% sulfuric acid (H2SO4) solution by the DC methods at room temperature. The estimated thickness of the aluminum oxide film by the novel scheme was verified by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and holographic interferometry. This study shows that real time measurement of the thickness of aluminum oxide film by Fabry-Pérot interferometry (2.136µm) is feasible as it closely matched the thickness determined by SEM (2.1µm). The obtained values of the resistance by Fabry-Pérot interferometer (2.4 x109 Ohms) and by holographic interferometry (2.54x109 Ohms) were found twice the obtained value of the resistance by EIS (1.25x109 Ohms).

Cognitive radio adaptation for power consumption minimization using biogeography-based optimization

Adaptation is one of the key capabilities of cognitive radio, which focuses on how to adjust the radio parameters to optimize the system performance based on the knowledge of the radio environment and its capability and characteristics. In this paper, we consider the cognitive radio adaptation problem for power consumption minimization. The problem is formulated as a constrained power consumption minimization problem, and the biogeography-based optimization （BBO） is introduced to solve this optimization problem. A novel habitat suitability index （HSI） evaluation mechanism is proposed, in which both the power consumption minimization objective and the quality of services （QoS） constraints are taken into account. The results show that under different QoS requirement settings corresponding to different types of services, the algorithm can minimize power consumption while still maintaining the QoS requirements. Comparison with particle swarm optimization （PSO） and cat swarm optimization （CSO） reveals that BBO works better, especially at the early stage of the search, which means that the BBO is a better choice for real-time applications.

Background: Decades of steady improvements in life expectancy in Europe slowed down from around 2011, well before the COVID-19 pandemic, for reasons which remain disputed. We aimed to assess how changes in risk factors and cause-specific death rates in different European countries related to changes in life expectancy in those countries before and during the COVID-19 pandemic. Methods: We used data and methods from the Global Burden of Diseases, Injuries, and Risk Factors Study 2021 to compare changes in life expectancy at birth, causes of death, and population exposure to risk factors in 16 European Economic Area countries (Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Spain, and Sweden) and the four UK nations (England, Northern Ireland, Scotland, and Wales) for three time periods: 1990–2011, 2011–19, and 2019–21. Changes in life expectancy and causes of death were estimated with an established life expectancy cause-specific decomposition method, and compared with summary exposure values of risk factors for the major causes of death influencing life expectancy. Findings: All countries showed mean annual improvements in life expectancy in both 1990–2011 (overall mean 0·23 years [95% uncertainty interval [UI] 0·23 to 0·24]) and 2011–19 (overall mean 0·15 years [0·13 to 0·16]). The rate of improvement was lower in 2011–19 than in 1990–2011 in all countries except for Norway, where the mean annual increase in life expectancy rose from 0·21 years (95% UI 0·20 to 0·22) in 1990–2011 to 0·23 years (0·21 to 0·26) in 2011–19 (difference of 0·03 years). In other countries, the difference in mean annual improvement between these periods ranged from –0·01 years in Iceland (0·19 years [95% UI 0·16 to 0·21] vs 0·18 years [0·09 to 0·26]), to –0·18 years in England (0·25 years [0·24 to 0·25] vs 0·07 years [0·06 to 0·08]). Due to the special transportation and heat transfer characteristics,the fractal-like Y-shape branching tube is used in valveless piezoelectric pumps as a no-moving-part ***,there have been little analyses on the flow resistance of the valveless piezoelectric pump,which is critical to the performance of the valveless piezoelectric pump with fractal-like Y-shape branching *** field of the piezoelectric pump is analyzed by the finite element method,and the pattern of the velocity streamlines is revealed,which can well explain the difference of total flow resistances of the piezoelectric ***,simplified numerical method is employed to calculate the export flow rate of piezoelectric pump,and the flow field of the piezoelectric pump is *** FEM computation shows that the maximum flow rate is 16.4 m L/*** with experimental result,the difference between them is just 55.5%,which verifies the FEM *** reasons of the difference between dividing and merging flow resistance of the valveless piezoelectric pump with fractal-like Y-shape branching tubes are also investigated in this *** proposed research provides the instruction to design of novel piezoelectric pump and a rapid method to analyse the pump flow rate.

Depth maps obtained by RGB-D cameras such as ZED are noisy, and there are invalid areas where depth values absent in the maps, which will affect the subsequent improved processing. This paper investigates the restoration and optimization of degraded depth image method based on RGBD data captured by ZED by means of selective filtering and conditional auto-regressive model with edge constraints. Firstly, we divide invalid areas into two categories, including the internal invalid areas caused by reflection and invalid edge caused by occlusion. Then, we use corresponding median filter and mean filter in the different selective areas to obtain the initial restored depth map with no empty area. The edges of objects contain massive information, therefore, an adaptive auto-regressive (AR) model is used to further optimize the depth of the edge area. Additionally, we add the edge information to the sampled image to maintain local detail. Experiments show that with the proposed method we can recover the depth data with high accuracy and effectiveness.

In Part I of this paper, we proposed and analyzed a novel algorithmic framework for the minimization of a nonconvex objective function, subject to nonconvex constraints, based on inner convex approximations. This Part II is devoted to the (nontrivial) application of the framework to the following relevant large-scale problems ranging from communications to machine learning: 1) (generalizations of) the rate profile maximization in MIMO interference broadcast networks; 2) the max-min fair multicast multigroup beamforming problem in a multicell environment; and 3) a general nonconvex constrained bi-criteria formulation for k-sparse variable selection in statistical learning; the two criteria are a nonconvex loss objective function, measuring the fitness of the model to data, and the latter is a nonconvex sparsity-inducing constraint in the general form of difference-of-convex (DC) functions, which allows to accomodate in a unified fashion convex and nonconvex surrogates of the 0function. The proposed algorithms outperform current state-of-the-art schemes for 1)-3) both theoretically and numerically. For instance, they are the first distributed schemes for the class of problems 1) and 2); and they also lead to subproblems enjoying closed form solutions. © 2016 IEEE.

In cellular systems, the combination of Device-to- Device (D2D) communication and relaying is an efficient means for improving network coverage and transmissions quality without additional infrastructure deployment. It enables communication between user pairs in situations when both their direct D2D transmission and the traditional communication via the base station experience poor channel quality. In this paper, we propose a joint relaying-operation selection and power-allocation scheme, herein called HyD2D, for relay-assisted D2D communication in Rician fading environment. The target is to choose the set of communication links that minimizes the power consumption, while ensuring a minimum success probability. To overcome the nonconvexity of the outage probability constraints under Rician fading, we use the concept of coherent-measure- of-risk from the field of finance. We therefore obtain a linear programming formulation that we can efficiently solve. Simulations show that HyD2D selects the most energy- efficient relaying operation that satisfies the success probability requirement, while leveraging only statistical channel state information. © 2017 IEEE.
