People's increasing demand for high-quality network services has prompted the continuous attention and development of network traffic classification (NTC). In recent years, deep flow inspection (DFI) is considered to be the most effective and promising method to solve the NTC. However, DFI still cannot effectively address the problem of changes in flow characteristics of complex packet flows and the discovery of new traffic categories. In this paper, we propose a metric learning based deep learning solution with feature compressor, named deep flow embedding (DFE). The feature compressor is used to compress the feature information transmitted layer by layer in DL backbone while maintaining the computational accuracy, so that the backbone can remove as much noise, redundancy, and other irrelevant information from the input data as possible, and achieve more robust feature extraction of network traffic flow. The deep learning (DL) backbone generates an embedding vector for each network packet flow. Then the embedding vector is compared with the vector template preset for each traffic type in the template library to determine the category of the packet flow. Experimental results verify that our method is more effective than the traditional DFI methods in overcoming the problems of flow characteristics variation and new category discovery. © 2013 IEEE.

Hydrogen is emerging as a promising alternative to fossil fuels in the transportation *** study evaluated the feasibility of estab-lishing hydrogen refueling stations in five cities in Oman,Duqm,Haima,Sur,Al Buraymi,and Salalah,using Hybrid Optimization of Multiple Electric Renewables(HOMER)*** hybrid energy systems,photovoltaic-wind turbine-battery,photovoltaic-battery,and wind turbine-battery were analyzed for each *** indicated that Duqm offers the lowest net present cost(NPC),levelized cost of energy,and levelized cost of hydrogen,making it the most cost-effective ***,Sensitivity analysis showed that as the life of electrolyzer increases during operation,the initial capital expenditure is distributed over a longer operational period,leading to a reduction in the *** so,renewable energy systems produced no emissions which supports Oman’s mission *** comprehensive analysis confirms the feasibility of establishing a hydrogen refueling station in Duqm,Oman,and highlights advanced optimization techniques’superior capability in designing cost-effective,sustainable energy systems.

Dielectric and refractive index analysis of ethylene glycol monomethyl ether-methanol mixtures: Molecular interactions and machine learning based predictions

This study investigates the dielectric and optical properties of ethylene glycol monomethyl ether (EGMME), methanol (MeOH), and their binary mixtures at various concentrations and temperatures (293.15 K, 303.15 K, 313.15 K, and 323.15 K). The static permittivity (Ε0) and permittivity at optical frequency (Ε∞, equivalent to the square of the refractive index) were measured to analyze molecular interactions. Key dielectric parameters, such as excess static permittivity (Ε0E), excess permittivity at optical frequency (Ε∞E), effective Kirkwood correlation factor (geff), and Bruggeman factor (fB) were evaluated. Negative Ε0E values indicate reduced effective dipole moments, while positive Ε∞E suggests enhanced electronic polarization, driven by interactions, particularly hydrogen bonding. Mixing rules were used to predict static permittivity and refractive index, with accuracy assessed via root mean square deviation (RMSD). Machine learning (ML) models: Random Forest, Gradient Boosting, and Extreme Gradient Boosting were trained on experimental data to predict the real (Εʹ) and imaginary (Ε") part of the dielectric function across 20 Hz to 2 MHz. The models demonstrated high predictive accuracy, reducing experimental dependence and enabling efficient dielectric characterization. This study provides insights into EGMME-MeOH molecular interactions and presents a robust ML framework for predicting dielectric properties, with potential applications requiring controlled dielectric properties like coatings, pharmaceuticals, and material science. © 2025 Elsevier B.V.

TopoLa: A Universal Framework to Enhance Cell Representations for Single-cell and Spatial Omics through Topology-encoded Latent Hyperbolic Geometry

Recent advances in cellular research demonstrate that scRNA-seq characterizes cellular heterogeneity, while spatial transcriptomics reveals the spatial distribution of gene expression. Cell representation is the fundamental issue in the two fields. Here, we propose Topology-encoded Latent Hyperbolic Geometry (TopoLa), a computational framework enhancing cell representations by capturing fine-grained intercellular topological relationships. The framework introduces a new metric, TopoLa distance (TLd), which quantifies the geometric distance between cells within latent hyperbolic space, capturing the network's topological structure more effectively. With this framework, the cell representation can be enhanced considerably by performing convolution on its neighboring cells. Performance evaluation across seven biological tasks, including scRNA-seq data clustering and spatial transcriptomics domain identification, shows that TopoLa significantly improves the performance of several state-of-the-art models. These results underscore the generalizability and robustness of TopoLa, establishing it as a valuable tool for advancing both biological discovery and computational methodologies. © 2025, CC BY-NC-SA.

Partial discharge (PD) is a widespread phenomenon instigated in power transformer (PT) insulation systems. PDs are triggered by voids that vary in size and position within the PT insulation. The electrical characteristics of those damaging, PD-causing cavities must be well understood, to accelerate the development of advanced PD detection techniques. Thus, the impact of varying the radius and position of spherical air voids on the characteristics of PDs in PTs is examined using a 3-D finite element analysis (FEA) model designed in COMSOL Multiphysics. The spherical voids are positioned between two windings of a 512 kV, three-phase (3φ ) PT. The peak electric field (EF) and aggregate energy in the FEA model are used in conjunction with laboratory measurements of the apparent discharge magnitude, for detailed analysis of Polyethylene Terephthalate Glycol (PET-G)-based cylindrical voids with different heights. Simulations demonstrate that the inception of PD activity in the PT model occurs for spherical voids with a radius exceeding 1 mm. Furthermore, the most severe PDs occur within the press-board insulation, adjacent to the uppermost part of the innermost windings. Experiments demonstrate that a significant increase in PD activity was observed for PET-G-based cylindrical voids with heights exceeding 1 mm. © 2022 IEEE.

