Hydrogen production prediction from Co-gasification of biomass and plastics using attention-gated MLP model

Research explores combining plastics and biowastes to decrease carbon footprints in the cement, iron, and steel industries. Co-gasification of these materials cuts carbon and converts it into hydrogen and syngas. The escalating demand for alternative energy sources has driven significant interest in hydrogen as a clean and efficient fuel. However, accurate prediction techniques are indispensable for ensuring the viability and sustainability of hydrogen production processes. While artificial intelligence models have shown promise in various fields, including computer vision and hydrogen prediction, they often encounter limitations such as low prediction accuracy with few data samples, lack of interpretability in yield result explanations, and susceptibility to adversarial attacks. Addressing these challenges is critical for advancing the reliability and applicability of hydrogen production prediction models. This study presents an attention-gated MLP model (agMLP). This novel end-to-end approach integrates MLP and attention mechanisms to enhance the accuracy and interpretability of hydrogen production prediction from the co-gasification of biomass and plastics. Furthermore, several explainable AI models were implemented to explain the proposed agMLP prediction for human understanding while using the Williams plot to indicate the applicability of the proposed agMLP. Further analysis was carried out using the Fast Gradient Sign Method and Projected Gradient Descent adversarial attack on the proposed agMLP model based on 0.2, 0.4, 0.6, and 0.8 perturbation to establish the associated risk of artificial intelligence model prediction via adversarial attack. Lastly, to compare the result of the agMLP model, nine (9) machine learning regression models and three ensemble models were developed and evaluated. Geopolymers prepared from recycled fly ash have emerged as sustainable and effective solutions for the solidification of radioactive wastewater. In this study, fly ash-based geopolymers with varying 137Cs concentrations are prepared, and their solidification effects as well as the compressive strength, porosity, microstructure, and leaching behavior after solidification are investigated. The results indicate the uniform incorporation of Cs into the prepared fly ash-based geopolymers. As the concentration of Cs in the geopolymers increases, the compressive strength decreases and porosity increases;however, the chemical structure remains almost unchanged. These observations are attributed to the electrostatic interaction between Cs+ ions and the negatively charged [SiO4]4− and [AlO4]5− ions in the geopolymers. Moreover, the geopolymers exhibited lower leaching rates and cumulative leaching fractions in both deionized water and Beishan groundwater;the leaching rate and cumulative leaching fraction of 137Cs in fly ash-based geopolymers were lower than the Chinese national standards. Further, the Cs solidification performances of the prepared geopolymers and traditional cement on real radioactive wastewater were compared. The fly ash-based geopolymers demonstrated a superior performance than traditional cement, making them a promising material for radioactive wastewater treatment. This study offers new insights into reducing radioactive waste and makes a substantial contribution to the knowledge of nuclear waste solidification processes employing fly ash-based geopolymers. © 2025

Chain-type wireless sensor network node scheduling strategy

In order to reduce power consumption of sensor nodes and extend network survival time in the wireless sensor network （WSN）, sensor nodes are scheduled in an active or dormant mode. A chain-type WSN is fundamental y different from other types of WSNs, in which the sensor nodes are deployed along elongated geographic areas and form a chain-type network topo-logy structure. This paper investigates the node scheduling prob-lem in the chain-type WSN. Firstly, a node dormant scheduling mode is analyzed theoretical y from geographic coverage, and then three neighboring nodes scheduling criteria are proposed. Sec-ondly, a hybrid coverage scheduling algorithm and dead areas are presented. Final y, node scheduling in mine tunnel WSN with uniform deployment （UD）, non-uniform deployment （NUD） and op-timal distribution point spacing （ODS） is simulated. The results show that the node scheduling with UD and NUD, especial y NUD, can effectively extend the network survival time. Therefore, a strat-egy of adding a few mobile nodes which activate the network in dead areas is proposed, which can further extend the network survival time by balancing the energy consumption of nodes.

The study evaluates the performance of the DigitMI 930 positron emission tomography (PET)/CT system, featuring detector modules with an 1:1:1 coupling of the scintillation crystal, the photosensor, and the electronic readout channel, in adherence to the NEMA NU 2-2018 standard. Moreover, brain and whole-body images were used to assess image quality. The radial, tangential, and axial resolutions at a radial offset of 1 cm were 3.9, 3.9, and 3.7 mm, respectively. The average sensitivity was measured at 16.2 cps/kBq. The peak noise-equivalent count rate was calculated as 412.5 kcps at 34.5 kBq/mL. At an activity concentration of 5.3 kBq/mL, the scatter fraction was 37.5%, and the time-of-flight (TOF) resolution was 248.6 ps. The contrast recovery coefficient ranged from 70.6% to 87.7% with TOF reconstruction. Despite increased noise in shorter whole-body scans, critical lesions remained identifiable at 20-s durations per bed position. The DigitMI 930 PET/CT system demonstrates a strong overall performance, particularly noteworthy for its low spatial resolution to crystal size ratio in comparison to other clinical PET systems. Moreover, the clinical studies indicate that the DigitMI 930 PET/CT system is capable of generating high-quality clinical images with high sensitivity for detecting small lesions, even at low injection doses or short scanning times. © 2017 IEEE.

