Power systems are leading towards a transition with the involvement of a huge number of distributed energy resources to produce clean energy. Different concerns including energy crisis, polluted environment due to carbon emission, and economic issues have produced the urge in passive consumers to act as prosumers by installing distributed energy resources and with the use of information and communication technologies, the grid has become more reliable as smart grid. Energy generated from these distributed energy resources along with the use of energy storage systems provide saving to prosumers. In this study, we have focused on the impact of rooftop solar panels, energy storage system, and exchange of power with the grid and consumer through the use of energy management system to exchange information by end-users. This shows significant savings to the prosumer and consumer in term of the cost when the locally generated power is used. Prosumer can trade with the grid, consumer, and uses self-generated power to reduce the operational cost.

Deep visual odometry with adaptive memory

We propose a novel deep visual odometry (VO) method that considers global information by selecting memory and refining poses. Existing learning-based methods take the VO task as a pure tracking problem via recovering camera poses from image snippets, leading to severe error accumulation. Global information is crucial for alleviating accumulated errors. However, it is challenging to effectively preserve such information for end-to-end systems. To deal with this challenge, we design an adaptive memory module, which progressively and adaptively saves the information from local to global in a neural analogue of memory, enabling our system to process long-term dependency. Benefiting from global information in the memory, previous results are further refined by an additional refining module. With the guidance of previous outputs, we adopt a spatial-temporal attention to select features for each view based on the co-visibility in feature domain. Specifically, our architecture consisting of Tracking, Remembering and Refining modules works beyond tracking. Experiments on the KITTI and TUM-RGBD datasets demonstrate that our approach outperforms state-of-the-art methods by large margins and produces competitive results against classic approaches in regular scenes. Moreover, our model achieves outstanding performance in challenging scenarios such as texture-less regions and abrupt motions, where classic algorithms tend to fail. Copyright © 2020, The Authors. Because of the control method of permanent magnet motor in a lower limb rehabilitation equipment, the research is carried out based on the CSBP Neural Network to Optimize PID controller Parameters for better control performance of the motor to obtain a more stable control process. From the characteristics of lower limb rehabilitation training can be seen that the speed loop proportional integral (PID) control model is introduced and by using the CSBP neural network the parameters of Kp, Ki, Kd of the PID controller are optimized, which process are carried out calculation under the MATLAB/Simulink. The results show that the output curves of the PID controller after CSBP, which concluded that the optimized controller model could quickly and adaptively adjust PID parameters, and the control effect is obviously better than traditional PID controller.

Aimed at obvious interference noise of shadow images of bullet shot in outside field, and larger extraction error of bullet attitude features of shadow images and other problems, intersection point location method based on axis line and edge is adopted to extract features of bullet tip, and the method based on ellipse fitting is adopted to extract features of bullet tail in the Paper, and then extracted feature information is used to calculate motion attitude of bullets. The method can be applied to shadow image analysis of bullets under field environment well with accurate feature extraction, good consistency and high analysis precision and other features. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

Multi-functional tactile sensors, capable of measuring multi-physical quantities in a limited space by one structure, have aroused great research interest. This paper proposes a monostable dome-shaped sensor for the simultaneous measurement of the stiffness and surface potential of the object at the same position. In the proposed sensor, the top electrode is a flexible spherical stainless steel dome, and the bottom electrode is a circular sheet covered with an electret film, providing a bias electric field. Output Voltages between two electrodes are generated because of the electrostatic effect, and resulting waveforms can be measured as the proposed sensor contacts and releases the object. While the proposed sensor approaches the object, the surface potential of the object determines the voltage waveform. After contacting the object, the voltage waveform indicates a direct comparison of stiffness between the object and top electrode, based on the monostable buckling of the dome. Here, we present theoretical and experimental relationships between measured voltages obtained from the proposed sensor and a charged electret film on the surface of the object. The proposed sensor makes it possible to measure the stiffness and surface potential of the object using voltage waveforms.

