To ensure the sustainability of their operations, higher education institutions have to establish a robust strategic plan. Higher education institutions have an obligation to continuously assess the quality of their educational offerings in every program to comply with the standards established by the government and other educational entities. The implementation of intelligent decision support systems is a feasible approach among other techniques for addressing the aforementioned challenges. An intelligent decision support system has the potential to enable the business to uphold its adherence to regulations, enhance operational effectiveness, and optimize overall performance. This study aimed to determine the current state of intelligent decision support systems through the implementation of a comprehensive literature review. The second goal is to evaluate the best practices, methods, and implementation of intelligent decision support systems within higher education institutions. The findings indicate that intelligent decision support systems have the capacity to serve as a viable option for higher education, particularly in terms of enhancing the accuracy and efficiency of decision-making processes. Intelligent decision support systems exhibit a strong correlation with the fields of data mining and computational intelligence techniques. Nevertheless, the amount of research conducted on this subject is limited. © 2023 IEEE.

Reuse of sodium–doped iridium oxide nanoparticles as a bio–stimulating electrode by a chemical and electrochemical recovery process

A sequential chlorination and electrochemical reduction process is demonstrated to convert Na–doped iridium oxide nanoparticles into useful IrIIICl63−(aq) serving as the precursor for the fabrication of bio–stimulating electrode. The Na–doped iridium oxide nanoparticles are treated in 35 wt% hydrochloric acid at 70 °C for 18 h to form IrIVCl62−(aq) with pH of 0.3, so the latter could be readily reduced to IrIIICl63−(aq) at a potentiostatic mode of 0.6 V (vs. SCE). The oxidation state and the nature of complexing ligands for the regenerated IrIIICl63− and IrIVCl62−, as well as commercially available IrIIICl63− are validated by X–ray Absorption Spectroscopy. UV–Vis profiles of regenerated IrIVCl62−(aq) are recorded and the absorbance at 487 nm signal is benchmarked against that of standard IrIVCl62−(aq) to obtain the effective regeneration ratio of 68.6%. X–ray diffraction patterns of Na–doped iridium oxide nanoparticles before and after the annealing treatment indicate the amorphous structure facilitates the chlorination step. The regenerated IrIIICl63− is reused to synthesize Na–doped iridium oxide thin film serving as a bio–stimulating electrode for implantable bio–electronics. The regenerated Na–doped iridium oxide thin film reveals a charge-storage capacity of 0.32 mC/cm2-nm and impressive stability that are comparable to those of fresh Na–doped iridium oxide thin film derived from commercially available IrIIICl63−. © 2023 Elsevier Ltd and Techna Group S.r.l.

Blockchain technology originated alongside Bitcoin as a novel method of conducting financial transactions. It has garnered significant attention from both industry and academia in recent years, emerging as a prominent area of research. It is a decentralized record-keeping system that holds transactional information. The scale of a blockchain network expands according to the growth in the number of nodes and transactions, resulting in issues related to storage capacity, data processing speed, and time delay. These issues have a direct impact on the scalability of a blockchain network. Currently, scalability is one of the prominent concerns in the field of blockchain technology and an active research area. This study conducts a comprehensive survey of the scalability challenges faced by blockchain technology in several sectors. It also examines potential solutions based on consensus mechanisms, smart contracts and directed acyclic graph (DAG). It is observed that the proposed scalability solutions target enhancing system throughput, reducing costs, and improving blockchain efficiency. Therefore, we examine, compare, and evaluate the literature using these specific criteria. Moreover, a survey of existing blockchain based survey papers is presented. A comparative analysis of these survey papers is presented along with their recency score, which is determined by the number of recent publications reviewed in a survey paper. By 'recent,' we mean the current year (or the publication year of a survey paper) and the three years prior to it. Additionally, this paper offers an elaborate discussion on the forthcoming open research challenges and applications of blockchain. © 2013 IEEE.

Wireless Sensor and Internet of Things (WSIoT) networks are characterized by nodes scattered throughout the environment, posing a significant challenge when it comes to battery replacement. The task of developing an algorithm that effectively reduces energy consumption in IoT networks through the utilization of artificial intelligence and fuzzy logic is a formidable one. Heuristic algorithms emerge as valuable tools in this context, capable of swiftly addressing non-deterministic polynomial problems or approximating optimal solutions with remarkable accuracy. Conversely, mathematical optimization approaches often falter due to their sluggishness or inefficiency, rendering them less suited for the dynamic demands of IoT networks. This study embarks on a novel approach, leveraging the synergy of fuzzy clustering to intricately connect sensors to the network and particle optimization to approximate the initial values of head clusters within the realm of WSIoT. A comprehensive evaluation of our proposed strategy is meticulously conducted through extensive simulations utilizing the NS2 simulator. In this evaluation, we distinguish our algorithm from existing methods, including IoTbWSN and REcsIoT. The results of this comparative analysis are illuminating. In contrast to other methodologies, our proposed approach demonstrates a notable 9.57% improvement in network throughput and a substantial 8.47% reduction in energy consumption. This signifies a remarkable leap forward in the quest to address the challenges posed by energy consumption and battery replacement within the complex landscape of IoT networks. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature 2023.

