Recycling qubits for the generation of Bell nonlocality between independent sequential observers

There is currently much interest in the recycling of entangled systems, for use in quantum information protocols by sequential observers. In this work, we study the sequential generation of Bell nonlocality via recycling one or both components of two-qubit states. We first give a description of two-valued qubit measurements in terms of measurement bias, strength, and reversibility, and derive useful tradeoff relations between them. Then, we derive one-sided monogamy relations for unbiased observables that strengthen the recent conjecture by Cheng et al. [Phys. Rev. A 104, L060201 (2021)] that if the first pair of observers violate Bell nonlocality then a subsequent independent pair cannot, and give semianalytic results for the best possible monogamy relation. We also extend the construction by Brown and Colbeck [Phys. Rev. Lett. 125, 090401 (2020)] to obtain (i) a broader class of two-qubit states that allow the recycling of one qubit by a given number of observers on one side and (ii) a scheme for generating Bell nonlocality between arbitrarily many independent observers on each side, via the two-sided recycling of multiqubit states. Our results are based on a formalism that is applicable to more general problems in recycling entanglement and hence is expected to aid progress in this field.

EmotionBox: a music-element-driven emotional music generation system using Recurrent Neural Network

With the development of deep neural networks, automatic music composition has made great progress. Although emotional music can evoke listeners’ different emotions and it is important for artistic expression, only few researches have focused on generating emotional music. This paper presents EmotionBox -an music-element-driven emotional music generator that is capable of composing music given a specific emotion, where this model does not require a music dataset labeled with emotions. Instead, pitch histogram and note density are extracted as features that represent mode and tempo respectively to control music emotions. The subjective listening tests show that the Emotionbox has a more competitive and balanced performance in arousing a specified emotion than the emotion-label-based method. It is important for the dulcimer robot to obtain the spatial coordinates of the dulcimer phonemes. However, the traditional manual positioning method is both inefficient and does not meet the intelligence requirements of modern robot. A visual positioning method based on improved Roberts operator is proposed in this paper on account of solving these problems, which can obtain the 3D coordinates of the dulcimer keys in a short time. First, an improved Roberts edge detection operator is designed, which fully detects the edge information of the target by transforming the scale. Further, this paper proposes a dulcimer keys positioning method by fusing RGB and depth image information. This method has a better positioning effect for dulcimer keys with complex background and small size. The experimental results show that the visual positioning method proposed in this paper can effectively identify and locate the dulcimer keys, and it has better robustness to the lighting environment.

Recently, passive unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) localization has become popular due to mobility and convenience. In this paper, we consider a scenario of using distributed drone cluster to estimate the position of a passive emitter via received signal strength (RSS). First, a distributed majorizeminimization (DMM) RSS-based localization method is proposed. To accelerate its convergence, a tight upper bound of the objective function from the primary one is derived. Furthermore, to reduce communication overhead, a distributed estimation scheme using the Fisher information matrix (DEF) is presented, with only requiring one-round communication between edge UAVs and center UAV. Additionally, a local search solution is used as the initial value of DEF. Simulation results show that the proposed DMM performs better than the existing distributed Gauss-Newton method (DGN) in terms of root of mean square error (RMSE) under a limited low communication overhead constraint. Moreover, the proposed DEF performs much better than MM in terms of RMSE, but has a higher computational complexity than the latter. Copyright © 2021, The Authors. All rights reserved.

pH value plays a vital role in biochemical analysis. To achieve online analysis, a new type of fluorescent fiber sensor has been developed for real-time, wide-range pH monitoring in biological and environmental fluids. The fluorescent fiber pH sensor was facilely created by immobilizing orange-emitting silicon quantum dots onto a tapered fiber probe through a photoinduced hydrogel polymerization technique. The sensor displays a specific response to pH variations, covering an extensive dynamic range from pH 3.0 to 12.0 with a resolution of 0.06/pH. Additionally, the sensor exhibited remarkable stability, repeatability, robustness, and reversibility. Especially, its high stability to ion strength and temperature fluctuations ensures reliable performance across various physiological and physical conditions. Furthermore, successful implementations of this sensor in detecting pH levels in real serum, artificial sweat and seawater samples further validate its accuracy, practicality and versatility. Overall, this sensor offers a practical and versatile tool for sensitive, real-time pH sensing in complex fluid environments, with great potential across multiple fields.

