The optimal path for autonomous robots is highly needed, particularly in the industrial communities, manufacturing and social support industries. The meta-heuristic methods are strong and adaptable, and their employment in autonomous problems is taken into consideration. One of the methods used by the researchers is Ant Colony Optimization (ACO). However, this approach is less effective due to a few limitations. Thus, in order to mitigate its shortcomings and enhance the robustness of path planning, this paper aims to compare the different standard ACO algorithm with the new modified built algorithm, which is developed by taking the concept of ACO and extending it by condition-based rules, named as condition based-ant colony concept (CB-ACC), to solve path planning. The theoretical foundation of ACO with modification as another approach are used in this study to illustrate the ACO methods in the path planning, particularly in the static-complex environment. Simulation results show the comparison of the ACO approaches, including the Ant System (AS), the Ant Colony System (ACS) and the modified condition based-ant colony concept (CB-ACC), and how they are effective for static-complex environments compared to conventional ACO algorithms. Moreover, this paper presents the comparison results of the three approaches. © 2024 IEEE.

Log-based anomaly detection is an essential task in maintaining software reliability. Existing log-based anomaly detection approaches often consist of three key phases: log parsing, event embedding, and model construction. Event embedding efficiently extracts semantic information from log events and produces vector representations of log events. However, existing event embedding methods suffer from two key problems. First, semantic noises are buried in log events leading to inevitable gaps between the obtained semantics from log events and their essential meanings. Second, there exists a gap between general semantic embedding and the specific embedding requirement of anomaly detection tasks. To mitigate these problems and improve the quality of representations of log events, we propose a novel anomaly detection approach named LLMeLog. It leverages the capabilities of large language models (LLMs) to enrich the contents of log events with in-context learning techniques. Then it utilizes the enriched log events to fine-Tune a pre-Trained BERT model. At last, it trains a transformer-based anomaly detection model with the event representations produced by the pre-Trained BERT model. Evaluation results on three public log datasets show that LLMeLog achieves the best performance across all datasets, boasting F1-scores exceeding 99%. Besides, when using only 10% of labeled data as training data, our approach can still achieve over 90% F1-scores. © 2024 IEEE.

Recommender systems provide users personalized services by collecting and analyzing interaction data, undermining user privacy to a certain extent. In federated recommender systems, users can train models on local devices without uploading raw data. Nevertheless, model updates transmitted between the user and the server are still vulnerable to privacy inference attacks. Several studies adopt differential privacy to obfuscate transmitted updates, but they ignore the privacy sensitivity of recommender model components. The problem is that components closer to the original data are more susceptible to privacy leakage. To address this point, we propose a novel adaptive privacy-preserving method combining autoencoder for federated collaborative filtering, which guarantees privacy meanwhile maintaining high model performance. First, we extend the variational autoencoder (VAE) to federated settings for privacy-preserving recommendations. Additionally, we analyze the privacy risks of the variational autoencoder model in federated collaborative filtering. Subsequently, we propose an adaptive differential privacy method to enhance user privacy further. The key is to allocate less privacy budget for sensitive layers. We apply a metric based on model weights to determine the privacy sensitivity of each layer in the autoencoder. Then we adaptively allocate the privacy budget to the corresponding model layer. Extensive experiments and analysis demonstrate that our method can achieve competitive performance to non-private recommender models meanwhile providing fine-grained privacy protection. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), a common endocrine-metabolic disorder affecting about 10-13% of women during reproductive age worldwide, often leads to irregular menstruation, infertility, obesity, and long-term health risks such as diabetes and cardiovascular disease. In this paper, clinical data from PCOS patients and healthy control group were collected from ten hospitals containing 37 key indicators such as age, weight, BMI, menstrual cycle, etc. BP (Back Propagation) Neural Network prediction models were constructed and compared using the collected data and the cross-validation method was used for parameter tuning. It was found that BP Neural Network performed particularly well on the test set, and both demonstrated high prediction accuracy and generalization ability which provided strong evidence for the early identification and early valuable intervention opportunities for PCOS patients. © 2025 IEEE.

Federated learning has rapidly gained attention in the industrial sector due to its significant advantages in protecting privacy. However, ensuring the fairness of federated learning models post-deployment presents a challenge in practical applications. Given that clients typically rely on limited private datasets to assess model fairness, this constrains their ability to make accurate judgments about the fairness of the model. To address this issue, we propose an innovative evaluation framework, FedEvalFair, which integrates private data from multiple clients to comprehensively assess the fairness of models in actual deployment without compromising data privacy. Firstly, FedEvalFair draws on the concept of federated learning to achieve a comprehensive assessment while protecting privacy. Secondly, based on the statistical concept of "estimating the population from the sample", FedEvalFair is capable of estimating the fairness performance of the model in real-world settings from a limited data sample. Thirdly, we have designed a flexible two-stage evaluation strategy based on statistical hypothesis testing. We verified the theoretical performance and sensitivity to fairness variations of FedEvalFair using Monte Carlo simulations, demonstrating the superior performance of its two-stage evaluation strategy. Additionally, we validated the effectiveness of the FedEvalFair method on real-world datasets, including UCI Adult and eICU, and demonstrated its stability in dealing with real-world data distribution changes compared to traditional evaluation methods. © 2024 ACM.