The emigration of professionals particularly doctors, colloquially known as “Japa”, has created a critical shortage in the country's healthcare workforce. This mass exodus has contributed to one of the world's lowest doctor-to-patient ratios being Nigeria, the focus of this research. In contrast, “Japada”, refers to the potential return of these emigrated professionals, offering an opportunity to mitigate the healthcare crisis. This study introduces the “Japa-Japada” construct, framed within the push-pull theory, to explore the factors driving both medical brain drain and those encouraging medical reverse migration. Leveraging Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) and Structural Equation Modelling (SEM), this research investigates the dimensional drivers for Nigerian doctors' migration decisions, focusing on existential, social, growth, economic, and political factors. The statistical validation demonstrated the model fitness and ranked the critical push factors responsible for medical brain drain as social, political, existential, growth, and economic, respectively and the pull factors as political, economic, social, existential and growth respectively. Conversely, for potential medical reverse brain drain, the key push factors were ranked as growth, social, economic, political, and existential, while pull factors such as social, existential, economic, growth, and political dimensions showed a strong propensity to influence doctors' return to Nigeria. The findings emphasize the complex interplay between push-pull factors and mediating elements such as immigration policies within the broader socio-political landscape whereas validating the insignificance of the moderating elements. Thus, contributing to the global understanding of medical migration and offer actionable strategies for retaining and attracting skilled healthcare professionals in low- and middle-income countries. © 2025 Elsevier Ltd

Magnetostriction and spin reorientation in ferromagnetic Laves phase Pr(Ga_(x)Fe_(1-x))_(1.9) compounds

The magnetostriction, magnetization, and spin reorientation properties in Pr(Ga_(x)Fe_(1-x))_(1.9) alloys have been investigated by high-precision x-ray diffraction(XRD) step scanning, magnetization, and Mossbauer spectra measurements. Ga substitution reduces the magnetostriction(λ_(||)) with magnetic field H ≥ 8 kOe(1 Oe = 1.33322×10^(2) Pa), but it also increases the λ|| value when H ≤ 8 kOe at 5 K. Spin-reorientations(SR) are observed in all the alloys investigated, as determined by the step scanned XRD, Mossbauer spectra, and the abnormal temperature dependence of magnetization. An increase of the spin reorientation temperature(T_(SR)) due to Ga substitution is found in the phase diagram, which is different from the decrease one in many R(T_(x) Fe_(1-x))_(1.9)(T = Co, Al, Mn) alloys. The present work provides a method to control the easy magnetization direction(EMD) or T_(SR) for developing an anisotropic compensation system.

The advent of x-ray free electron lasers (XFELs) has opened the door to exploring the x-ray-nuclei interaction in the multiexcitation regime. Here, we show the dependence of emission properties of x-ray photons from an ensemble of identical resonant nuclei on the number of excitations in the system, employing the theoretical methods we have introduced. Under the multiexcitation condition, the detection of x-ray quanta is emission-order selective. Our work presents an efficient approach to investigating the multiphoton emission of x-rays from cooperative resonant nuclei within and beyond weak-excitation regimes, offering valuable insights into nonlinear x-ray optics and many-body nuclear physics.

Octupole deformation for Ba isotopes in a reflection-asymmetric relativistic mean-field approach

The potential energy surfaces of even-even 142-156Ba are investigated in the constrained reflectionasymmetric relativistic mean-field approach with parameter set PK1. It is shown that for the ground states, 142Ba is near spherical,156Ba well quadrupole-deformed, and in between 144-154Ba octupole deformed. In particular, the nuclei 148,150Ba with N=92, 94 have the largest octupole deformations. By including the octupole degree of freedom, energy gaps N = 88, N = 94 and Z = 56 near Fermi surfaces for the singleparticle levels in 148Ba with β2 ～ 0.26 and β3 ～ 0.17 are found. Furthermore, the performance of the octupole deformation driving pairs （ν2f7/2, ν1i13/2） and （π2d5/2, π1h11/2） is demonstrated by analyzing the singleparticle levels near Fermi surfaces in 148Ba.

Mapping of the lunar surface by average atomic number based on positron annihilation radiation from Chang'e-1

A map of the average atomic number of lunar rock and soil can be used to differentiate lithology and soil type on the lunar *** paper establishes a linear relationship between the average atomic number of lunar rock or soil and the flux of position annihilation radiation(0.512-Me V gamma-ray) from the lunar *** relationship is confirmed by Monte Carlo simulation with data from lunar rock or soil samples collected by Luna(Russia) and Apollo(USA) missions.A map of the average atomic number of the lunar rock and soil on the lunar surface has been derived from the Gamma-Ray Spectrometer data collected by Chang'e-1,an unmanned Chinese lunar-orbiting *** the map,the higher average atomic numbers(ZA > 12.5),which are related to different types of basalt,are in the maria region;the highest ZA(13.2) readings are associated with Sinus *** middle ZA(~12.1) regions,in the shape of irregular oval rings,are in West Oceanus Procellarum and Mare Frigoris,which seems to be consistent with the distribution of potassium,rare earth elements,and phosphorus as a unique feature on the lunar *** lower average atomic numbers(ZA < 11.5)are found to be correlated with the anorthosite on the far side of the Moon.
