Over the past couple of decades, we have been witnessing an ever increasing dependency of humans on computers and consequently software. Some of these software are governing the working of very safety-critical domains, like medicine and military. This transition has brought up software testing to ensure that the software behave as intended. With the growing complexity of software, software testing has also revolutionized in the past couple of decades. This paper surveys the recent trends in software testing and provides comprehensive tutorial about black and white-box testing. Moreover, an analysis of different commercial tools in this domain is also presented.

With the ever growing complexity of hardware designs, their functional verification has become quite a challenge. Despite other techniques like emulation and formal verification methods, simulation continues to be the most common and primary technique to functionally verify the hardware design written in Verilog. Due to the limited computational resources, exhaustive testing of the present-age complex hardware designs is not possible. This makes the selection of vectors very important. However, manual selection of test vectors has often resulted in biased testing and their is always a risk of missing some important corner case. Random testing may solve this problem but manual development of random test generation is a time consuming task. The main contribution of this paper is to facilitate the testbench development task as it presents an automatic random test bench generator tool, VerTGen, for Verilog models. VerTGen has a user friendly GUI and supports all the major probability distributions and can be used to create test benches for both combinational and sequential circuits. For illustration, the paper presents the test bench creation process of a shift register using VerTGen.

The Improved Characteristics of Bionic Gabor Representations by Combining with SIFT Key-points for Iris Recognition

Gabor filters are generally regarded as the most bionic filters corresponding to the visual perception of human. Their filtered coefficients thus are widely utilized to represent the texture information of irises. However, these wavelet-based iris representations are inevitably being misaligned in iris matching stage. In this paper, we try to improve the characteristics of bionic Gabor representations of each iris via combining the local Gabor features and the key-point descriptors of Scale Invariant Feature Transformation （SIFT）, which respectively simulate the process of visual object class recognition in frequency and spatial domains. A localized approach of Gabor features is used to avoid the blocking effect in the process of image division, meanwhile a SIFT key point selection strategy is provided to remove the noises and probable misaligned key points. For the combination of these iris features, we propose a support vector regression based fusion rule, which may fuse their matching scores to a scalar score to make classification decision. The experiments on three public and self-developed iris datasets validate the discriminative ability of our multiple bionic iris features, and also demonstrate that the fusion system outperforms some state-of-the-art methods.

Traditional researchers and analyzers have fixated on developing sundry patent quality indicators only, but these indicators do not have further prognosticating power on incipient patent applications or publications. Therefore, the data mining (DM) approaches are employed in this paper to identify and to classify the new patent’s quality in time. An automatic patent quality analysis and classification system, namely SOM-KPCA-SVM, is developed according to patent quality indicators and characteristics, respectively. First, the model will cluster patents published before into different quality groups according to the patent quality indicators and defines group quality type instead of via experts. Then, the support vector machine (SVM) is used to build up the patent quality classification model. The proposed SOM-KPCA-SVM is applied to classify patent quality automatically in patent data of the thin film solar cell. Experimental results show that our proposed system can capture the analysis effectively compared with traditional manpower approach. © Springer International Publishing Switzerland 2016.

SAR remote sensing has been expected as an efficient rice crop monitoring tool due to its flexible operability with wide swath. Though many researchers have intensively analysed the backscatter, there still exist non-negligible mysteries to extract physical parameters. To solve the problems, it is essential to conduct theoretical characterization of experimentally obtained radar backscatter from rice paddies. In this paper, the rice paddies were observed by a high resolution X-band SAR, Polarimetric and Interferometric SAR 2 (Pi-SAR2), by systematically varying the observation parameters such as incidence angle and polarization. The obtained features based on many sample points in Niigata city indicate that the dominant scattering mechanisms are gradually varied in terms of incidence angles.

Scattering component decomposition techniques for POLSAR data are powerful tool for the POLSAR data analysis. The three component decomposition technique is the one of the major technique among them. However, the algorithm requires several assumptions to solve the problem because of the lack of independent observables. To overcome this difficulty, we have proposed the multi-baseline POLSAR scattering component decomposition technique which utilizes the concept of the MUSIC algorithm with spatial smoothing preprocessing (SSP) scheme. However resolution performance depends on the decorrelation performance by the SSP. In this report, we propose several enhanced schemes for the SSP, and show some experimental results to show their performance.

The trustworthiness of cyber-physical systems is a critical factor for establishing wide-spread adoption of these systems. Hence, especially the behavior of safety-critical software components needs to be monitored and managed during system operation. Runtime trustworthiness maintenance should be planned and prepared in early requirements and design phases. This involves the identification of threats that may occur and affect user's trust at runtime, as well as related controls that can be executed to mitigate the threats. Furthermore, observable and measureable system quality properties have to be identified as indicators of threats, and interfaces for reporting these properties as well as for executing controls have to be designed and implemented. This paper presents a process model for preparing and designing systems for runtime trustworthiness maintenance, which is supported by several tools that facilitate the tasks to be performed by requirements engineers and system designers. A new clustering algorithm of hybrid strategy optimization

Normally, improving the performance of clustering depends on improvement of the algorithm. On the basis, this paper presents a hybrid strategy optimization algorithm that K-means algorithm effectively combined with PSO algorithm, which not only has played their respective advantages, but also reflected a hybrid performance. First of all, combined with a semi-supervised clustering idea, to optimize the clustering center of particle by K - means in the iteration of algorithm, enhanced the searching capability of the particles. Secondly, improved the traditional K - means enhance the ability of the algorithm to deal with the concave and convex points. Finally, the algorithm is introduced into the particle state determination mechanism, on implementing mutation for unstable particles, so that the algorithm to obtain stable performance. Experimental results show that the hybrid algorithm optimization ability is outstanding, and the convergence and stability can be effectively improved. © 2015 SERSC.

The diagnosability of a system is defined as the maximum number of faulty processors that the system can guarantee to identify, which plays an important role in measuring of the reliability of multiprocessor systems. In the work of Peng et al. in 2012, they proposed a new measure for fault diagnosis of systems, namely, g-good-neighbor conditional diagnosability. It is defined as the diagnosability of a multiprocessor system under the assumption that every fault-free node contains at least g fault-free neighbors, which can measure the reliability of interconnection networks in heterogeneous environments more accurately than traditional diagnosability. The k-ary n-cube is a family of popular networks. In this study, we first investigate and determine the R g -connectivity of k-ary n-cube for 0 ≤ g ≤ n. Based on this, we determine the g-good-neighbor conditional diagnosability of k-ary n-cube under the PMC model and MM model for k ≥ 4, n ≥ 3 and 0 ≤ g ≤ n. Our study shows the g-good-neighbor conditional diagnosability of k-ary n-cube is several times larger than the classical diagnosability of k-ary n-cube.
