Cytokines and chemokines play important roles in inflammation and repair following brain injury. M1 microglia are pro-inflammatory which produce cytokines and lead to neural injury;in contrast, M2 microglia are anti-inflammatory, release neurotrophic factors, and promote neural repair processes. Chemokine CCL5, increased after TBI, shows a neuroprotective function by reducing oxidative stress. CCL5 may contribute to the balance between oxidative stress and immune responses after brain injury. Herein, we investigated the role of CCL5 in microglial polarization after mild traumatic brain injury, focusing on the cerebral cortex.C57BL/6 and CCL5 knockout (CCL5-KO) mice were given a mild traumatic brain injury (TBI) using weight-drop. Neurological parameters such as motor and sensory functions were analyzed by mNSS score, accelerating rotarod, beam walking, and adhesive removal tests. Oxidative stress and neuron damage were measured by NADPH oxidase activity, hypoxyloprobe staining and FJC. Performance of motor and sensory functions in both WT and CCL5-KO mice were impaired after brain injury which recovered after 7 days-post-injury (dpi) in the WT group but only after 14 days in the CCL5-KO mouse group. RT-qPCR analysis revealed that pro-inflammation cytokines - IL-1β, TNF-α, and IL-6 were higher in CCL5-KO mice compared to WT mice at 4 and 14 dpi. In contrast, M2-like microglia markers - IL-10 and Agr-1 were increased in WT mouse cortical tissue at 4 dpi. Oxidative stress increased both M1 and M2- related cytokine expression in BV2 cells treated with H 2 O 2;CCL5 treatment increased M2- but suppressed M1- related cytokine gene activation. Naja atra, the Chinese cobra, is a major cause of snake envenomation in Asia, causing hundreds of thousands of clinical incidents annually. The current treatment, horse serum-derived antivenom, has unpredictable side effects and presents manufacturing challenges. This study focused on developing new-generation snake venom antidotes by using microbial phage display technology to derive nanobodies from an alpaca immunized with attenuated N. atra venom. Following confirmation of the immune response in the alpaca, we amplified VHH genes from isolated peripheral blood mononuclear cells and constructed a phage display VHH library of 1.0 × 107 transformants. After four rounds of biopanning, the enriched phages exhibited increased binding activity to N. atra venom. Four nanobody clones with high binding affinities were selected: aNAH1, aNAH6, aNAH7, and aNAH9. Specificity testing against venom from various snake species, including two Southeast Asian cobra species, revealed nanobodies specific to the genus Naja. An in vivo mouse venom neutralization assay demonstrated that all nanobodies prolonged mouse survival and aNAH6 protected 66.6% of the mice from the lethal dosage. These findings highlight the potential of phage display-derived nanobodies as valuable antidotes for N. atra venom, laying the groundwork for future applications in snakebite treatment. Diabetes mellitus is one of the most rapidly rising chronic diseases around the globe. To combat these rising numbers, active research has been done in recent years to enhance the sensitivity, selectivity, and specificity of glucose biosensors. Despite the easy availability of these enzymatic glucose sensors, these have demonstrated limitations like low stability, short shelf-life, and being easily altered by physical and chemical environmental factors. To overcome these limitations, non-enzymatic sensors, also called fourth-generation glucose sensors, have been developed. These sensors use nanomaterials and do not employ any enzymes therefore exhibit better shelf life, improved sensitivity, and allow for quick detection of glucose without needing additional steps. In recent years, bimetallic nanocomposite-based fourth-generation glucose sensors have gained widespread attention from the scientific community. Owing to the synergistic effect of two distinct metal nanomaterials, these sensors show enhanced reproducibility and excellent stability as compared to monometallic nanomaterials. In this review, we aim to represent a comprehensive overview of the recent developments in the development of bimetallic nanocomposite-based glucose sensors for rapid and accurate glucose detection. After a brief introduction, we discussed the various bimetallic nanomaterials developed in recent years, followed by a discussion on the mechanism of action of such sensors. We then briefly discussed the industrial challenges of developing such sensors and discussed the advantages and disadvantages of bimetallic nanomaterial-based sensors. We finally concluded the review by highlighting the future perspectives of this new and upcoming field. © 2023 Elsevier B.V.

Sports science can have a significant and positive impact on coaches and athletes, as well as for the professional sports organization. According to this situation, more and more organizations are competing to implement sports science as the monitoring systems. Along with the development of technology, it becomes easier for humans to carry out their activities, including communication with each other. Advances in the field of communication technologies have led to the use of social networks to support all activity. With social media, all kinds of information that people want to search for can be found easily. Social networks have their uniqueness in their characteristics. Like LINE has free calling and video calling features, while Instagram has features like Instagram Story, where users can document their activities in the form of photos or recordings. By all the characteristics of social networks, it will support the activity of sports science. The methodology of this research focused on quantitative research based on the T-test approach. The result shows that social media involvement can significantly support collaboration in sports science, so it can increase people's motivation to interact with other participants in sport organizations.