Some exiting works have explored the promotion between depth estimation and semantic segmentation. These works are usually based on convolutional neural networks, which extract compact features and map the relationship between input and output according to specific tasks. In this paper, we introduce a novel adversarial training strategy, that is, generator produces the semantic segmentation map and depth map, and then the discriminator can judge the authenticity of the synthesized color image, thereby supervising the output of the network during back propagation. We use the adversarial loss combined with the reconstruction loss function to supervise the model, and find that the adversarial loss function which is seen as a global supervision can further optimize the output. We use 200 color images from Kitti dataset with semantic segmentation ground truth as the training set, and train the network in an end-to-end manner. The experimental results show that the adversarial training method is well applied to the multi-task training combining semantic segmentation and depth estimation, and can further improve the quantitative performance of depth estimation.

In view of the problems of low equipment integration, difficult equipment operation, and high technical threshold existing in the current stage visual effect linkage control system, a highly integrated linkage control system for stage visual effect equipment, which is suitable for small and medium-sized performance venues, is proposed in this paper. This system can control the stage lighting and the playback of multi-channel and multi-format media content, and it is easy to control. The design scheme of the system is described in detail, and the feasibility of the system is verified through tests in this paper.

Pro-UIGAN: Progressive Face Hallucination from Occluded Thumbnails

In this paper, we study the task of hallucinating an authentic high-resolution (HR) face from an occluded thumbnail. We propose a multi-stage Progressive Upsampling and Inpainting Generative Adversarial Network, dubbed Pro-UIGAN, which exploits facial geometry priors to replenish and upsample (8×) the occluded and tiny faces (16×16 pixels). Pro-UIGAN iteratively (1) estimates facial geometry priors for low-resolution (LR) faces and (2) acquires non-occluded HR face images under the guidance of the estimated priors. Our multi-stage hallucination network upsamples and inpaints occluded LR faces via a coarse-to-fine fashion, significantly reducing undesirable artifacts and blurriness. Specifically, we design a novel cross-modal attention module for facial priors estimation, in which an input face and its landmark features are formulated as queries and keys, respectively. Such a design encourages joint feature learning across the input facial and landmark features, and deep feature correspondences will be discovered by attention. Thus, facial appearance features and facial geometry priors are learned in a mutually beneficial manner. Extensive experiments show that our Pro-UIGAN attains visually pleasing completed HR faces, thus facilitating downstream tasks, i.e., face alignment, face parsing, face recognition as well as expression classification. This paper deals with the robust joint design of a radar transmit waveform and receive filter bank in a background of range unambiguous signal-dependent clutter. Assuming an unknown Doppler shift for the target, the worst-case signal-to-interference-plus-noise-ratio (SINR) at the output of the receive filter bank is considered as the figure of merit. The transceiver design is pursued considering a max-min optimization problem with some constraints on the transmit energy, similarity, and signal dynamic range. Hidden convexity is shown and a procedure to derive optimal waveform and filters is given. Simulation results highlight the effectiveness of the devised method.

Fault diagnosis of rotating machinery plays an important role for the reliability and safety of modern industrial systems, and it is challenging to detect the weak character signal in the noisy background. This article presents an improved resonance sparse decomposition method for fault diagnosis of rolling bearings. The PSO algorithm is used to optimise the quality factor of the resonance sparse decomposition, which can overcome the deficiency caused by the manual given quality factor in the traditional resonance sparse decomposition method and achieve the effective separation of resonance components. An envelope analysis of the low-resonance decomposition including the major fault components was performed to extract the fault feature frequency. Based on this, the two decomposition methods are applied to the fault diagnosis of the inner and outer rings of the bearing, respectively. The experimental results show that the improved resonance sparse decomposition method can reduce the interference components when extracting the frequency of fault features and improve the accuracy of fault diagnosis. © 2019 Institution of engineering and technology.
