Transient fuel performance analysis of UO_(2)–BeO fuel with composite SiC coated with Cr cladding based on multiphysics method

The transient multiphysics models were updated in CAMPUS to evaluate the accident-tolerant fuel performance under accident *** is a fuel performance code developed based on *** simulated results of the UO_(2)–Zircaloy fuel performance under accident conditions were compared with those of the FRAPTRAN code and the experimental data to verify the correctness of the updated ***,multiphysics models of the UO_(2)–BeO fuel and composite SiC coated with Cr(SiC_(f)/SiC-Cr)cladding were implemented in ***,the fuel performance of the three types of fuel cladding systems under Loss of Coolant Accident(LOCA)and Reactivity Insertion Accident(RIA)conditions was evaluated and compared,including the temperature distribution,stress distribution,pressure evolution,and cladding failure *** results showed that the fuel temperature of the UO_(2) fuel under accident conditions without pre-irradiation was lower after being combined with SiC_(f)/SiC-Cr ***,the centerline and outer surface temperatures of the UO_(2)–BeO fuel combined with SiC_(f)/SiC-Cr cladding reduced further under accident *** cladding temperature increased after the combination with the SiC_(f)/SiC-Cr cladding under accident conditions with *** addition,the use of SiC_(f)/SiC-Cr cladding significantly reduced the cladding hoop strain and plenum pressure.

Exoskeleton robots, as tangible designs within the computer-human interaction (CHI) field, hold significant potential for enhancing human performance in activities such as walking, running, and ascending or descending stairs. However, misalignments between the human body and the exoskeleton can lead to discomfort due to undesired torques and relative motion. This study seeks to improve human-exoskeleton interaction (HEI) by optimizing the mechanism design to ensure better alignment. The study begins with an analysis of the degrees of freedom in the hip exoskeleton robot (HER), followed by kinematic and dynamic simulations of HEI. Experimental results indicate that the designed HER achieves misalignment compensation (MC) displacements ranging from 0 to 18.075 mm. When compared to HER assistance without MC, the proposed design increases assistance efficiency by 42%, significantly enhancing wearing comfort. This work lays the groundwork for the integration of advanced sensing and intelligent control systems into exoskeleton mechanisms, paving the way for broader applications in rehabilitation and motion enhancement. © 2024 IEEE.

Rapid diagnostic method for transplutonium isotope production in high flux reactors

Transplutonium isotopes are scarce and need to be produced by irradiation in high flux ***,their production is inefficient,and optimization studies are *** study analyzes the physical nature of transplutonium isotope produc-tion using ^(252)Cf,^(244)Cm,^(242)Cm,and ^(238)Pu as *** methods based on the Monte Carlo burnup calculation have the limitations of many calculations and cannot analyze the individual energy intervals in detail;thus,they cannot sup-port the refined evaluation,screening,and optimization of the irradiation *** understanding the physical nature and simplifying the complexity of the production process,we propose a rapid diagnostic method for evaluating radiation schemes based on the concepts“single energy interval value(SEIV)”and“energy spectrum total value(ESTV)”.The rapid diagnostic method not only avoids tedious burnup calculations,but also provides a direction for *** optimal irradiation schemes for producing ^(252)Cf,^(244)Cm,^(242)Cm,and ^(238)Pu are determined based on a rapid diagnostic *** irradiation schemes can significantly improve production *** with the initial scheme,the optimal scheme improved the production efficiency of ^(238)Pu by 7.41 times;^(242)Cm,11.98 times;^(244)Cm,65.20 times;and ^(252)Cf,15.08 ***,a refined analysis of transplutonium isotope production is conducted and provides a theoretical basis for improving production efficiency.

Loop detection is essential for a simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM) system. For LiDAR SLAM, most of existing methods only extract geometrically-based features to search loops, which may lead to false positives when dealing with geometrically similar scenes in different locations, such as corridors with similar layouts on different floors in indoor environments. In this work, we propose a novel global descriptor, hybrid triangle descriptor (HTD), for 3D loop detection. HTD extracts corner keypoints and plane keypoints based on the structural information and the distribution of point intensity on the plane, and then builds geometry triangle descriptors and intensity triangle descriptors based on these keypoints. The triangle descriptors are invariant to translation and rotation, and can provide precise 6- DoF transformation between two loop frames. Besides, we propose an adaptive voxelization strategy to better extract keypoints and employ a hybrid scoring method to enhance the robustness of HTD. In our experiments, we compare our method against other state-of-the-art methods on public outdoor and indoor datasets (i.e., KITTI and TIERS) and our self-collected indoor dataset collected by a solid-state LiDAR. The results show that our method outperforms other state-of-the-art methods on most scenarios, especially on indoor scenarios. © 2024 IEEE.