The main aim of this study was to utilize naturally selected Pseudomonas putida strains isolated from activated sludge in a wastewater treatment plant, for the purpose of bioremediation of biogas effluent to remove organic content and color. Biogas effluent from anaerobically digestion of distillery wastewater treated with P. putida at the best evaluated condition (sample concentration of 50% v/v, agitation and aeration rates of 250 rpm and 1.0 vvm for 6 days) showed significant decolorization and organic removal efficacies of 34.29 ± 0.87% and 38.94 ± 0.63%, respectively. Bioremediation efficiency was dependent on bacterial growth which organic content in sample and dissolved oxygen during cultivation were key factors. The natural selected bacterium could tolerate higher organic content and work synergistically with other indigenous microorganisms found in the biogas effluent. Consequently, bioremediation of biogas effluent by natural selected P. putida is feasible to apply in biogas power plant where sterilization is not necessary in the process. © 2023, The Authors. The prototype Large-Sized Telescope (LST-1) of the Cherenkov Telescope Array Observatory (CTAO) is in commissioning phase at the Observatorio del Roque de Los Muchachos at 2200 m a.s.l. in La Palma (Canary Islands, Spain). LST-1 is a 23-m diameter telescope and is the first of four that will compose the LST part of the CTAO Northern array. The LST subarray is optimized to provide the best sensitivity for gamma rays in the 20 GeV - 200 GeV energy range. The MAGIC telescopes, which are located approximately 100 m from the LST-1, is operating as a two 17-m telescope stereoscopic system for more than 14 years. LST-1 and MAGIC routinely perform joint observations of gamma-ray sources to exploit the potential of the three-telescope system. This contribution describes the analysis pipeline and evaluates the performance of the system using Monte Carlo simulations and data on the Crab Nebula. The sensitivity achieved during joint observations with MAGIC and LST-1 is about 30% higher than that of MAGIC alone. © Copyright owned by the author(s) under the terms of the Creative Commons.

In 2015, oncolytic virotherapy was approved for clinical use, and in 2017, recombinant adeno-associated virus (AAV) delivery was also approved. However, systemic administration remains challenging due to the limited number of viruses that successfully reach the target site. Although the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) permits the use of higher doses of AAV to achieve greater rates of transduction, most AAV still accumulates in the liver, potentially leading to toxicity there and elsewhere. Targeting the tumor microenvironment is a promising strategy for cancer treatment due to the critical role of the tumor microenvironment in controlling tumor progression and influencing the response to therapies. Newly discovered evidence indicates that administration routes focusing on the tumor microenvironment can promote delivery specificity and transduction efficacy within the tumor. Here, we review approaches that involve modifying viral surface features, modulating the immune system, and targeting the physicochemical characteristics in tumor microenvironment to regulate therapeutic delivery. Targeting tumor acidosis presents advantages that can be leveraged to enhance virotherapy outcomes and to develop new therapeutic approaches that can be integrated with standard treatments. © 2023 Elsevier Inc.

The use of occupancy information for heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) control in smart buildings has become increasingly important for enhancing energy efficiency and occupant comfort. However, residential HVAC control presents significant challenges due to the complex dynamic nature of buildings and the uncertainties associated with heat loads and weather conditions. This study addresses this gap in adaptive and energy efficient HVAC control by introducing a quantum reinforcement learning (QRL) based approach. Unlike conventional reinforcement learning techniques, QRL leverages quantum computing principles to efficiently handle high dimensional state and action spaces, enabling more precise HVAC control in multi-zone residential buildings. The proposed framework integrates real-time occupancy detection using deep learning with operational data, including power consumption patterns, air conditioner control data, and external temperature variations. To evaluate the effectiveness of the proposed approach, simulations were conducted using real world data from 26 residential households over a three month period. The results demonstrate that the QRL based HVAC control significantly reduces energy consumption and electricity costs while maintaining thermal comfort. Compared to the deep deterministic policy gradient method, the QRL approach achieved a 63% reduction in power consumption and a 64.4% decrease in electricity costs. Similarly, it outperformed the proximal policy optimization algorithm, leading to an average reduction of 62.5% in electricity costs and 62.4% in power consumption.

Theory of Pressure-Induced Rejuvenation and Strain Hardening in Metallic Glasses

We theoretically investigate high-pressure effects on the atomic dynamics of metallic glasses. The theory predicts compression-induced rejuvenation and the resulting strain hardening that have been recently observed in metallic glasses. Structural relaxation under pressure is mainly governed by local cage dynamics. The external pressure restricts the dynamical constraints and slows down the atomic mobility. In addition, the compression induces a rejuvenated metastable state (local minimum) at a higher energy in the free-energy landscape. Thus, compressed metallic glasses can rejuvenate and the corresponding relaxation is reversible. This behavior leads to strain hardening in mechanical deformation experiments. Theoretical predictions agree well with experiments.
