In the modern power market, electricity trading is an extremely competitive industry. More accurate price forecast is crucial to help electricity producers and traders make better decisions. In this paper, a novel method of convolutional neural network (CNN) is proposed to rapidly provide hourly forecasting in the energy market. To improve prediction accuracy, we divide the annual electricity price data into four categories by seasons and conduct training and forecasting for each category respectively. By comparing the proposed method with other existing methods, we find that the proposed model has achieved outstanding results, the mean absolute percentage error (MAPE) and root mean square error (RMSE) for each category are about 5.5% and 3, respectively. In the present study, we indicated that the detection of specific subtypes of circulating tumor microemboli (CTM) in post-operative patients could help predict cancer recurrence. By using conventional strategies for detection of non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) circulating tumor cells, is significantly limited due to inherently heterogeneous and dynamic expression of EpCAM, and degradation of cytokeratins during epithelial-tomesenchymal transition. These lead to non-negligible false negative detection of "uncapturable and invisible" single CTCs. To solve the problem, we investigated the clinical significance of CTM subtypes, including single CTCs, multi-CTCs cluster, and WBC-CTCs cluster on SACA chip for studying cancer metastasis and recurrence in patients with lung adenocarcinoma. © 2020 CBMS-0001

Radar Occupancy Prediction with Lidar Supervision while Preserving Long-Range Sensing and Penetrating Capabilities

Radar shows great potential for autonomous driving by accomplishing long-range sensing under diverse weather conditions. But radar is also a particularly challenging sensing modality due to the radar noises. Recent works have made enormous progress in classifying free and occupied spaces in radar images by leveraging lidar label supervision. However, there are still several unsolved issues. Firstly, the sensing distance of the results is limited by the sensing range of lidar. Secondly, the performance of the results is degenerated by lidar due to the physical sensing discrepancies between the two sensors. For example, some objects visible to lidar are invisible to radar, and some objects occluded in lidar scans are visible in radar images because of the radar's penetrating capability. These sensing differences cause false positive and penetrating capability degeneration, respectively. In this paper, we propose training data preprocessing and polar sliding window inference to solve the issues. The data preprocessing aims to reduce the effect caused by radar-invisible measurements in lidar scans. The polar sliding window inference aims to solve the limited sensing range issue by applying a near-range trained network to the long-range region. Instead of using common Cartesian representation, we propose to use polar representation to reduce the shape dissimilarity between long-range and near-range data. We find that extending a near-range trained network to long-range region inference in the polar space has 4.2 times better IoU than in Cartesian space. Besides, the polar sliding window inference can preserve the radar penetrating capability by changing the viewpoint of the inference region, which makes some occluded measurements seem non-occluded for a pretrained network. Uncertainty is an ever present challenge in life. To meet this challenge in data analysis, we propose a method for detecting anomalies in data. This method, based in part on Variational Autoencoder, identifies spiking raw data by means of spectrum analysis. Time series data are examined in the frequency domain to enhance the detection of anomalies. In this paper, we have used the standard data sets to validate the proposed method. Experimental results show that the comparison of the frequency domain with the original data for anomaly detection can improve validity and accuracy on all criteria. Therefore, analysis of time series data by combining Variational Autoencoder and frequency domain spectrum methods can effectively detect anomalies. Contribution- We have proposed an anomaly detection method based on the time series data analysis by combining Variational Autoencoder and Spectrum analysis, and have benchmarked the method with reference to recent related research.

For k ≥ 1, the k-independence number αk of a graph is the maximum number of vertices that are mutually at distance greater than k. The well-known inertia and ratio bounds for the (1-)independence number α(= α1) of a graph, due to Cvetković and Hoffman, respectively, were generalized recently for every value of k. We show that, for graphs with enough regularity, the polynomials involved in such generalizations are closely related and give exact values for αk, showing a new relationship between the inertia and ratio type bounds. Additionally, we investigate the existence and properties of the extremal case of sets of vertices that are mutually at maximum distance for walk-regular graphs. Finally, we obtain new sharp inertia and ratio type bounds for partially walk-regular graphs by using the predistance polynomials. © 2022, CC BY.

