Aqueous zinc-ion batteries (AZBs) show promises for large-scale energy storage. However, the zinc utilization rate (ZUR) is generally low due to side reactions in the aqueous electrolyte caused by the active water molecules. Here, we design a novel solvation structure in the electrolyte by introduction of sulfolane (SL). Theoretical calculations, molecular dynamics simulations and experimental tests show that SL remodels the primary solvation shell of Zn 2+ , which significantly reduces the side reactions of Zn anode and achieves high ZUR under large capacities. Specifically, the symmetric and asymmetric cells could achieve a maximum of ∼96 % ZUR at an areal capacity of 24 mAh cm −2 . In a ZUR of ∼67 %, the developed Zn−V 2 O 5 full cell can be stably cycled for 500 cycles with an energy density of 180 Wh kg −1 and Zn-AC capacitor is stable for 5000 cycles. This electrolyte structural engineering strategy provides new insight into achieving high ZUR of Zn anodes for high performance AZBs.

Friend recommendation is a fundamental service for both social networks and practical applications. The majority of existing friend-recommendation methods utilize user profiles, social relationships, or static post content data, but rarely consider the semantic intentions and dynamic behaviors of users. In this paper, we propose FRec++, a friend recommendation method based on semantic and dynamic information. In FRec++, the first plus stands for new friend recommendation using a semantic model based on LDA while the next plus stands for the use of dynamic user attributes (e.g., behaviors or positions). More specifically, we first use the LDA method to generate semantic topics for user interests, and then compute the topic similarities between the target user and candidate friends. Next, we calculate the similarities of dynamic behaviors (i.e., forwarding, making comments, liking, and replying) and investigate the static attributes of users to measure the relevance of preferences. Finally, the weighted average method is used to integrate the above factors. We conducted experiments on the Weibo dataset and the results show that FRec++ outperforms several existing methods. © Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2018.

Owing to the high depth of tissue penetration, non-invasiveness, and controllability, ultrasound (US)-mediated sonodynamic therapy (SDT) has shown broad application prospects for tumor treatment. However, the electron-hole separation inefficiency of sonosensitizers and the tumor hypoxia remain two major challenges limiting the effect of SDT. Here, ultrafine photoetched bismuth vanadate (BiVO 4 ) nanorods modified with DSPE-PEG 2000 (PEBVO@PEG NRs) were fabricated to achieve in situ self-supply of oxygen (O 2 ) and reactive oxygen species (ROS) for hypoxic tumor therapy. The photoetching approach could enhance the charge separation by inducing enriched oxygen vacancies on the surface of BiVO 4 , thereby improving the generation efficiency of ROS and O 2 . The PEBVO@PEG overcome the main obstacles of traditional sonosensitizers in the SDT process and show promising sonodynamic therapeutic effects, thus providing new strategies for improving the performance of sonosensitizer and hypoxic tumor elimination.

We introduce and analyse the problem of encoding classical information into different resources of a quantum state. More precisely, we consider a general class of communication scenarios characterised by encoding operations that commute with a unique resource destroying map and leave free states invariant. Our motivating example is given by encoding information into coherences of a quantum system with respect to a fixed basis (with unitaries diagonal in that basis as encodings and the decoherence channel as a resource destroying map), but the generality of the framework allows us to explore applications ranging from super-dense coding to thermodynamics. For any state, we find that the number of messages that can be encoded into it using such operations in a one-shot scenario is upper bounded in terms of the information spectrum relative entropy between the given state and its version with erased resources. Furthermore, if the resource destroying map is the twirling channel over some unitary group, we find matching one-shot lower bounds as well. In the asymptotic setting where we encode into many copies of the resource state, our bounds yield an operational interpretation of resource monotones such as the relative entropy of coherence and its corresponding relative entropy variance. We studied structural and magnetic phase transitions under applied pressure for the doped cobaltite La0.75Ba0.25CoO2.9. Neutron and x-ray diffraction experiments established the coexistence of rhombohedral and cubic phases in the sample. The magnetic state at 2 K is best described as a long-range ordered antiferromagnet (AFM) with small ferromagnetic (FM) clusters. With application of pressure, the rhombohedral phase gradually transforms into a cubic one. At room temperature and the highest applied pressure of 16 GPa, the cubic phase accounts for 70% of the sample volume. Quantum mechanical modeling confirmed the experimental findings and provided more insights into the structural and magnetic phase transitions at pressures exceeding 16 GPa. While the cubic crystal structure was preserved above 10 GPa, the AFM to FM phase transition was found at around 16 GPa. Further increase of the pressure resulted in suppression of magnetic order above 45 GPa. Using density functional theory (DFT)+U calculations, we were able to relate macroscopic magnetic properties induced by pressure with corresponding spin-state transitions in Co ions.

