As the paradigm of crowdsensing involves the data collection from users, the issue of designing reward to incentivize the users is fundamentally important to be addressed, thereby effectively enhancing the participation. In this paper, we revisit this issue in the context of socially-aware crowdsensing which integrates crowdsensing into social networks. For example, in crowdsensing-based healthcare services, the accuracy of diet recommendation for a certain user can be promoted by exploiting the nutritional information contributed and shared by the socially-connected friends of him/her taking similar types of food. To be more general and practical, we study the incentive schemes in presence of multiple crowdsensing service providers and multiple users. Understanding the behaviors of users and service providers in socially-aware crowdsensing is of paramount importance for incentive schemes. Considering this, we propose a multi-leader and multi-follower Stackelberg game approach to model the strategic interactions among service providers and users, where the social influence of users and the strategic interconnections of service providers are jointly and formally integrated into the game modeling. Through backward induction methods, we theoretically validate the existence and uniqueness of the Stackelberg equilibrium. Simulations are conducted to evaluate game equilibrium properties, and the results are presented to assess and demonstrate the performance effectiveness of the proposed game model.

In this paper, we consider the case in which a swarm of robots collaborates in a mission, where a few of the robots behave maliciously. These malicious Byzantine robots may be temporally or constantly controlled by an adversary. The scope is synchronized full information robot operations, where a robot that does not follow the program/policy of the swarm is immediately identified and can be remembered as Byzantine. As robots may be suspected of being Byzantine due to benign temporal malfunctions, it is imperative to Forgive & Forget (F&F), otherwise, a robot cannot assume collaborative actions with any other robot in the swarm. Still, remembering for a while may facilitate a policy of surrounding, isolating and freezing the movement of the misbehaving robots, by several robots, allowing the rest to perform the swarm task with no intervention. We demonstrate the need to periodically F&F to realize swarm several tasks including patrolling/cleaning in the presence of possible Byzantine robots. The policy for achieving the task consists of blocking the movement of the Byzantine robot(s) by some of the robots, while the rest patrol/clean the plane. © Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2019.

Heterostructures based on ultrawide-bandgap (UWBG) semiconductors (bandgap >4.0 eV), such as boron nitride (BN) and diamond, hold significant importance for the development of high-power electronics in the next generation. However, achieving in-situ hetero-epitaxy of BN/diamond or vice versa remains exceptionally challenging due to the complex growth kinetics involved. In this study, we have grown BN thin film on (100) single crystal diamonds using pulsed laser deposition and investigated its structural, magnetic, optical, and thermal properties. The structural analyses confirmed the growth of BN films, which exhibited diamagnetic behavior at room temperature. Notably, the film demonstrated anisotropic refractive index characteristics within the visible-to-near-infrared wavelength range. The room temperature cross-plane thermal conductivity of BN is 1.53 (± 0.77) W/mK, while the thermal conductance of the BN/diamond interface is 20 (± 2) MW/m2K. These findings have significant implications for a range of device applications based on UWBG BN/diamond heterostructures. © 2023, CC BY.

In this study, a theoretical analysis of the acoustic characteristics of a pin holder structure was conducted. Sound absorption coefficient, entering its clearance through the geometrical dimension of the clearance or the physical property of gas, was calculated. The analysis model approximates the aperture of a pin holder structure as the clearance between two parallel surfaces. Thus, the propagation constant and characteristic impedance were obtained and treated as a one-dimensional transfer matrix. Subsequently, the sound absorption coefficient was calculated using the transfer matrix method and was compared with the experimental results. In the experiment, a two-microphone impedance tube was used to measure the sound absorption coefficient of the test samples. We attempted to make a simple yet accurate estimation using these procedures. Detecting manipulated images and videos is an important aspect of digital media forensics. Due to severe discriminative information loss caused by resolution degradation, the performance of most existing methods is significantly reduced on low resolution manipulated images. To address this issue, we propose an Artifacts-Focus Super-Resolution (AFSR) module and a Two-stream Feature Extractor (TFE). The AFSR recovers facial cues and manipulation artifact details using an autoencoder learned with an artifacts focus training loss. The TFE adopts a two-stream feature extractor with key points-based fusion pooling to learn discriminative facial representations. These two complementary modules are jointly trained to recover and capture distinctive manipulation artifacts in low resolution images. Extensive experiments on two benchmarks including FaceForensics++ and DeepfakeTIMIT, evidence the favorable performance of our method against other state-of-the-art methods.

This paper introduces a two-dimensional representation for trust values that uses two metrics: "trust" and "distrust." With this representation, we can deal with such contradictory arguments as "The message is basically trustworthy but simultaneously not trustworthy." Such situations can be caused when a message is consistent with other messages, but the message is sent from an unknown sender. We also explore how to analyze the transitions of two-dimensional trust values with a theory of distributed algorithms and compare our trust representation with Jøsang’s subjective logic. © IFIP International Federation for Information Processing 2019.

We present photometric, spectroscopic and polarimetric observations of the intermediate-luminosity Type IIP supernova (SN) 2021gmj from 1 to 386 days after the explosion. The peak absolute V-band magnitude of SN 2021gmj is −15.5 mag, which is fainter than that of normal Type IIP SNe. The spectral evolution of SN 2021gmj resembles that of other sub-luminous supernovae: the optical spectra show narrow P-Cygni profiles, indicating a low expansion velocity. We estimate the progenitor mass to be about 12 M☉ from the nebular spectrum and the 56Ni mass to be about 0.02 M☉ from the bolometric light curve. We also derive the explosion energy to be about 3×1050 erg by comparing numerical light curve models with the observed light curves. Polarization in the plateau phase is not very large, suggesting nearly spherical outer envelope. The early photometric observations capture the rapid rise of the light curve, which is likely due to the interaction with a circumstellar material (CSM). The broad emission feature formed by highly-ionized lines on top of a blue continuum in the earliest spectrum gives further indication of the CSM at the vicinity of the progenitor. Our work suggests that a relatively low-mass progenitor of an intermediate-luminosity Type IIP SN can also experience an enhanced mass loss just before the explosion, as suggested for normal Type IIP SNe. © 2024, CC BY.

Integrating machine learning techniques in healthcare becomes very common nowadays, and it contributes positively to improving clinical care and health decisions planning. Anemia and malaria are two life-threating diseases in Africa which affect the red blood cells and reduce hemoglobin production. This paper focuses on analyzing child health data in Senegal using four machine learning algorithms in Python: KNN, Random Forests, SVM and Naïve Bayes. Our task aims to investigate large scale data from The Demographic and Health Survey (DHS) and to find out hidden information for anemia and malaria. We present two classification models for the two blood disorders using biological variables and social determinants. The findings of this research will contribute to improving child healthcare in Senegal by eradicating anemia and malaria, and decreasing child mortality rate. © 2021, CC BY.
