Orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) is very sensitive to frequency offset. Although the existence of integer frequency offset in OFDM will not destroy the orthogonality between subcarriers, it will cause a cyclic shift of the frequency domain data after FFT transformation at the receiving end, which will affect the demodulation of data. In this paper, we propose a novel integer frequency offset estimation method based on the similarity property of adjacent subcarriers of the preamble. This method not only guarantees the original accuracy and performance of the conventional method but also achieves less resource consumption and lower computational complexity.

In multi-agent systems, agents are inclined to form coalitions to improve individual performance and perform tasks more efficiently. However, the most existing researches assume that the desired outcome is a coalition structure that consists of disjoint coalitions where every agent that has joined a coalition is no longer available to join other coalitions, which leads to waste of resources. In a number of practical scenarios an agent may have to be involved in executing more than one task simultaneously, and distributing its resources to several completely different coalitions. To tackle such problems, we propose the concurrent formation of overlapping coalitions and introduce a two-dimensional binary encoding to search the coalition space. We mainly focus on the revision algorithm for invalid encodings. Specifically, by using the proposed revision algorithm, an agent may join in several different coalitions at the same time without any resource conflict. Moreover, we prove by mathematical induction that the proposed algorithm will not discard any invalid encoding and can revise any invalid encoding into a valid one. Finally, a contrast experiment is illustrated to demonstrate the proposed algorithm. © 2010 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Surface deformation of an object can be measured by digital shearography through non-contact measurement with a simple device. It is always difficult to remove the noise of the speckle interference. Consequently extracting phase from a single fringe pattern without carrier-frequency is complex. Based on gray extremum, an improved method for phase extraction is proposed by using the improved image binarization algorithm in this paper. Through comparing the average value of eight neighbourhood points around each pixel with threshold value, the quality of binary image can be improved, and then the skeleton line can be extracted. Finally a smooth extremum image can be obtained. Experimental results show that the proposed method is simple, convenient and reliable.

Limited reliability data during the development of cruise ship automation systems often leads to subjective weight allocation. This paper proposes an reliability allocation method based on the Bayesian best-worst method and analytic hierarchy process to address this challenge. By considering the system reliability indices, influencing factors, and units need to be allocated, a hierarchical model is established for reliability allocation based on the analytic hierarchy process. The Bayesian best-worst method compares elements in each layer, generating best and worst matrices based on decision-makers. These matrices determine optimal weights for each layer’s elements. The analytic hierarchy process determines relative importance weights among the system reliability index, influencing factors, and units. Consequently, the derived optimal weights are converted into allocation factors, which enable the allocation of reliability for cruise ship automation systems. This fusion-based approach presents a novel and effective method for optimizing reliability allocation during the development stage of complex systems.

Simple Full-Spectrum Correlated k-Distribution Model based on Multilayer Perceptron

While neural networks have been successfully applied to the full-spectrum k-distribution (FSCK) method at a large range of thermodynamics with k-values predicted by a trained multilayer perceptron (MLP) model, the required a-values still need to be calculated on-the-fly, which theoretically degrades the FSCK method and may lead to errors. On the other hand, too complicated structure of the current MLP model inevitably slows down the calculation efficiency. Therefore, to compensate among accuracy, efficiency and storage, the simple MLP designed based on the nature of FSCK method are developed, i.e., the simple FSCK MLP (SFM) model, from which those correlated k-values and corresponding ka-values can be efficiently obtained. Several test cases have been carried out to compare the developed SFM model and other FSCK tools including look-up tables and traditional FSCK MLP (TFM) model. Results show that the SFM model can achieve excellent accuracy that is even better than look-up tables at a tiny computational cost that is far less than that of TFM model. Considering accuracy, efficiency and portability, the SFM model is not only an excellent tool for the prediction of spectral properties, but also provides a method to reduce the errors due to nonlinear effects. In this paper, we introduce a polar coded orthogonal frequency division multiplexing with code-frequency index modulation (PC-CFIM) scheme, designed to enhance spectral efficiency (SE) while improving error performance. At the transmitter, PC-CFIM divides the information bits into two subsets. One subset is utilized for selecting the spreading code index, and the other is utilized for polar coded OFDM with index modulation (PC-OFDM-IM). In the proposed PC-CFIM framework, the polar-coded sequence is spread using the indices from code domain index modulation. At the receiver, the system employs code index selection coupled with polar decoding to ensure accurate retrieval of information bits. The integration of polar code with hybrid index modulation significantly improves interference resilience, thereby reducing bit error rates (BER). Moreover, the transmission of additional bits via the spreading code index further enhances the system’s SE. Simulation results show that compared to the conventional PC-OFDM-IM, the proposed PC-CFIM significantly improves the BER performance with enhanced SE.

In this work, a microwave photonic prototype for concurrent radar detection and spectrum sensing is proposed, designed, built, and investigated. A direct digital synthesizer and an analog electronic circuit are integrated to generate an intermediate frequency (IF) linearly frequency-modulated (LFM) signal with a tunable center frequency from 2.5 to 9.5 GHz and an instantaneous bandwidth of 1 GHz. The IF LFM signal is converted to the optical domain via an intensity modulator and then filtered by a fiber Bragg grating (FBG) to generate only two 2nd-order optical LFM sidebands. In radar detection, the two optical LFM sidebands beat with each other to generate a frequency-and-bandwidth-quadrupled LFM signal, which is used for ranging, radial velocity measurement, and imaging. By changing the center frequency of the IF LFM signal, the radar function can be operated within 8 to 40 GHz. In spectrum sensing, one 2nd-order optical LFM sideband is selected by another FBG, which then works in conjunction with the stimulated Brillouin scattering gain spectrum to map the frequency of the signal under test to time with an instantaneous measurement bandwidth of 2 GHz. By using a frequency shift module to adjust the pump frequency, the frequency measurement range can be adjusted from 0 to 40 GHz. The prototype is comprehensively studied and tested, which is capable of achieving a range resolution of 3.75 cm, a range error of less than ±2 cm, a radial velocity error within ±1 cm/s, delivering clear imaging of multiple small targets, and maintaining a frequency measurement error of less than ±7 MHz and a frequency resolution of better than 20 MHz. This paper studies the event-triggered resilient filtering problem for a class of nonlinear systems with randomly occurring nonlinearity and missing measurements. Both the phenomena of the randomly occurring nonlinearity and the missing measurements are described by Bernoulli distributed random variables, where the occurrence probabilities could be uncertain. The event-triggered communication mechanism is introduced to save the network bandwidth during the data transmissions through the network. Additionally, the filter gain perturbations are characterized by employing the norm bounded uncertainties. The aim of the paper is to develop a robust event-triggered resilient filtering algorithm against the randomly occurring nonlinearity and missing measurements. Note that the analytical expressions of the filtering error covariance cannot be computed directly. Consequently, we derive its upper bound as an alternative way and subsequently minimize such an upper bound by properly designing the filter gain at each time step. Finally, an illustrative example is presented to show the effectiveness of the provided filtering algorithm.

Through-the-earth (TTE) communication is of great significance to establish the information transmission with the trapped people at the first time and ensure the smooth flow of information. The complex electromagnetic environment of the terrestrial channel brings many difficulties in wireless signal transmission. This paper proposes an orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) signal design scheme of electrode-based TTE communication. The scheme, which has intense penetration and high reliability, designs the frequency and modulation mode of the subcarrier according to the electromagnetic characteristics of earth channel and noise interference. This paper also provides the results of field experiments to show the performance of this OFDM signal.