With the rapid proliferation of smart devices in wireless networks, more powerful technologies are expected to fulfill the network requirements of high throughput, massive connectivity, and diversify quality of service. To this end, rate splitting multiple access (RSMA) is proposed as a promising solution to improve spectral efficiency and provide better fairness for the next-generation mobile networks. In this paper, the outage performance of uplink RSMA transmission with randomly deployed users is investigated, taking both user scheduling schemes and power allocation strategies into consideration. Specifically, the greedy user scheduling (GUS) and cumulative distribution function (CDF) based user scheduling (CUS) schemes are considered, which could maximize the rate performance and guarantee scheduling fairness, respectively. Meanwhile, we re-investigate cognitive power allocation (CPA) strategy, and propose a new rate fairness-oriented power allocation (FPA) strategy to enhance the scheduled users' rate fairness. By employing order statistics and stochastic geometry, an analytical expression of the outage probability for each scheduling scheme combining power allocation is derived to characterize the performance. To get more insights, the achieved diversity order of each scheme is also derived. Theoretical results demonstrate that both GUS and CUS schemes applying CPA or FPA strategy can achieve full diversity orders, and the application of CPA strategy in RSMA can effectively eliminate the secondary user's diversity order constraint from the primary user. Simulation results corroborate the accuracy of the analytical expressions, and show that the proposed FPA strategy can achieve excellent rate fairness performance in high signal-to-noise ratio region. Recursive identification of structured multivariate models is known to be difficult due to the general non-convexity of the likelihood function. In this work, we propose a recursive multivariate weighted null-space fitting method for identification of structured multivariate models. The proposed method first uses recursive least squares to estimate a high order non-parametric model, then a parametric model is obtained through weighted least squares from the non-parametric model. In this way, the method avoids directly optimizing a non-convex likelihood function and has guaranteed global convergency. Moreover, the proposed method is flexible in model structures and has the same finite sample performance as its off-line counterpart. We use simulation examples to illustrate the performance.

Quantum process tomography (QPT) is a critical task for characterizing the dynamics of quantum systems and achieving precise quantum control. In this paper, we propose an effective two-stage solution (TSS) for QPT in the natural basis. Our algorithm has O(d 6 ) computational complexity where d is the dimension of the quantum system. We establish an error bound $O\left( {\frac{{{d^5}}}{{\sqrt N }}} \right)$ where N is the copy number for each output state. The numerical examples compared with a convex optimization algorithm demonstrate the effectiveness of our algorithm.

This paper focuses on the tracking control problem for switched nonlinear ship maneuvering time-delay systems with only a heading angle available by adaptive neural network (NN) output feedback. Using the backstepping method, an adaptive NN control mechanism is designed to solve the problem cooperated with the state observer. The uncertain terms of the system are approximated by NNs, and the state observer is designed to estimate the yaw rate and rudder angle. The unknown time delays are overcome by exploiting the common Lyapunov-Krasovskii functionals (CLKFs). Combined with error transformation, the proposed control method guarantees that i) all of the signals for the system are semi-global uniformly ultimately boundedness (SGUUB) under arbitrary switching; and, ii) the tracking error of system output keeps within a small neighborhood around the origin. The results of simulation results are shown to demonstrate the feasibility of the control strategy.

With the rapid development of intelligent image processing and computer vision, interpreting and extracting emotion information from images have become a hot research topic, especially the studies on film and television scene images with rich expressions and certain feelings from the aspect of audience. To investigate the distribution of emotions and its affect on the result of machine learning, this paper established the emotion classification models with different salient and non-salient regions based on self-built dataset from film and television works. Three salient extraction algorithms were used to the regional segmentation, and the color and texture features of each region were extracted. Emotion classification models were established based on SVM and RF algorithms respectively. Since features of the salient region could not cover all the information of the original image, the prediction accuracy of the unprocessed image was the highest. Nevertheless, when models made an error in the emotion prediction of the original image, the experimental results of salient region could get the correct answer under the certain circumstances. Through the analysis, the areas of interest can be used for emotion prediction to reduce the redundancy; however, to make it more accurate, the appropriate salient region extraction algorithm should be selected for different types of images and features. Our study provides data and theoretical guidance for image understanding and retrieval, and it has practical significance for more detailed classification based on the affective sensation.
