In this paper, a reflection element sensitive to polarization direction is proposed, which can independently control the phase of incident wave in dual polarized directions. Then, a reflectarray including the proposed 7×7 elements is designed to offer dual-polarized deflection. The results show that the reflectarray achieves a -15° beam deflection with an X-axis polarized incident wave. In contrast, it realizes a +15° beam deflection with a Y - axis polarized wave. In addition, the cross polarization (X-pol) level is less than -20 dB, and the gain of the array is higher than that of the waveguide feed by 8 dBi. Therefore, significant gain enhancement can be successfully obtained. © 2023 IEEE.

According to Noether's theorem, symmetries in a physical system are intertwined with conserved quantities. These symmetries often determine the system topology, which is made ever more complex with increased dimensionality. Quasicrystals have neither translational nor global rotational symmetry, yet they intrinsically inhabit a higher-dimensional space in which symmetry resurfaces. Here, we discovered topological charge vectors in four dimensions (4D) that govern the real-space topology of 2D quasicrystals and reveal their inherent conservation laws. We demonstrate control over the topology in pentagonal plasmonic quasilattices, mapped by both phase-resolved and time-domain near-field microscopy, showing that their temporal evolution continuously tunes the 2D projections of their distinct 4D topologies. Our work provides a route to experimentally probe the thermodynamic properties of quasicrystals and topological physics in 4D and above.

Targeted Adversarial Examples Generating Method Based on cVAE in Black Box Settings

In recent years, adversarial examples has become one of the most important security threats in deep learning applications. For testing the security of deep learning models in adversarial environment,many researches focus on generating adversarial examples quickly and efficiently. In order to solve the problems of existing generative adversarial networks based methods which can not effectively generate the targeted adversarial examples in black box settings, and to improve the temporal performance of gradient-based generating methods,an adversarial examples generating method based on conditional Variational autoencoder(cVAE) is proposed in this paper, where a cVAE is designed elaborately to generate adversarial examples without most of the detailed information about the attacked deep learning models, of which the output can be controlled arbitrarily by these crafted inputs, used to test the robustness of deep learning models against adversarial examples. The experimental results show that the proposed method can achieve a comparable attack success rate and a better temporal performance than the existing gradient-based generating methods in black box environment.

As an important application of optical manipulation, orbital rotation of nanoparticles in optical beams can find uses in constructing micro-motors/micro-machines and the measurement of physical quantity. Here, we report an intriguing orbital rotation of nanoparticles in focused circularly-polarized Gaussian beams at the wavelength scale. Through the transverse scattering forces, off-axis trapping of nanoparticles becomes possible in the off-focal plane, allowing us to create a rotation orbit with a small radius. During the focusing of the incident circularly-polarized Gaussian beam, the spin angular momentum is converted to the orbital angular momentum that drives the particle’s orbital rotation. While gold nanoparticles always show rotation direction that is identical with that of the angular energy flux density under the dipole approximation, high-refractive index silicon nanoparticles can exhibit an opposite rotation direction. This directional inversion is due to the coupling between induced electric and magnetic dipoles in the dielectric particles. By adjusting the particle size and the position of the off-focus plane, the rotation radius and speed can be tuned. This microscale orbital rotation scheme here may advance the development of micro-motor/micro-machines and the investigation of micro-rheology. Our theoretical analysis also sheds what we believe to be new light to the particle dynamics in optical tweezers.

This paper presents a novel approach to planning and controlling the hybrid formation motion of a fleet of underactuated autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs). The leader AUV performs end-to-end motion planning and obstacle avoidance using deep reinforcement learning (DRL). The followers, on the other hand, are guided by a backstepping technique to maintain the desired formation behind the leader. Neuro-adaptive strategies are employed to estimate the followers' unknown nonlinear terms. Operating within a machine learning (ML) framework, the leader is trained to formulate a control policy that guarantees the safe movement of the entire group towards the target. Theoretical analysis using the Lyapunov stability theory demonstrates that the AUVs' formation control system ensures uniform ultimate boundedness (UUB). The effectiveness of the proposed methodology is evaluated across a range of simulation scenarios.

UAV-Enabled Charging Path Planning for IoT Sensors With Adaptive Dormancy Using Reinforcement Learning

As wireless charging technology advances, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) are emerging as a primary energy source for Internet of Things (IoT) sensing networks. However, the limited power capacity of UAVs poses significant challenges in ensuring timely and efficient energy replenishment for IoT devices. Traditional approaches rely on fully charging devices in each cycle, which can be inefficient. This paper introduces a partial charging model aimed at maximizing system utility by accounting for the energy consumption patterns of sensing nodes and the UAV’s optimal hovering positions. The proposed system utility integrates key objectives: maximizing total data collection, minimizing the number of dead nodes, and minimizing the UAV flight distance. We propose a scheme RASE to maximize the system utility. RASE scheme combines reinforcement learning with a sensor node dormancy strategy based on a matrix completion algorithm while also introducing an adaptive charging power strategy tailored to the data collection needs of individual sensing devices. Extensive simulations validate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm, demonstrating significant improvements in system performance. The RASE scheme not only maximizes the effectiveness of the system but also greatly extends the lifetime of the sensing network. © 2014 IEEE.

An innovative microcrystalline cellulose(MCC)natural fibre powder-reinforced PLA biocomposite was investigated using the hand lay-up *** polymer matrix composite(PMC)samples were prepared by varying the weight percentages(wt.%)of both PLA matrix and MCC reinforcement:pure PLA/100:0,90:10,80:20,70:30,60:40 and 50:50 wt.%,*** the results obtained,MCC powder,with its impressive aspect ratio,proved to be an ideal reinforcement for the PLA,exhibiting exceptional mechanical *** was evident that the 80:20 wt.%biocomposite sample exhibited the maximum improvement in the tensile,flexural,notched impact,compressive strength and hardness by 28.85%,20.00%,91.66%,21.53%and 35.82%,respectively compared to the pure PLA ***,during the thermogravimetric analysis(TGA),the same 80:20 wt.%biocomposite sample showed a minimum weight loss of 20%at 400℃,among *** morphological study using Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscopy(FE-SEM)revealed that the uniform distribution of cellulose reinforcement in the PLA matrix actively improved the mechanical properties of the biocomposites,especially the optimal 80:20 wt.%***,it was evident that the optimal PLA/cellulose biocomposite sample could be a suitable and alternative sustainable,environmentally friendly and biodegradable material for semi/structural applications,replacing synthetic and traditional components.

This paper examines some common problems in Human-Robot Interaction (HRI) causing failures and troubles in Chat. A given use case’s design decisions start with the suitable robot, the suitable chatting model, identifying common problems that cause failures, identifying potential solutions, and planning continuous improvement. In conclusion, it is recommended to use a closed-loop control algorithm that guides the use of trained Artificial Intelligence (AI) pre-trained models and provides vocabulary filtering, re-train batched models on new datasets, learn online from data streams, and/or use reinforcement learning models to self-update the trained models and reduce errors. © 2023, CC BY.
