Boron nitride (BN) is an exceptional material and among its polymorphs, two-dimensional (2D) hexagonal and three-dimensional (3D) cubic BN (h-BN and c-BN) phases are most common. The phase stability regimes of these BN phases are still under debate and phase transformations of h-BN/c-BN remain a topic of interest. Here, we investigate the phase stability of 2D/3D h-BN/c-BN nanocomposites and show that the co-existence of two phases can lead to strong non-linear optical properties and low thermal conductivity at room temperature. Furthermore, spark-plasma sintering of the nanocomposite shows complete phase transformation to 2D h-BN with improved crystalline quality, where 3D c-BN grain sizes governs the nucleation and growth kinetics. Our demonstration might be insightful in phase engineering of BN polymorphs based nanocomposites with desirable properties for optoelectronics and thermal energy management applications. © 2023, CC BY.

We show in ZnTe that the 2LO to 1LO resonant Raman intensity ratio, a measure of electron-phonon coupling (EPC), exhibits a much larger intrinsic value than that previously reported and minimal change from bulk to 30 nm nanowires. However, the ratio can be tuned extrinsically over one order in magnitude controllably either during or after growth, and thus, allows for the programing of EPC or quantum information in nanoscale devices. This work helps to understand a matter of controversy in the literature for more than three decades, regarding the EPC size dependence in nanostructures, and provides unambiguous experimental results for validating EPC theories with reduced dimensionality.

In this current digital era, the video game is favorite especially among young people. Besides widely known as a form of entertainment, some messages or lessons can be learned from a video game that may affect the players. Conscious or unconscious, games have influenced many sectors of life, and it has been recognized as a serious game and no exception to religion. Human as a living creature, like or dislike or even as an atheist should believe with something out there, and religion is as a medium which connects human with something out there. The game as a representation of entertaining, intelligent application will represent joy and happiness in human life's activities, and inevitably games will influence human religion. In the end, religion game will help the human to increase their faith in those their belief based on their religion. Similar to Information technology which is implemented in business to increase revenue, the game as an entertaining intelligent application will increase human's faith. One kind of video game that provides it is religion video games which are the result of the incorporation between religion and video games. In this paper, we do a literature review about religion video games. We try to summarize how religious elements can be incorporated into a video game which can be seen from the parts, components, and approaches of the religion video game itself. We also try to summarize the positive side and controversies in religion video games. © 2019 IEEE.

Cholera is a highly contagious and lethal waterborne disease induced by an infection with Vibrio cholerae (V. cholerae) secreting cholera toxin (CTx). Cholera toxin subunit B (CTxB) from the CTx specifically binds with monosialo-tetra-hexosyl-ganglioside (GM1) found on the exterior cell membrane of an enterocyte. Owing to the pathological process of CTx, a biomimetic electrochemical biosensor (CCB) was developed by applying GM1-expressing Caco-2 cell membrane (CCM) on the electrode surface of the biosensor for CTx detection. Briefly, the electrode surface was functionalized with CCM using the vesicle fusion method. The specific binding between GM1 and CTxB on the electrode surface was verified using confocal laser scanning microscopy and atomic force microscopy. The CTxB detection performances of the CCB, including sensitivity, selectivity, and long-term stability, were determined using electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). Based on the results, the CCB had an excellent limit of detection of ~11.46 nM and a detection range spanning 100 ng/mL - 1 mg/mL. Further, the CCB had high selectivity for the CTxB compared to different interfering molecules, which are abundant constituents of intestinal fluid and fecal matter in the human body. The long-term stability of the CCBs was also verified for 3 weeks using EIS. Overall, the CCB was found to have an excellent potential for application to point-of-care and cost-effective testing for CTxB detection in developing countries. © 2022, The Authors. In this work, we propose a spatially adaptive HEVC intra mode pre-selection for equirectangular (ERP) 360 video coding. The proposed technique exploits the spatial characteristics of 360 video in the ERP projection to reduce the complexity of intra prediction mode selection. The number of intra modes evaluated in Rate-Distortion Optimization is reduced based on a score technique that is adaptive to the frame region being encoded. Results show that the proposed technique achieves a complexity reduction of 16.5% with low coding efficiency penalties.

