Computer-aided skin lesion segmentation with high precision is crucial to diagnose skin cancers in the early stage. However, the lack of pixel-level labels makes the skin lesion segmentation tasks challenging. To tackle this problem, a new weakly-supervised skin lesion segmentation network with self-attentions named SLSNet is proposed. SLSNet contains two modules and uses image-level labels as supervision information. One module named Intra-image Self-attention Seed Expansion (ISE) digs intra-image self-attentions with an expansion loss and a confidence loss to expand seed areas. The other module named Inter-image Affinity-based Noise Suppression (IAS) suppresses the noise pixels in attention maps via inter-image correlations. Extensive experiments conducted on ISIC-2017 dataset show that SLSNet achieves relatively high performance while reducing human labeling efforts. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd 2024.

Pressure-stabilized electride Li10Si with superconducting and superionic behavior

Electrides have attracted increasing interest due to their diversely physical properties, including low work function, high catalytic activity, as well as potential superconductivity. In this work, using first-principles crystal structure prediction method in combination with first-principles calculations, we uncovered seven thermodynamically stable electrides in the electron-rich Li-Si system at a pressure range of 25–100 GPa, namely C2/cLi5Si, CmcmLi6Si, P21/mLi7Si, ImmaLi7Si, C2/cLi8Si, CmcmLi9Si, and I222Li10Si. Among these predicted structures, five of them are superconductor. In particular, the superconducting critical temperature Tc of I222Li10Si was estimated to be approximately 15 K at 95 GPa. Our in-depth analysis shows that this high superconductivity is attributed to the strong coupling between the Li-p electrons and the Li-dominated phonon softening at low frequencies. Additionally, Li10Si undergoes a phase transition from solid state to superionic state at 60 GPa and 850 K, where Si atoms remain fixed to form the lattice, allowing for the diffusion of Li atoms within the interstitial position. Our results reveal the emergence of two distinct dynamic states of superconducting and superionic in this particular system, and the further experimental studies are thus stimulated.

D-LinkNet has been a popular convolutional neural network. However, the scale of the model would be huge. Focused on the problem, this article made some improvements:(1) Replace the initial block with a stem block. (2) Add bottleneck layers before and after DBlock to form a new module called DBlockPlus. (3) Rebuild the entire network based on ResNet. The article also proposed a method named ESIPs to eliminate small independent patches and adopted a composite loss function called DF loss to better address the impact of extreme class imbalance in binary classification. And another composite loss function was introduced for comparative experiments. The experimental results show that the SBD-LinkNet not only has less parameters but also has a higher accuracy and the road extraction results presented a better visual effect after processing by ESIPs. And the model that uses DF loss also performs better in road extraction from complicated scene.

Detecting semantic changes in high-resolution aerial images is a challenging task in remote sensing technology. Previous change detection methods have encountered difficulties in detecting subtle changes and have faced problems such as overfitting of image time series and unclear boundaries of the generated change maps. This paper proposes SEFNet, a multi-task change detection network based on symmetric enhancement fusion, to address the aforementioned issues. SEFNet is built on a decoupled three-branch change detection network framework, which allows each branch module to perform more specialized functions, facilitating more targeted training. Additionally, this study introduces the Symmetry-enhanced Fusion Change Detection unit (SFCD) module to extract multi-level change information. To highlight subtle changes while incorporating shallow detailed features of the network, the SFCD method employs feature enhancement methods and feature reuse strategies. Additionally, the proposed symmetric fusion module reduces the network's sensitivity to image time. A multitask classifier is also utilized to generate semantic change detection maps. The method's effectiveness is demonstrated on the SECOND dataset, achieving the best results in the current state-of-the-art dataset.

Multimodal networks that juxtapose visual and linguistic modalities are currently widely adopted for solving vision-and-language tasks. They perform well in simple and intu-itive tasks, but are prone to mistakes in tasks involving latent or implicit details, due to the difficulty of capturing crucial but imperceptible visual signals in the real world. Perception errors lead to nonsensical results, but can be corrected by commonsense knowledge. To this end, we combine visual perception and linguistic commonsense to solve the challenging daily events causality reasoning task. We propose a novel Object-Aware Reasoning Network to focus on object inter-action while ignoring distracting information to refine visual perception. Further, a language branch with an independent prediction head is supervised to learn causality commonsense to help correct obvious perception errors, resulting in more plausible conclusions. Extensive experiments demonstrate that our method achieves new state-of-the-art results on Vis-Causal dataset. © 2022 IEEE.

