This paper introduces mainly the structures and the functions of the instrument for analyzing rapidly soil composition based on spectral measuring techniques. This measuring system can be used to measure soil spectral properties with a response range from 400 to 2900nm. The main technical problems emphasized on measuring accuracy and stability of system were solved. On the basis of these, we studies the reflective spectrum of soil moisture and evaluates primarily the repeatability and stability of the system in the practical measuring. The testing results show that the system has good qualities of stability and easy operation. © 2011 IEEE.

Accidentally drop induced board level intercom-nects break has become one of the most important failure modes for portable electronic products. Board level drop impact test is widely used to evaluate the mechanical shock reliability of electronic assembly interconnects. In this paper, PCB responses during drop impact and vibration shock are compared using strain measurements. The loading similarities and differences of two mechanical shock tests are analyzed. The possibility and limitation of using vibration method for evaluating drop impact reliability are discussed. Results show that vibration test could be a replacement or supplement for drop test for single mode dominating situation. Vibration shock could produce similar loading amplitude and frequency to that of drop impact by adjusting to appropriate vibration parameters,. Compared with drop tests, vibration test provide better repeatability, easier operability. However, loading similarities between two methods only appear at impact locations dominated by single mode. For the locations with different modes superimposition, vibration shock cannot produce desirable loading as drop impact. © 2011 IEEE.

Simulation method for three-dimensional atmospheric turbulence in virtual test

Atmospheric turbulence is an important issue for successful flight in aeronautical experimentation. In the virtual test of aircraft, building a three-dimensional atmospheric turbulence field (3D-ATF) is necessary for integral simulation. Most classical methods which were based on building one-dimensional atmospheric turbulence simulation do not suit simulating the 3D-ATF. And several existing 3D-ATF simulation methods were not applicable in a large 3D space. This paper that addresses these problems proposes a new method for generating 3D-ATF based on the correlation function. The recursive formulae for the generation of 3D-ATF are deduced based on the self-correlation function and one step correlation function, and the original 3D-ATF is obtained. To achieve the good statistical characteristic the original 3D-ATF is optimized by the twice filtering. The new method is applied to build a 400 × 400 × 400 atmospheric turbulence field. Simulation results indicate that the relativity of 3D-ATF based on the correlation function method is near to the theoretic value. And the relativity of the 3D-ATF optimized by filtering performs the better fitting characteristics to the theoretic value. Consequently, the proposed simulation method is effective for building 3D-ATF in virtual test of aircraft. Copyright © 2011 Binary Information Press.

This paper describes the principle of positioning and the system composition of the GPS-RTK satellite positioning technology, introduces the application of this technology in positioning construction of steel casing and steel pipe, super large steel suspended-box of Sutong bridge and its application in mesurement of underwater landform. These applications verified many superiorities such as: high accurancy of mesurement, good reliability of data, rapid positioning, few operators, all weather operationing, etc., it's applicable for construction measurement of bridge engineering. © 2011 IEEE.

In order to obtain a forecast model for product design time from a small data set, Gaussian Margin Regression (GMR) is presented on the basis of combining Gaussian Margin Machines and kernel based regression. Gaussian Margin Regression maintains a Gaussian distribution over weight vectors for kernel based regression. The algorithm is applied to seeking the least information distribution that will make actual value be included in the confidential interval with high probability, and embedded genetic algorithm is presented for choosing its relevant parameters. The results of application in injection mold designs reveal that the time forecast model based on GMR is of feasibility and validity. © 2011 IEEE.

The effect of competition on heart rate during kart driving: A field study

Background: Both the act of competing, which can create a kind of mental stress, and participation in motor sports, which induces physical stress from intense g-forces, are known to increase heart rate dramatically. However, little is known about the specific effect of competition on heart rate during motor sports, particularly during four-wheel car driving. The goal of this preliminary study, therefore, was to investigate whether competition increases heart rate under such situations. Findings. The participants drove an entry-level formula kart during two competitive races and during solo driving against the clock while heart rate and g-forces were measured. Analyses showed that heart rate values during the races (168.8 beats/min) were significantly higher than those during solo driving (140.9 beats/min) and rest (75.1 beats/min). Conclusions: The results of this preliminary study indicate that competition heightens heart rate during four-wheel car driving. Kart drivers should be concerned about maintaining good health and developing physical strength. © 2011Matsumura et al;licensee BioMed Central Ltd.

Authentication technology based on geometric characteristics of hand image has the advantages of high speed and easy operation. So handkey becomes another biological characteristics authentication system as fingerprint key. Palm image preprocessing is the basic of hand shape recognition system. Denoising is a necessary preprocessing before edge detection of palm image. The paper introduces a denoising method, wavelet modulus maximum value method. The wavelet transforming has the advantage of multi-resolution either in time domain or in frequency domain, so it can be used to describe the partial characteristics in the both domain. Wavelet denoising is a more successful kind of application of wavelet transforming. Because of the multi-resolution of wavelet, the non-steady characteristics of signals can be described better. The principle and processing steps of the algorithm are described in this paper in details. Experiments show that the method not only can remove noise effectively, but also keeps edge details of the hand image. The preprocessing program designed in MATLAB is listed in the paper, the original hand image and edge detect image after wavelet denoising are shown, too. © 2011 IEEE.