The Internet of Vehicles (IoV), equipped with sensors, generates vast amounts of data, demanding rigorous computation and network. The cloud computing platform meets these stringent computation requirements, but it has a significant latency that fog computing effectively handles. Software Defined Network (SDN) has become the de facto standard for next-generation networking due to its unique and flexible features, which handle the network pre-requisites in an agile manner. Task Offloading (TO) is a crucial issue in Software Defined-IoV (SDIoV), particularly when the vehicle's resources are insufficient. Fog nodes schedule offloaded tasks;however, neglecting computational and network details during task scheduling can lead to longer completion times, thereby restricting the functionality of SD-IoV due to its time-sensitive nature. Therefore, this paper introduces two proactive Intelligent Task Offloading (ITO' and ITO) schemes. These schemes schedule tasks onto fog nodes with enhanced computational capabilities, dynamically enable the network through the ovs-ofctl SDN utility, and consider vehicle mobility during task scheduling. Experiments with Mininet show that the proposed (ITO' and ITO) schemes improve performance in terms of CPU availability, bandwidth, and throughput by 5.2 times, 50% and (30.7-13.9)% more than the existing scheme. They also reduce average packet loss, delay, Round Trip Time (RTT), and offloaded node time selection by (45.35-21.3)%, (50-33.3)%, (53.9-9.9)% and (43.2-26.06)% which demonstrates the efficacy of the proposed scheme. © 2025 IEEE.

In order to achieve analysis and prediction of journal impact factors, we take Nature magazine as an example in this paper. Firstly, we analyze the rationality of model selection by constructing a Generic Extreme Value model. Next, we calculate the return levels under different return periods and compare them with the data from the test years, to analyze the predictive effect of the Generic Extreme Value model on impact factors. Finally, we analyze the stability of the Generic Extreme Value model in different starting years. The results are shown that: (1) The Generic Extreme Value model and the Gumbel Distribution model are feasible to impact factors. The Generic Extreme Value model does not restrict on the shape parameters and has good flexibility. (2) The return levels and the confidence interval of the return levels can predict the impact factors, and as the return periods increase, the accuracy of the prediction gradually decreases. (3) The Generic Extreme Value model is not sensitive to the starting years, and has good stability. © 2023 IEEE.

Navigation is a coordinated and goal-oriented movement through the environment, in which vision is an integral part of acquiring spatial information. People with blindness and vision impairment rely on alternative senses to navigate in daily life. Auditory cues are critical in building a spatial representation and effective navigation. Our work investigates the neurophysiological response to explore how auditory cues can shape a person’s spatial representation and memory of an environment. In our experiment, a person who is blind was presented with verbal and non-verbal cues, either at close-reaching distance or globally. Electroencephalography, walking trajectories and tactile drawing data were collected to evaluate spatial representation and memory formed by different auditory cues and the role of theta oscillations in such relationships. Our results indicated a consistent increase in theta power at turning and starting points, a higher cognitive load with verbal strategies, and enhanced path recollection with global strategies. These findings emphasise the role of theta as a key indicator of cognitive workload and spatial memory processing. The preliminary results contribute to a broader understanding of the underlying processing mechanism of auditory information processing to support spatial navigation. © 2024 Copyright held by the owner/author(s).

Pupillometry measures pupil size, and several open-source algorithms are available to analyse pupillometry data. However, only a few studies compared these algorithms’ accuracy and computational resources. This study aims to compare the accuracy of computer vision-based algorithms (Swirski, Starburst, PuRe, ElSe, ExCuSe algorithms) and the machine learning algorithm, DeepLabCut, to the double-blinded human examiners (gold-standard). Training of DeepLabCut with different architectures and a variable number of markers (2-9 markers) was done on an open-source dataset. The duration of training was statistically longer for the ResNet152 model compared to the MobileNet model. The pupil diameters in computer vision-based software such as PuRe, Starburst, and Swirski were statistically different from human measurements. MobileNet 2 and 3 marker models were the closest to the human measurements. In conclusion, this work highlights the efficiency of lower marker models based on MobileNet architecture in DeepLabCut, which consumes fewer computational resources and is more accurate. © 2024 Institute of Information technology, Warsaw University of Life sciences - SGGW. Car spare parts are parts of a car that consist of components that form a certain unity and function, there are some parts that are damaged more often and therefore must be replaced more often. In this research, to predict the availability of spare parts using the times series moving average prediction method with random forest. The dataset used in this research is 19,068 consisting of location, transaction number, transaction date, part number, quantity and odo-km. Distribution of spare parts classified based on recapitulation of spare part distribution is RAE=54.5541% and RSE=63.8888%, distribution of spare parts based on location is RAE=55.5541% and RSE=65.2118%, maintenance based on ODO-KM is RAE=33.0949% and RSE=41.2241 % and distribution quantity RAE=33.749% and RSE=36.2317%. The results of spare part distribution analysis using the Confusion Matrix with probability accuracy are TP Rate=0.903, FP Rate=0.067, Precision=0.911, Recall=0.903, F-Measure=0.893, MCC=0.857, ROC Area=0.983 and PRC Area=0.948. The aim of this research is to determine the factors needed to build a machine learning-based spare parts distribution model, implementation, measurement and prediction in the automotive industry in Indonesia. © 2023 IEEE.

There has been an effort to construct hierarchical molecular structures that mimic living cells. For this purpose, a microfluidic system to generate monodisperse giant unilamellar vesicles (GUVs) is expected to be a standardized platform. Here, we studied the dynamics of DNA condensate formation, as a mimic of the nucleus, in monodisperse GUVs generated by our microfluidic system. Encapsulated DNA nanostars undergo liquid-liquid phase separation within GUVs in a sequence-dependent manner. We clarified the dependence on time and sticky end (SE) length in addition to the concentration control of components such as DNA oligomers and salt. © 2023 IEEJ.
