Enhanced picosecond terahertz wave generation based on cascade effects in a terahertz parametric generator

Enhanced terahertz wave generation via a Stokes cascade process has been demonstrated using picosecond pulse pumped terahertz parametric generation at 1 kHz repetition *** cascade saturation of terahertz output was observed,and the corresponding cascade-Stokes spectra were *** maximum terahertz wave average power was 22μW under a pump power of 30 W,whereas the maximum power conversion efficiency was 8×10^(-7)under a pump power of 21 *** THz power fluctuation was measured to be about 1%in 20 *** THz parametric source with a relatively stable output is suitable for a variety of practical applications.

Free manipulation of electromagnetic waves in the terahertz(THz)band based on metasurface functional devices has been the focus of research in recent *** these devices,active metasurfaces have generated extensive research interest due to their *** this work,we demonstrate a mechanically reconfigurable THz polarization converter that consists of two parallel transmissive metasurfaces with a tunable *** mechanically adjusting the coupling strength between the metasurfaces,the orthogonal polarization conversion of the incident linearly polarized THz waves can be ***,the device can be tuned from efficient dual-frequency orthogonal polarization conversion to efficient single-frequency orthogonal polarization *** a gradual decrease in efficiency,it is finally changed to a low transmission state as the gap distance increases from 150 to 800μ*** theoretically analyze the tuning process under different spacings and experimentally verify it using a vector network *** proposed design is straightforward and robust,with the potential to find wide applications in THz science and technology.

Solid-state nanopores offer a range of distinct advantages over biological nanopores,such as structural diversity and greater stability and durability;this makes them highly promising for high-resolution nanoparticle *** nanopores can exhibit gating characteristics with stress-responsive switches and can demonstrate specificity toward particular *** inspiration from biological nanopores,this paper introduces a novel polymer nanopore with field-effect characteristics,leveraging a conductive polymer in its construction to showcase intriguing gating ***,in this device,the polymer layer serves as the gate,enabling precise control over the source–drain current response inside and outside the pore by simply adjusting the gate *** unique feature allows fine-tuning of the nanopore’s sensitivity to nanoparticles of varying sizes and facilitates its operation in multiple *** results reveal that the developed polymer nanopore field-effect transistor demonstrates remarkable selectivity in detecting nanoparticles of various sizes under different applied *** proposed single device demonstrates the exceptional ability to detect multiple types of nanoparticle,showcasing its immense potential for a wide range of applications in biological-particle analysis and medical diagnostics.

In this paper, the Raman spectra of tumor and normal region in U87 glioma tissue were measured by using a microscope system in the range of 300-1800 cm-1, respectively. The results showed that there were apparent intensity difference between tumor and normal tissues, where the peaks were related to the reducing of the lipids metabolic pathways, and increase of the RNA and glycogen in tumor tissue region. These results demonstrated that Raman spectroscopy can diagnose glioma, which provided a promising tool for diagnosing mechanism of glioma. © 2023 IEEE.

A growing body of evidence suggests that emotion regulation(ER)plays a crucial role in the decision-making(DM)process of suicide attempters(SA).Cognitive reappraisal(CR),an emotion regulation strategy that reinterprets emotional situations to alter physiological and emotional responses,has been studied ***,its effect on SA is yet to be *** present study attempted to use CR to modulate ER in SA to improve their DM performance,and explore the physiological mechanisms underlying this *** scores under natural responses and after using the CR strategy,as well as behavioral and electroencephalographic(EEG)data from subjects were recorded during the classical DM task-ultimatum game(UG)paradigm.52 patients with psychiatric disorders(including 26 SA and 26 non-suicide attempters)and 22 healthy controls(HC)performed in *** results showed that negative emotional experience scores decreased in all three groups after CR,but SA showed less improvement compared to *** behavioral results showed that acceptance of SA significantly increased after CR in both fair and unfair alternatives in the UG task,suggesting that CR can improve DM performance of ***,we extracted the late-positive potential(LPP)and theta-gamma coupling(TGC)of EEG for *** LPP of SA was significantly higher when facing unfair alternatives than in fair ones,reflecting the fact that SA showed stronger negative emotions in the face of unfair *** addition,SA exhibited TGC diminished in frontotemporal regions when facing unfair allocation schemes,which demonstrated the existence of cognitive impairment in *** study verified the feasibility of CR for the moderation of DM ability in SA and provided new ideas for early intervention of suicidal behavior.

