Container based microservices have been widely applied to promote the cloud elasticity. The mainstream Docker containers are structured in layers, which are organized in stack with bottom-up dependency. To start a microservice, the required layers are pulled from a remote registry and stored on its host server, following the layer dependency order. This incurs long microservice startup time and hinders the performance efficiency. In this paper, we discover that, for the first time, the layer pulling order can be adjusted to accelerate the microservice startup. Specifically, we address the problem on microservice layer pulling orchestration for startup time minimization and prove it as NP-hard. We propose a Longest-chain based Out-of-order layer Pulling Orchestration (LOPO) strategy with low computational complexity and guaranteed approximation ratio. Through extensive real-world trace driven experiments, we verify the efficiency of our LOPO and demonstrate that it reduces the microservice startup time by 22.71% on average in comparison with state-of-the-art solutions.

This paper presents the computational intelligence (CI) and artificial intelligence (AI)–fuzzy markup language (CI&AI-FML) learning model, called the CI&AI-FML human and machine co-learning model, for pre-university students to experience and practice CI&AI-FML. Since 2019, we have engaged much in interacting and working with teachers to teach pre-university students the basic concepts of computational intelligence, such as fuzzy sets and evolutionary computing in real-world applications. To inspire and encourage more pre-university students to attend these CI&AI-FML learning and experience activities, we organized a CI&AI-FML Machine Learning Competition @ IEEE WCCI 2022 and a workshop on AI-FML Robotic Learning with AIoT (AI of Things) Applications @ 2022 IEEE CIS Summer school in Taiwan. In these events, we prepare the key but simple concepts of the CI for pre-university students learning and practice, for example, learners can practice AI-FML learning tools with Augmented Creativity (AR) and Google Teachable Machine to travel recommendation applications. From the experimental results, this kind of learning model is suitable for pre-university students to experience and practice CI for real-world applications. Task assignment is a challenging problem in mobile crowdsensing (MCS), especially since workers and tasks are online. Existing work does not consider the portrait of the workers when assigning tasks, which may result in workers being assigned to fields they are not familiar with, thus affecting the quality of task completion. In this paper, we focus on online scenarios and identify a more practical task assignment problem, a two-sided (workers and tasks) online task assignment problem based on worker portrait in MCS. We decompose this problem into two subproblems: the worker portrait analysis problem (WPA) and the two-sided online personalized assignment problem (TOPA). To solve the WPA problem, we propose a worker portrait analysis algorithm that uses the semi-supervised model to describe the worker portrait at a fine-grained level. Then, based on the worker portrait, we propose a two-sided online personalized assignment algorithm to solve the TOPA problem. The proposed algorithm guarantees a lower bound on the assignment results by analyzing the worker portrait data. Moreover, we prove the TOPA problem is NP-hard and demonstrate the competitive ratio can achieve ln(max(u i,j )+1). Finally, we conduct extensive experiments on two datasets, and the experimental results show that our method outperforms baseline algorithms.

Recent breakthroughs in computer vision have led to the invention of several intelligent systems in different sectors. In transportation, this advancement led to the possibility of proposing autonomous vehicles. This recent technology relies heavily on wireless sensors and Deep learning. For an autonomous vehicle to navigate safely on highways, the vehicle needs equipment to aid with detecting road anomalies such as potholes ahead of time. The massive improvement in computer vision models such as Deep Convolutional Neural networks (DCNN) or vision transformers (ViT) resulted in many success stories and tremendous breakthroughs in object detection tasks;this enabled the use of such models in different application areas. But many of the reported results are theoretical and unrealistic in real-life. Usually, the nature of these models is extensive;they are trained on High-performance computers or cloud computing environments with GPUs, which challenge their usage on edge devices. However, to come up with a light model that can fit into embedded devices, the model size has to be reduced significantly so that the performance will not be affected. Therefore, this paper proposes a lightweight model of pothole detection for an embedded device. The model achieved a state-of-the-art accuracy of 98%, with the number of parameters reduced to more than 70% compared with a deep CNN model;the model can be trained and deployed on embedded devices such as smartphones efficiently. © 2022 The authors and IOS Press. This paper contributes a sophisticated statistical method for the assessment of performance in routing protocols salient Mobile Ad Hoc Network(MANET)routing protocols:Destination Sequenced Distance Vector(DSDV),Ad hoc On-Demand Distance Vector(AODV),Dynamic Source Routing(DSR),and Zone Routing Protocol(ZRP).In this paper,the evaluation will be carried out using complete sets of statistical tests such as Kruskal-Wallis,Mann-Whitney,and *** articulates a systematic evaluation of how the performance of the previous protocols varies with the number of nodes and the mobility *** study is premised upon the Quality of Service(QoS)metrics of throughput,packet delivery ratio,and end-to-end delay to gain an adequate understanding of the operational efficiency of each protocol under different network *** findings explained significant differences in the performance of different routing protocols;as a result,decisions for the selection and optimization of routing protocols can be taken effectively according to different network *** paper is a step forward in the general understanding of the routing dynamics of MANETs and contributes significantly to the strategic deployment of robust and efficient network infrastructures.