In mobile systems, memory can be compressed page-by-page to save space. This approach is widely adopted because memory data is accessed by page. However, this paper shows that the system response speed is significantly limited by page-grained compression. In this paper, we observe that approximately a quarter of anonymous memory pages are highly correlated, even though the association is implicit. Inspired by this, we propose Archer, an association-rule-aware memory compression framework in mobile systems. Archer demonstrates that memory in mobile devices should be compressed using flexible granularity, rather than relying solely on traditional page compression. To further integrate associationrule mining techniques into system design, we redesign the LRU mechanism and propose an adaptive memory compression region. Experimental results show that the average app launching speed is 1.55x faster when enabling Archer, and the average photographic speed and frame rate increase by 1.42x and 1.31x, respectively, compared to the state-of-the-art.

software testing is one of the most essential parts of the software lifecycle and requires a substantial amount of time and effort. During the software evolution, test cases should co-evolve with the production code. However, the co-evolution of test cases often fails due to tight project schedules and other reasons. Obsolete test cases improve the cost of software maintenance and may fail to reveal faults and even lead to future bugs. Therefore, it is essential to detect and update these obsolete test cases in time. In this paper, we propose a novel approach Ceprot (Co-Evolution of Production-Test Code) to identify outdated test cases and update them automatically according to changes in the production code. Ceprot consists of two stages, i.e., obsolete test identification and updating. Specifically, given a production code change and a corresponding test case, Ceprot first identifies whether the test case should be updated. If the test is identified as obsolete, Ceprot will update it to a new version of test case. To evaluate the effectiveness of the two stages, we construct two datasets. Our dataset focuses on method-level production code changes and updates on their obsolete test cases. The experimental results show that Ceprot can effectively identify obsolete test cases with precision and recall of 98.3% and 90.0%, respectively. In addition, test cases generated by Ceprot are identical to the ground truth for 12.3% of samples that are identified as obsolete by Ceprot. We also conduct dynamic evaluation and human evaluation to measure the effectiveness of the updated test cases by Ceprot. 48.0% of updated test cases can be compiled and the average coverage of updated cases is 34.2% which achieves 89% coverage improvement over the obsolete tests. We believe that this study can motivate the co-evolution of production and test code.

At present, a large number of cities are facing the situation of "garbage besieged", and the existing garbage disposal system can no longer meet the increasingly complex factors. With the development of a new generation of Internet of Things technology, integrating the knowledge and technology of related disciplines such as network and geographic information, it is possible to build a real-time monitoring platform for seepage and odor in landfills to complete gas monitoring. The author of the paper reviewed the related technologies of the Internet of Things, and proposed the design scheme of the online monitoring system for odor and seepage of the Maiyuan garbage dump in Nanchang City, selected 5 monitoring items, completed the data collection, and used the collected data to use Matlab and python software to carry out simulation analysis and prediction, and finally discuss the main factors and treatment measures of environmental pollution, provide theoretical guidance for relevant managers to improve the overall management decision-making level of urban domestic garbage dumps, and draw some practical conclusions.

Mobile devices have become ubiquitous in daily life. In contrast to traditional servers, mobile devices suffer from limited memory resources, leading to a significant degradation in the user experience. This paper demonstrates that the primary cause of memory consumption lies in anonymous pages associated with application heaps. Existing schemes are ineffective in deduplicating these pages due to the limited occurrence of the same anonymous pages. This paper presents Sparrow, a similar-page aware deduplication solution for mobile systems. Sparrow shows that memory pages still have the potential to deduplicate, even though the same pages are rare. An interesting observation inspires this, that is, a high number of pages having the partially-same contents. We have implemented Sparrow on real-life smartphones. Experimental results indicate that 30.45% more space can be saved with Sparrow.

Web services are service-oriented computing technology which allows computers running different operating domains to access and share each other’s databases. Each web service is an application (like online business) which may require the private information of users. Thus, it will be important to preserve these web users’ individual privacy. The traditional approaches to achieve this goal in web security is to use the cryptographic technologies, such as digital signature, NIZK proof system. Whereas, some recent research results indicate that these cryptographic technologies may suffer from the algorithm substitution attack (ASA). ASA means that the cryptographic technology would be embedded some backdoor in the process of its implementation by the attacker, and with the backdoor information the attacker can steal the user’s private information. To address this problem, the concept of cryptographic reverse firewall (CRF) has been introduced, which could sanitize the messages inputting and outputting the user’s computer. In this paper, we construct the CRFs for the efficient Pointcheval-Sanders (PS) signature as well as the NIZK proof system. © 2023, Springer Nature Switzerland AG.