Online Learning provides flexibility in the teaching model. Flipped learning is a learning model that combines Online Learning and Classical Learning or what is called blended learning. In flipped learning, the role of Information Communication technology (ICT) plays an important role in the success of student engagement. The application of technology and the framework used are some success factors in flipped learning. In this study reviewing the use of ICT articles and models / frameworks in flipped learning, there are 163 articles which are further synthesized based on content and Research Questions into 41 papers. From the results of the review, there are 3 factors that are considered in flipped learning, namely cognitive aspects, ICT utilization and models / frameworks.

Advances in biomedicine are largely fueled by exploring uncharted territories of human biology. Machine learning can both enable and accelerate discovery, but faces a fundamental hurdle when applied to unseen data with distributions that differ from previously observed ones—a common dilemma in scientific inquiry. We have developed a new deep learning framework, called Portal Learning, to explore dark chemical and biological space. Three key, novel components of our approach include: (i) end-to-end, step-wise transfer learning, in recognition of biology’s sequence-structure-function paradigm, (ii) out-of-cluster meta-learning, and (iii) stress model selection. Portal Learning provides a practical solution to the out-of-distribution (OOD) problem in statistical machine learning. Here, we have implemented Portal Learning to predict chemical-protein interactions on a genome-wide scale. Systematic studies demonstrate that Portal Learning can effectively assign ligands to unexplored gene families (unknown functions), versus existing state-of-the-art methods. Compared with AlphaFold2-based protein-ligand docking, Portal Learning significantly improved the performance by 79% in PR-AUC and 27% in ROC-AUC, respectively. The superior performance of Portal Learning allowed us to target previously "undruggable" proteins and design novel polypharmacological agents for disrupting interactions between SARS-CoV-2 and human proteins. Powder bed fusion of metals with laser beam (PBF-LB/M) using Ti-6Al-4V (Ti64) has enabled delicate fabrication of biocompatible medical implants. This research focuses on how the spatial uniformity of laser irradiation affects material under continuous wave (CW) and pulse width modulated (PWM) laser conditions, using a self-developed PBF-LB/M system. The volumetric energy density (VED) was used as a reference parameter in order to accurately compare the effects of CW and PWM lasers, but limitations of VED, which does not include spatial and kinetic factors, which are reinforced in the PWM laser process, were also considered. Results revealed that the uniform distribution of energy irradiation across the entire region brought similar porosities and Vickers hardness tendencies for CW and PWM laser processes. In contrast, the spatially nonuniform energy transfer resulted in a significantly higher porosity in the specimen fabricated using the PWM laser than that produced using the CW laser at the same VED, reducing compressive yield strength. The electron backscattered diffraction analysis showed no significant differences in the average grain size, phase distribution, and misorientation angle of the samples produced using CW and PWM lasers under the same VED. However, sharper grains with an aspect ratio of less than 0.3 were 7 % higher in specimens produced using the PWM laser. This study highlights the possibility of controlling the microstructure and mechanical properties in a wider range when using the PWM laser with spatially nonuniform irradiation. © 2025 Elsevier Ltd

A novel lightweight three-dimensional （3D） composite anode for a fast-charging] discharging Li-ion battery （LIB） was fabricated entirely using one-dimensional （1D） nanomaterials, i.e., Cu nanowires （CuNWs） and multi-walled C nanotubes （MWCNTs）. Because of the excellent electrical conductivity, high-aspect ratio structures, and large surface areas of these nanomaterials, the CuNW-MWCNT composite （CNMC） with 3D structure provides significant advantages regarding the transport pathways for both electrons and ions. As an advanced binder-free anode, a CuNW-MWCNT composite film with a controllable thickness （~ 600 prn） exhibited a considerably low sheet resistance, and internal cell resistance. Furthermore, the random CuNW network with 3D structure acting as a rigid framework not only prevented MWCNT shrinkage and expansion due to aggregation and swelling but also minimized the effect of the volume change during the charge/discharge process. Both a half cell and a full cell of LIBs with the CNMC anode exhibited high specific capacities and Coulombic efficiendes, even at a high current. More importantly, we for the first time overcame the limitation of MWCNTs as anode materials for fast-charging]discharging LIBs （both half cells and full cells） by employing CuNWs, and the resulting anode can be applied to flexible LIBs. This innovative anode structure can lead to the development of ultrafast chargeable LIBs for electric vehides.