As an important part of the current electronic information industry, chip defects will affect the reliability of the chip, therefore, there is a great demand for chip defect detection. Photoacoustic detection, as a new detection technology, has deeper penetration depth than infrared detection, lower risk than X-ray detection, and better image resolution and contrast than ultrasonic detection, making photoacoustic detection has application value in the field of chip defect detection. In this work, photoacoustic detection of chip was performed using acoustic resolution photoacoustic microscopy (AR-PAM), where the droplet of ultra-pure water was used as a coupling agent. The time domain waveform inside the chip was extracted and analyzed. It can be found that the waveforms of the defect area showed clear difference from that of the normal area. The results indicated that photoacoustic effect is feasible to be applied in the field of internal defect detection of chips. It can provide a new technique for chip defect detection. © 2024 SPIE.

In this paper, an extra-cavity terahertz parametric source based on the stimulated polariton scattering in MgO: LiNbO3 crystal has been demonstrated using a high-repetition-rate electro-optic Q-switched Nd: YAG laser. The pumping 1064nm laser run under 1 kHz repetition frequency with the pulse width of 12ns. The maximum average THz output power of 23.37 μW has been obtained at 1.78 THz when the pump power was 7.26 W. The corresponded THz conversion efficiency was 3.22×10-6. The tunable THz frequency was in the range 1.0-3.19 THz. This kind of THz parametric source with high-repetition-rate and high peak power can meet the requirement in many applications. © 2024 SPIE.

An electronic tongue(E-tongue)comprises a series of sensors that simulate human perception of taste and embedded artificial intelligence(AI)for data analysis and *** E-tongues based on electrochemical methods suffer from a bulky size and require larger sample volumes and extra power sources,limiting their applications in in vivo medical diagnosis and analytical *** by the mechanics of the human tongue,triboelectric components have been incorporated into E-tongue platforms to overcome these *** this study,an integrated multichannel triboelectric bioinspired E-tongue(TBIET)device was developed on a single glass slide chip to improve the device’s taste classification accuracy by utilizing numerous sensory *** detection capability of the TBIET was further validated using various test samples,including representative human body,environmental,and beverage *** TBIET achieved a remarkably high classification *** instance,chemical solutions showed 100%identification accuracy,environmental samples reached 98.3%accuracy,and four typical teas demonstrated 97.0%***,the classification accuracy of NaCl solutions with five different concentrations reached 96.9%.The innovative TBIET exhibits a remarkable capacity to detect and analyze droplets with ultrahigh sensitivity to their electrical ***,it offers a high degree of reliability in accurately detecting and analyzing various liquid samples within a short *** development of a self-powered portable triboelectric E-tongue prototype is a notable advancement in the field and is one that can greatly enhance the feasibility of rapid on-site detection of liquid samples in various settings.

The accurate diagnosis and treatment of gliomas greatly depend on the precise delineation of tumor boundaries and the rapid extraction of molecular pathological features. In this paper, the terahertz (THz) attenuated total reflection (ATR) imaging with super-hemispherical solid immersion lens (SIL) has been developed. The resolution of 120 μm have been demonstrated by imaging the agar. THz imaging of freshly excised normal brain tissues and glioma tissues in mice models have been performed. The results showed that detailed structures such as the hippocampus in normal mice brain tissue can be accurately identified. Moreover, it can be found that hippocampus exhibits different THz reflectivity from the surrounding tissue by analyzing the THz properties of these regions. The glioma in mice brain tissue can be differentiated clearly from normal brain tissue for their high absorption properties of THz wave, which corresponded well to the glioma region in the hematoxylin and eosin (H&E) stained image. These promising results indicate the potential of THz ATR imaging based on SIL as a label-free, real-time diagnostic tool for brain gliomas. © 2025 SPIE.
