Fabrication and Performance Investigation of Karma Alloy Thin Film Strain Gauge

Karma alloy thin film strain gauges were fabricated on alumina substrates by magnetron sputtering. The electrical properties of strain gauges annealed at different temperatures were then tested. The surface morphology and phase structure of the Karma alloy thin films were analyzed using X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy. The effect of the annealing temperature on the performance of the Karma alloy thin film strain gauge was also investigated. As the annealing temperature increased, it was found that the resistivity of the thin films decreased, whereas the temperature coefficient of resistance (TCR) of the thin films increased. A Karma alloy thin film strain gauge was annealed at 200 °C, thereby obtaining a gauge factor of 1.7 and a corresponding TCR of 64.8 × 10−6 K−1. The prepared Karma alloy thin film strain gauge had a lower TCR than other strain gauges at room temperature. This result can provide a reference for the preparation and application of Karma alloy thin film strain gauges in specific scenarios.

Deep self-organizing map neural networks for plantar pressure image segmentation employing marr-hildreth features

Using the plantar pressure imaging analysis method to realize the optimization design of shoe last is still relatively preliminary. The analysis and utilization of imaging data still have problems such as single processing, incomplete information acquisition, and poor processing model robustness. A deep self-organizing map neural network based on Marr-Hildreth filter (dSOM-wh) is developed in this research. The structure and learning algorithms were optimized by learning vector quantization (LVQ) and count propagation (CP). As a kind of Marr-Hildreth filter, Laplacian of Gaussian (LoG) was developed for the preprocessing. The proposed method performed high effectiveness in accuracy (AC) (92.88%), sensitive (SE) (0.8941), and f-measurement (F1) (0.8720) by comparing with ANN, CNN, SegNet, ResNet, and pre-trained inception-v neural networks. Induction heating is widely used in industrial furnaces because of its rapid response time and high energy efficiency. To design and optimize these furnaces, computer-aided simulations are essential. This study aims to develop an accurate temperature field model for a square cross-section steel billet in an induction furnace by leveraging various parameters in COMSOL Multiphysics software. The simulation analysis incorporated temperature dynamics, considering skin depth, temperaturedependent, and constant parameters of the steel billet. The datadriven model was converted into a state-space representation utilizing MATLAB's System Identification Toolbox. This conversion facilitated the design of a Linear Quadratic Regulator (LQR) with integral gain and pole placement. Further, these controllers' performance was analyzed, and controllers were successfully implemented to regulate the temperature field of the billet from initial temperature to reference temperature, utilizing the distributed parameter system control circuit.

Aiming at the shortcomings of the current image-based fault identification algorithm for hydropower station equipment, such as low efficiency and poor accuracy, an improved image matching algorithm based on AKAZE, T-AKAZE was proposed. In this paper, AKAZE algorithm is firstly used to obtain image feature points. Then, the improved algorithm T-AKAZE is used for coarse matching of feature points. On the basis of Tanimoto coarse matching, RANSAC algorithm is used for fine matching to improve the algorithm accuracy. In order to verify the matching effect of the improved algorithm, ORB algorithm, AKAZE algorithm and ORB+Tanimoto algorithm were compared and analyzed. The experimental results show that the proposed algorithm has good robustness for image matching of different scales and similarity, and its timeliness also meets the application requirements, which provides convenience for the staff to identify the fault of hydropower station equipment. © Content from this work may be used under the terms of the Creative Commons Attribution 3.0 Licence.

In space communications, the signal suffers a long-distance transmission and a high dynamic movement. The long-distance transmission causes a very low signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and the high dynamic movement causes a high-accelerating Doppler-shift. To address the low SNR, the conventional strategy is long-time accumulation. However, during the long-time accumulation period, the high-accelerating Doppler-shift brings about the serious energy dispersion problem. In this paper, we propose one joint-comb-acquisition (JCA) scheme to address the energy dispersion problem. The proposed JCA scheme, which uses multiple accumulation periods to jointly construct a narrower comb-search-range, excludes most noise elements. Also, the theoretical analysis derives the closed-form expression for acquisition probability. Moreover, the simulation results demonstrate the significant increase of acquisition probability varies from 4.6 to 47.2 percents, as compared with the existing schemes.

The popularity of vehicles based on electricity is increasing as they are considered a sustainable mode of transportation. The charging infrastructure for electric vehicles are suffering various issues. There are limited availability of public charging stations, the high costs associated with installing private charging stations, and the high variability of electricity prices. The peer-to-peer (P2P) energy stability will be seen as a potential solution to facilitate electric vehicle (EV) charging in a manner that is both cost-effective and environmentally sustainable. The paper presents a novel system energy trading and charging payment for electric vehicles (EVs). The desired system enables EV owners to exchange surplus electricity with other EV owners in their location. The system being proposed utilizes blockchain technology to guarantee secure and transparent transactions. Additionally, it incorporates a smart contract to automate the trading and charging process. The system utilizes a dynamic pricing mechanism that adjusts in real-time to reflect the current electricity prices. This feature is designed to encourage electric vehicle owners to engage in energy stabilization during maximum usage hours. The Optimistic results shows that the described system has the efficacy on minimising the cost of vehicle charging and to decrease peak demand on the grid. Additionally, the system encourages the utilization of renewable energy sources. © 2023 IEEE.

A Fair and Effective Approach to Managing Distributed Energy Resources Through Peer-to-Peer Energy Trading with Load Prioritization Among Smart Homes

This paper proposes a novel approach to managing distributed energy resources (DERs) through peer-to-peer (P2P) energy trading among smart homes, incentivizing peers to trade surplus energy to maximize social welfare. The proposed day-ahead demand-side management (DSM) technique considers load prioritization based on users' needs. It utilizes an energy allocation method that incentivizes peers to buy energy at a reduced price and sell energy at a higher price. This method maximizes the time of energy traded to higher-priority loads, followed by lower-priority loads while considering user choice. The proposed method results in an average reduction in energy costs from 14.8% to 2.82% for all consumers and an average increase in revenues from 17.35% to 9.07% for all prosumers compared to the grid and previously proposed studies. The simulation results show significant economic benefits for all market participants, improved community self-sufficiency, and reduced dependence on the main grid. The proposed methodology provides an effective and fair solution for managing DERs through P2P energy trading by prioritizing the load in smart homes, which describes its potential to create a sustainable and efficient energy ecosystem. © 2023, The Authors. Different with conventional reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS), simultaneous transmitting and reflecting RIS (STAR-RIS) can reflect and transmit the signals to the receiver. In this paper, to serve more ground users and increase the deployment flexibility, we investigate an unmanned aerial vehicle equipped with a STAR-RIS (STAR-RIS-UAV) aided wireless communications for multi-user networks. Energy splitting (ES) and mode switching (MS) protocols are considered to control the reflection and transmission coefficients of STAR-RIS elements. To maximize the sum rate of the STAR-RIS-UAV aided coordinated multipoint cellular system for multi-user networks, the corresponding beamforming vectors as well as transmitted and reflected coefficients matrices are optimized. Specifically, instead of adopting the alternating optimization, we design an iteration method to optimize all variables for both ES and MS protocols at the same time. Simulation results reveal that STAR-RIS-UAV aided wireless communication system has a much higher sum rate than the system with conventional RIS or without RIS. Furthermore, the proposed structure is more flexible than a fixed STAR-RIS and could greatly promote the sum rate. Copyright © 2023, The Authors. All rights reserved.