机器学习因其能够快速、精准拟合数据的潜在模式而被广泛应用于材料构效关系研究。然而,材料科学家往往需要进行繁琐的模型选择及参数寻优才能构建出高精度预测模型,为了解放材料机器学习"调参师",本文研发了基于元学习的材料性能自动预测器,采集了60份文献公开数据集与60份标准数据集,基于此训练18种常用回归算法并获得其预测性能,定义与计算了27个刻画数据集特点的元特征,以此构建了一份蕴含建模经验的元数据集;同时,创建了表征数据集所属材料类型的类别树,将其嵌入基于距离的元学习算法,进一步耦合贝叶斯优化算法,实现领域知识和元数据协同驱动下的自动算法推荐和模型参数确定,实验结果表明,材料科学家仅需为新材料性能预测任务提供数据集,便可利用该预测器高效地构建具有与文献报道相当或更高预测精度的机器学习模型.

Wireless Power Transfer (WPT) used for charging of electric vehicles (EVs), suffers from the problem of misalignment. In this paper metaheuristic optimizing techniques are used to increase the misalignment tolerance of the receiver coil. This is done by optimizing the length of each turn of the transmitter coil such that a uniform magnetic field density is produced over the charging area, which is kept 26% higher than the transmitting coil area which further aids to accommodate misalignment of the receiver coil. Differential Evolution (DE), Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) and Artificial Bee Colony (ABC) optimization algorithms are used to obtain the lengths of all the turns of the transmitter coil. These algorithms are also compared by varying the number of turns while keeping the number of iterations to a fixed value. © 2023 IEEE.

Multi-path TCP (MPTCP) is a network protocol that has the potential to enhance network performance, which is crucial in grid computing systems to improve the overall system's performance. It utilizes multiple network paths between machines to achieve a high network performance. This protocol can also improve the connectivity of multiple servers that may be in different data centers by combining multiple network paths. One of the main issues of MPTCP is the path for ACK (acknowledgment) packets, which take the same path where original packets come from. When networks have different round trip times (RTTs), MPTCP may dispatch the ACK packet through a longer path, which is inefficient. HayACK solves this issue by selecting the path with the least RTTs. However, HayACK may suffer from inconsistent packets because of middleboxes, which are intermediary devices between the source and the destination that process network packets. These middleboxes may discard MPTCP packets because of inconsistent sequence numbers of HayACK packets, which is a product of HayACK's path selection. This study aims to investigate the usefulness of HayACK for high-performance data transfer when using multiple paths in real network environments and the influence of middleboxes on HayACK. Our investigation was conducted using various network paths by preparing many client hosts with different IP addresses and one server. The influence of middleboxes is determined by checking the probe packets passed through, changed, or discarded. Current issues with neuromorphic visual-tactile perception include limited training network representation and inadequate cross-modal fusion. To address these two issues, we proposed a dual network called visual-tactile spiking graph neural network (VT-SGN) that combines graph neural networks and spiking neural networks to jointly utilize the neuromorphic visual and tactile source data. First, the neuromorphic visual-tactile data were expanded spatiotemporally to create a taxel-based tactile graph in the spatial domain, enabling the complete exploitation of the irregular spatial structure properties of tactile information. Subsequently, a method for converting images into graph structures was proposed, allowing the vision to be trained alongside graph neural networks and extracting graph-level features from the vision for fusion with tactile data. Finally, the data were expanded into the time domain using a spiking neural network to train the model and propagate it backwards. This framework effectively utilizes the structural differences between sample instances in the spatial dimension to improve the representational power of spiking neurons, while preserving the biodynamic mechanism of the spiking neural network. Additionally, it effectively solves the morphological variance between the two perceptions and further uses complementary data between visual and tactile. To demonstrate that our approach can improve the learning of neuromorphic perceptual information, we conducted comprehensive comparative experiments on three datasets to validate the benefits of the proposed VT-SGN framework by comparing it with state-of-the-art studies. © 2008-2011 IEEE.

In computed tomography (CT) X-ray imaging technology, the multi-energy window setting offers greater advantages in material decomposition and image quality. A traditional multi-energy discrimination photon counting circuit is typically implemented by a multiple-discriminator scheme, which employs multiple comparators to generate pulse signals and drives multiple counters for photon counting, within a single channel to implement the division of different energy windows. However, area overhead and static power consumption of each channel are significantly increased when the number of energy windows increases. This paper presents a novel circuit scheme based on peak detector voltage signals digitized by a successive approximation (SAR) analog-to-digital converter (ADC). The number of comparators will not increase with the extension of energy windows. A 32-channel front-end readout application-specific integrated circuit (ASIC) is designed in $0.35 \mu \mathrm{m}$ CMOS process with a die area of $4.8 \mathrm{~mm} \times 4.8 \mathrm{~mm}$. A charge-sensitive amplifier, a CR-RC pulse shaper, a gain amplifier, an event-driven peak detector and a 4-bit SAR ADC are integrated into each channel to discriminate and count incoming photon information through eight energy windows with a dynamic range of from 3 keV to 80 keV. The simulated equivalent noise charge is $53 \mathrm{e}^{-}$(rms) plus $4 \mathrm{e}^{-} / \mathrm{pF}$. The count rate is up to 1 Mcps under the power dissipation of about $4.9 \mathrm{~mW} /$ channel with a supply voltage of 3.3 V. The area overhead of the proposed circuit is shrunk by 5 times, and power consumption is reduced by 22%, compared with traditional multiple energy discrimination counting circuits.