Stable patch identification is crucial in merging patches into stable versions, which helps ensure the stability of the Linux kernel. Although many tools have been proposed to mitigate the manual effort of stable patch identification, challenges still arise because they neglect continuous stable patch tracking and advanced Natural Language Processing (NLP) pre-training techniques. In this paper, in collaboration with developers from the openAnolis Linux operating system distribution community, we present a stable patch identification model called PatchBERT. It utilizes BERT and CodeBERT to capture the semantic patch representation from the commit message and code changes in a patch. We then perform patch classification and output the probability that the patch should be merged into the stable versions. We perform experiments on the dataset used by the previous methods. The experimental results show the superior performance of PatchBERT over state-of-the-art baselines. Additionally, it is common practice to train the model using the latest Linux patches and implement it in a real-world industrial setting. In this exercise, we randomly select 10,000 patches for identification, accurately identifying 8,617 patches and incorrectly identifying 1,383 patches. This practical outcome further confirms the effectiveness and utility of PatchBERT in real-world scenarios. © 2024 IEEE.

3DGCformer: 3-Dimensional Graph Convolutional transformer for multi-step origin–destination matrix forecasting

Forecasting Human mobility is of great significance in the simulation and control of infectious diseases like COVID-19. To get a clear picture of potential future outbreaks, it is necessary to forecast multi-step Origin–Destination (OD) matrices for a relatively long period in the future. However, multi-step Origin–Destination Matrix Forecasting (ODMF) is a non-trivial problem. First, previous ODMF models only forecast the OD matrix for the next time-step, and they cannot perform well on long-term multi-step forecasts due to error accumulation. Second, many ODMF methods capture spatial and temporal dependencies with separate modules, which is insufficient to model spatio-temporal correlations in the time-varying OD matrix sequence. To address the challenges in multi-step ODMF, we propose 3-Dimensional Graph Convolutional Transformer (3DGCformer). As an enhancement of the original 3DGCN, we propose a novel Origin–Destination Feature Propagation (ODFP) rule between 3DGCN layers and integrate 2 3DGCNs with different spatio-temporal graphs and corresponding feature propagation rules to model the formation of OD flows in a more comprehensive way. For multi-step forecasts, 3DGCformer uses Transformer to capture long-term global temporal dependency, and adapt its decoder using labeled tokens to avoid error accumulation and improve time efficiency. To avoid information loss as the number of regions increases, we propose a patch embedding approach to convert data from 3DGCNs to the Transformer module. We perform extensive experiments on 4 real-world human mobility datasets, and the results show that our proposed model outperforms the state-of-the-art methods. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature 2025.

Pipeline parallelism is essential for edge computing as it effectively consolidates the limited resources of edge devices, enabling the deployment of large Deep Neural Network (DNN) models and accelerating inference processes without compromising the performance of models. Accurate computation and communication latency estimation on heterogeneous edge devices is essential for searching for a superior parallelism plan. However, existing heterogeneous pipeline inference approaches either incur substantial resource wastage during online parallelism planning, as they utilize profiling strategies that occupy physical devices;or rely on cost models with inadequate representational capabilities, leading to inaccurate predictions, thereby harming the result of pipeline planning. This paper proposes EPipe, a novel pipeline inference framework that supports high-quality offline planning in heterogeneous edge environments. EPipe integrates two core components: the Task-Device Co-analyzer (TDC) and the Multi-pipeline Parallelism Planner (MPP). TDC utilizes an undirected connected graph to depict the compatibility of DNNs across device groups and precisely estimates inference and communication latencies through fine-grained modeling. Based on TDC, MPP utilizes a dynamic programming-based genetic algorithm to explore multi-pipeline solutions, extending beyond traditional single-pipeline methods. A comprehensive experimental evaluation on an edge testbed confirms the effectiveness of EPipe, demonstrating significant speedups in inference tasks for both task streams and single tasks. © 2024 Copyright is held by the owner/author(s).

Due to its importance in studying people's thoughts on various Web 2.0 services, emotion classification is a critical undertaking. Most existing research is focused on the English language, with little work on low-resource languages. Though sentiment analysis, particularly emotion classification in English, has received increasing attention in recent years, little study has been done in the context of Bangla, one of the world's most widely spoken languages. In this research, we propose a complete set of approaches for identifying and extracting emotions from Bangla texts. We provide a Bangla emotion classifier for six classes, i.e., anger, disgust, fear, joy, sadness, and surprise, from Bangla words using transformer-based models, which exhibit phenomenal results in recent days, especially for high-resource languages. The Unified Bangla Multi-class Emotion Corpus (UBMEC) is used to assess the performance of our models. UBMEC is created by combining two previously released manually labelled datasets of Bangla comments on six emotion classes with fresh manually labelled Bangla comments created by us. The corpus dataset and code we used in this work are publicly available. © 2024 IEEE.

Graphical User Interface (GUI) designing and testing of different applications is significant from a user point of view. GUI testing ensures that the user interface of apps is visually appealing, user-friendly, and enhances user satisfaction. Pattern-Based GUI Testing (PBGT) is a new model-based testing approach that aims to enhance reusability while reducing the workload associated with modeling user interfaces and testing applications. The objective of conducting a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) on pattern-based GUI testing is to consolidate existing knowledge and provide insights for improving the effectiveness of PBGT methods. The objectives of conducting an SLR are the identification of current state-of-the-art approaches and tools in the targeted research context. To accomplish the mentioned objectives, A hybrid methodology combining Kitchenham's SLR and PRISMA guidelines was used to conduct this SLR. We performed a keyword-based search on well-known databases IEEE, ACM, science Direct, Wiley, and Springer Link to determine the potential studies published in the last 10 years. Following a comprehensive systematic analysis, we identified a total of twenty-four studies employing varied approaches for pattern-based GUI testing. Additionally, we identified 11 tools that have been used and proposed in PBGT for Android and web apps and made a taxonomy of tools. We also identified challenges and research directions. The implications of this study are significant. The current study is helpful for researchers intending to work in pattern-based GUI testing. The comprehensive knowledge about the current state-of-the-art Tools, techniques, and approaches will help practitioners to effectively apply them in industry and enable researchers to extend their work in this context in future research. © 2023 IEEE.