For content-creating work that combines music and video, this study considers improving the efficiency of the video selection process by estimating in advance how much the impression of the music will change with the addition of video. We paid attention to the amount of information had by both the music and videos and assumed that the impression change degree of music when video is combined to music, is determined by the interrelationship between the diversity or complexity of information of music and videos. In this paper, we expressed the amount of information using the cumulative contribution ratio (CCR) of principal component analysis (PCA) and analyzed the relationship between the CCR of each music and video and the impression change degree when the music and video are combined. As results, (1) The music that CCR of the lower-order component is higher - the amount of information is less - , the impression change more when video was combined. (2) The video image that CCR is higher, that affect to the music impression more strongly. These results suggest that the CCR of PCA would be a useful indicator for estimating the impression change degree of music when video is added. © 2023 IEEE.

To evaluate Q–Δ resonance, which is a torsional resonance phenomenon caused by geometric non-linearity, we proposed a simplified model for an n-story non-eccentric building model with a shear-type structure. We designed and fabricated a four-story small-scale specimen assuming a non-eccentric steel structure with a height of 324 m, and conducted shaking table tests. As a result, the occurrence of Q–Δ resonance was confirmed as predicted by the simplified model. In addition, the simplified model reproduced the resonance amplitude in a finite element model of the specimen with the out-of-plane rotation of slabs constrained and its validity was confirmed. © 2023 Authors. There is a striking difference in the domain of environmental consciousness: a large amount of greenhouse gases is produced by commercial buildings compared to what is commonly perceived in the transportation sector. The International Panel on Climate Change has labelled buildings as the third largest contributor of greenhouse emissions with at least 17.5%, whereas the aviation industry merely contributes 2%. Hence, there is an urgent need to decarbonize buildings to enhance sustainability, a sound path towards mitigating effects of climate change. Moreover, continued power supply to critical buildings such as hospitals and airports, is important to ensure life safety of their users. Power outages in such buildings disrupt operations resulting to substantial financial losses. For instance, the 2017 outage at the Hartsfield Jackson Atlanta Airport in the United States demonstrated the result — a 11-hour period without power which brought Delta airlines about $50M estimated in loss. From a system-of-systems perspective, this paper investigates decarbonizing of buildings and infrastructure by considering aspects of sustainability, resiliency, and a ordability. A detailed account of scenarios involving power outages, building HVAC systems and the demand of electric vehicles is balanced against the amount of power from the main grid and distributed energy resources including photovoltaics, storage systems and power generators. The aim of this study is to provide a financially optimum combination of grid energy and DERs (Distributed Energy Resources). As such, this study utilizes a proposed methodology that employs use of multi-variate regression models to integrate a building HVAC system modeled using Simcenter Amesim in a representative thermal envelope with an optimization tool developed by the US National Renewable Energy Laboratory. Surface-PMSM Sensorless Control Strategy Based on Reduced-Order Linear Kalman Filter Cooperating with Prediction Error Rolling Compensation

Kalman filter (KF) is increasingly attracted for sensorless control of surface permanent magnet synchronous motors (SPMSMs) due to its strong robustness against measurement and system noise. However, conventional method suffers from poor position and speed estimation accuracy under dynamic conditions, and high computational cost. In order to solve these problems, an enhanced sensorless control strategy based on reduced-order linear Kalman filter (RLKF) cooperating with prediction error rolling compensation is introduced in this paper. Differing from conventional method, a reduced-order linear state equation encompassing rotor position, speed and torque disturbance is constructed. Then, by obtaining the prediction error of system output using the motor current equation in the predictive reference frame, the optimal estimation of rotor position and speed in KF algorithm is achieved based on the reduced-order model. This not only simplifies the calculation process, but also enhances the position and speed estimation accuracy under dynamic conditions. Meanwhile, a prediction error rolling compensation algorithm is developed to minimize the estimation deviations caused by motor parameters variations. Additionally, the system's dynamic performance is further improved with an adopted speed controller based on torque disturbance feedforward and acceleration feedback. Finally, experimental results verify the effectiveness and feasibility of the proposed strategy.1 © 1986-2012 IEEE.

A numerical method for predicting bursting strength of composite rocket motor case considering filament winding process-induced stress

A numerical method to predict the bursting strength of filament wound composite rocket motor case is proposed *** method can evaluate the longitudinal stress evolution of each composite layer as impregnated filaments with fiber tension are wound layer by layer,and consider the effects of accumulated stress and deformation during filament winding on the bursting strength of composite ***∅520 mm composite cases as a case study,the filament-winding-process-induced stress and deformation as well as progressive damage behavior are numerically predicted,followed by a comparison with experimental *** numerical results show that the predicted bursting pressures for composite cases manufactured on the mandrels with and without a flexible component are 14.20 MPa and 21.40 MPa,*** values exhibit slight deviation from the measured pressures of 13.50 MPa and 21.57 ***,the predicted damage locations,situated respectively in the dome and cylinder,agree well with the experimental *** observations indicate that use of flexible component reduces the load-bearing capacity of the ***,it validates the reliability and accuracy of the proposed numerical method in predicting the bursting strength of composite cases.