Chronic wounds have a significant impact on patients’ quality of life, necessitating the management of pain, infection, bleeding, and emotional challenges. Debridement, which involves the removal of nonviable tissue, is crucial for promoting wound healing. In addition to surgical methods, cost-effective alternatives such as local solutions and ointments with biological properties have been explored. The use of natural compounds with anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, and collagen-synthesizing abilities holds promise for wound healing. This in vitro and in vivo preclinical study aimed to assess the safety and effectiveness of a wound healing ointment containing bioactive ingredients derived from medicinal plants (extracts, essential oils, and vegetable oils). The chemical composition of the ointment was characterized using Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy to gain insights into its synergistic action. Preclinical tests were conducted following standardized protocols. FTIR analysis revealed similarities between the product’s spectrum and that of bioactive compounds. The in vitro tests demonstrated that all formulations of the ointment induced no cell death, DNA damage, or acute toxicity in cell cultures (p < 0.05). No lethal dose was observed, indicating the safety of the ointment at all concentrations. The ointment also stimulated a notably more organized, significantly higher collagen production compared to control groups (p < 0.05). In vivo preclinical analyses also demonstrated no adverse responses being effective in the healing process compared to the control group (silver sulfadiazine) in terms of wound contraction and ulcer re-epithelization (p < 0.05). Significantly higher means of wound contraction were observed in the groups treated with the bioactive-containing ointment when compared to both the positive control group (sulfadiazine) and the control untreated groups (p < 0.05). In currently used verification systems, different senses are being used as inputs or outputs, such as touch and sight. In a similar way, olfactory media (sense of smell) could be used to take part in the verification method. In this study, an empirical investigation was conducted to study the impact of olfactory data as a data channel on user performance and Quality of Experience (QoE). The olfactory data were used with words in our verification model (PassSmell). To this end, we developed two different versions of applications, namely enhanced-olfactory and none-olfactory, for which a database of words with/without scents were used. Twenty-eight participants were invited to take part in our experiment, evenly split into a control and experimental group. Time and number of failed/successful attempts were recorded. A significant difference was found, in terms of time taken, between the experimental and the control groups, as determined by independent sample t-test. Similar results were found with respect to average scores and number of successful attempts. Regarding user QoE, having olfactory data with words instead of passwords influenced the users positively, which resulted in their being attracted to using this kind of application in the future. © 2019 IEEE.

Digital picture books increase the interest of children in reading and are often used to encourage children to read. In this study, we develop a digital picture book using the augmented reality (AR) technology, which can be referred to as an AR pop-up picture book (AR book). The AR technology is used to prepare and present digital picture books in the AR space. However, developing an AR book requires technical skills and expertise, which are not possessed by common picture book writers. Therefore, we propose a new intuitive method for obtaining editing effects by teaching motions based on the demonstrations of writers using real-world objects. The results of this study denote that the proposed method is useful for achieving editing effects in AR books, enables writers to achieve editing effects in an AR book, and improves the edit accuracy. © 2019 IEEE.

Recent research from economics, psychology, cognitive science, computer science, and marketing is increasingly interested in the idea that people face cognitive costs when making decisions. Reviewing and synthesizing this research, we develop a framework of cognitive costs that organizes concepts along a temporal dimension and maps out when costs occur in the decision-making process and how they impact decisions. Our unifying framework broadens the scope of research on cognitive costs to a wider timeline of cognitive processing. We identify implications and recommendations emerging from our framework for intervening on behavior to tackle some of the most pressing issues of our day, from improving health and saving decisions to mitigating the consequences of climate change. © 2025 Elsevier Ltd

The diffusion of the Augmented Reality framework has facilitated the implementation of a support system for a real world task. This paper introduces a system that supports the Mahjong game for beginners. However, it is difficult to calculate the score for beginners in the real Mahjong game. We develop an offline system to get the score by recognizing the Mahjong tiles. This is a difficult task because Mahjong tiles have classes and attributes that are the context of their positions. The system needs context-aware image recognition. The system detected tiles using OpenCV and Convolutional Neural Network to classify them and self-localization indirectly found in attributes. The experimental results show that the system can be used effectively. © 2019 IEEE.