Prior to the deep learning era, shape was commonly used to describe the objects. Nowadays, state-of-the-art (SOTA) algorithms in medical imaging are predominantly diverging from computer vision, where voxel grids, meshes, point clouds, and implicit surface models are used. This is seen from numerous shape-related publications in premier vision conferences as well as the growing popularity of ShapeNet (about 51,300 models) and Princeton ModelNet (127,915 models). For the medical domain, we present a large collection of anatomical shapes (e.g., bones, organs, vessels) and 3D models of surgical instrument, called MedShapeNet, created to facilitate the translation of data-driven vision algorithms to medical applications and to adapt SOTA vision algorithms to medical problems. As a unique feature, we directly model the majority of shapes on the imaging data of real patients. As of today, MedShapeNet includes 23 datasets with more than 100,000 shapes that are paired with annotations (ground truth). Our data is freely accessible via a web interface and a Python application programming interface (API) and can be used for discriminative, reconstructive, and variational benchmarks as well as various applications in virtual, augmented, or mixed reality, and 3D printing. Exemplary, we present use cases in the fields of classification of brain tumors, skull reconstructions, multi-class anatomy completion, education, and 3D printing. A series of carbazole-dendronized tris(2,4,6-trichlorophenyl)methyl (TTM) radicals have been synthesized. The photophysical properties of dendronized radicals up to the fourth generation were compared systematically to understand how structure–property relationships evolve with generation. The photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY) was found to increase with the increasing generation, and the fourth generation (G4TTM) in cyclohexane solution showed a PLQY as high as 63 % at a wavelength of 627 nm (in the deep-red region) from the doublet state. The dendron modification strategy also showed a blue-shift of the emission on increasing the generation number, and the photostability was also increased compared to the bare TTM radical.

The classic K-Nearest Neighbor (KNN) classification algorithm is widely used in text classification. This paper proposes an efficient algorithm for text classification by improving the traditional TF-IDF based KNN text classification algorithm. In addition, the MapReduce parallel implementation of the new algorithm on the Hadoop platform is introduced to improve the capacity of the KNN algorithm to process large data sets. The experimental results show that the new algorithm implemented through MapReduce not only improves the classification accuracy, but also has the advantages of fast convergence and good scalability.

A structural modeling approach to the solid-solution materials based on the similar atomic environment

Solid solution is an important way to enhance the structural and functional performances of materials. In this work, we develop a new structural modeling approach to solid-solution materials. Firstly, the description of atomic environment (AE) of an atom on sublattice in solid solution is introduced based on the concepts of atom cluster and lattice cluster. The average atomic environment of elements in the same sublattice for a certain supercell configuration could be calculated and the similarity to the desired fully disordered or short-range ordered (SRO) structure could be quantitatively evaluated. Based on the assumption that the structure model should have similar atomic environment (SAE) of the desired structure, the SAE approach is proposed by transferring the structural modeling for solid solution to an optimization problem in the configuration space. A new type of SRO parameter based on AE is introduced and the SRO could be naturally included in the SAE objective function, which could offer finer description of SRO in solid solution. Secondly, we pay efforts to enhance the practicality and functionality of this approach, including appropriate weight functions for atom clusters, implementation techniques in Metropolis Monte Carlo sampling, and support for all 230 space groups. Furthermore, the newly introduced SRO parameters are treated as constraints of the optimization problem to construct solid solution. Taking the typical quinary CoCrFeMnNi high-entropy alloy, continuous solid-solution binary TaW alloy and ternary CoCrNi medium-entropy alloy with SRO as prototypes, we apply our method in combination with ab initio calculations to investigate the structural properties and compare the calculated results with experiments. Task embedded coordinate update: A realizable framework for multivariate non-convex optimization

We in this paper propose a realizable framework TECU, which embeds task-specific strategies into update schemes of coordinate descent, for optimizing multivariate non-convex problems with coupled objective functions. On one hand, TECU is capable of improving algorithm efficiencies through embedding productive numerical algorithms, for optimizing univariate sub-problems with nice properties. From the other side, it also augments probabilities to receive desired results, by embedding advanced techniques in optimizations of realistic tasks. Integrating both numerical algorithms and advanced techniques together, TECU is proposed in a unified framework for solving a class of non-convex problems. Although the task embedded strategies bring inaccuracies in sub-problem optimizations, we provide a realizable criterion to control the errors, meanwhile, to ensure robust performances with rigid theoretical analyses. By respectively embedding ADMM and a residual-type CNN in our algorithm framework, the experimental results verify both efficiency and effectiveness of embedding task-oriented strategies in coordinate descent for solving practical problems.