Nontrivial epidemic dynamics induced by information-driven awareness-activity-resource coevolution

During epidemic outbreaks, information dissemination plays a pivotal role in shaping individual perceptions, which in turn influence contact behavior and resource acquisition, collectively determining infection risk. To capture this intricate interplay, we propose a comprehensive coevolutionary dynamics model that integrates information, awareness, activity, resources, and epidemic within a multiplex network framework. Through the development of a theoretical analysis coupled with extensive numerical verifications, we uncover the nonmonotonic effects of information dissemination on epidemic dynamics. Paradoxically, excessive information flow can intensify resource competition among individuals, leading to inefficient allocation and ultimately exacerbating the epidemic. Our findings highlight the importance of optimized resource allocation, showing that moderately prioritizing aware individuals with resources can effectively reduce infection rates, especially as information dissemination increases. Additionally, we explore the optimal balance between information dissemination and resource allocation, emphasizing its strong dependence on resource availability, while activity frequency experts a comparatively minor impact. This study advances the modeling of epidemic dynamics, providing valuable insights and practical strategies for effective epidemic management and control.

Gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) are among the most energetic phenomena in the universe, and their observation has significantly advanced with the development of space-based gamma-ray telescopes. The Gamma-Ray Integrated Detectors (GRID) mission has initiated a nanosatellite constellation capable of all-sky GRB monitoring, deploying 12 detector payloads in low Earth orbit and collecting its first batch of scientific data. For GRB analysis, dedicated detector response matrices (DRMs) were individually constructed for each detector using Monte Carlo simulations and ground calibration. To further validate detector performance under real operational conditions, cross-calibration with existing space missions offers a robust validation. Herein, cross-calibration between the GRID detectors and the Fermi’s Gamma-ray Burst Monitor (GBM) was performed through joint spectral analysis. The excellent agreement between the instruments validates the accuracy of GRID’s DRMs and the reliability of its scientific data. For nanosatellite constellations like GRID, cross-calibration through orbital observations involving multiple distributed detector payloads is a crucial tool for ensuring uniformity and verifying overall performance of such systems. © The Author(s) 2025.

Robust Resource Allocation for Integrated Satellite-Terrestrial Communication Systems With Eavesdroppers

To solve the problems of low system security and poor transmission quality in integrated satellite-terrestrial communication systems due to eavesdroppers and channel uncertainties, a robust resource allocation (RA) problem is studied. Firstly, considering the constraints of users' quality of service, the maximum transmit power of the satellite and the base station, and the bounded channel uncertainties, a RA optimization problem is established by jointly optimizing the beamforming vectors, artificial noise (AN) vectors, and power allocation factors. Then, S-Procedure, successive convex approximation, and alternating optimization are adopted to convert the non-convex problem with parameter perturbation into a convex one that can be solved efficiently. Finally, a robust RA algorithm based on the alternating approach is proposed to obtain the solutions. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm has good security and robustness, and the outage probability is reduced by 9.12% compared to the traditional non-robust algorithms without AN. © 2014 IEEE.

Evolution of cooperation in a bimodal mixture of conditional cooperators

Extensive behavioral experiments reveal that conditional cooperation is a prevalent phenomenon. Previous game-theoretical studies have predominantly relied on hard-manner models, where cooperation is triggered only upon reaching a specific threshold. However, this approach contrasts with the observed flexibility of human behavior, where individuals adapt their strategies dynamically based on their surroundings. To capture this adaptability, we introduce a soft form of conditional cooperation by integrating the Q-learning algorithm from reinforcement learning. In this framework, players not only reciprocate mutual cooperation but may also defect in highly cooperative environments or cooperate in less cooperative settings to maximize rewards. To explore the effects of hard and soft conditional cooperators, we examine their interactions in two scenarios: structural mixture (SM) and probabilistic mixture (PM), where the two behavioral modes are fixed and probabilistically adopted, respectively. In SM, hard conditional cooperators enhance cooperation when the threshold is low but hinder it otherwise. Surprisingly, in PM, the cooperation prevalence exhibits two first-order phase transitions as the probability is varied, leading to high, low, and vanishing levels of cooperation. Analysis of Q-tables offers insights into the "psychological shifts" of soft conditional cooperators and the overall evolutionary dynamics. Model extensions confirm the robustness of our findings. Observation of Subnatural-Linewidth Biphotons in a Two-Level Atomic Ensemble

Biphotons and single photons with narrow bandwidths and long coherence times are essential to the realization of long-distance quantum communication (LDQC) and linear optical quantum computing (LOQC). In this Letter, we manipulate the biphoton wave functions of the spontaneous four-wave mixing in a two-level atomic ensemble with a single-laser pump scheme. Our innovative experimental approach enables the generation of biphotons with a sub-MHz bandwidth of 0.36 MHz, a record spectral brightness of 2.28×107 s−1 mW−1 MHz−1, and a temporally symmetric wave packet at moderate optical depth. The strong nonclassical cross-correlation of the biphotons also enables the observation of heralded sub-MHz-linewidth single photons with a pronounced single-photon nature. The generation of sub-MHz-linewidth biphotons and single photons with a two-level atomic ensemble not only finds applications in quantum repeaters and large cluster states for LDQC and LOQC but also opens up the opportunity to miniaturize the biphoton or single-photon sources for chip-scale quantum technologies.
