Analysis of the association between image resolution and landscape metrics using multi-sensor LULC maps

This study aims to investigate the changes in landscape metrics with varying spatial resolution from Sentinel-2 (10 m), SPOT 7 (1.5 m), Pleaides (0.5 m), and Worldview-4 (0.3 m) images. We implemented Geographic Object-Based Image Analysis (GEOBIA) techniques to all images to identify 21 land use and land cover (LULC) classes, which were then used to calculate several landscape metrics. We performed the Welch hypothesis testing on the class-level landscape metrics and applied Standardized Principal Component Analysis (PCA) with the correlation matrix to reveal the multivariate pattern of landscape metrics. Our results showed that 10 m and even the 1.5 m spatial resolutions cannot guarantee the identification of all LULC classes, and class areas change with varying spatial resolution (sometimes with 200% differences). Sentinel-2 images have some limitations, specifically from the landscape ecological planning perspective; on the other hand, Pleaides and Worldview-4 seem good alternatives to understand habitats’ viability and landscape isolation/connectivity.

Coronary artery disease (CAD) is a complex inflammatory disease involving genetic influences across cell types. Genome-wide association studies have identified over 200 loci associated with CAD, where the majority of risk variants reside in noncoding DNA sequences impacting cis-regulatory elements. Here, we applied single-nucleus assay for transposase-accessible chromatin with sequencing to profile 28,316 nuclei across coronary artery segments from 41 patients with varying stages of CAD, which revealed 14 distinct cellular clusters. We mapped ~320,000 accessible sites across all cells, identified cell-type-specific elements and transcription factors, and prioritized functional CAD risk variants. We identified elements in smooth muscle cell transition states (for example, fibromyocytes) and functional variants predicted to alter smooth muscle cell- and macrophage-specific regulation of MRAS (3q22) and LIPA (10q23), respectively. We further nominated key driver transcription factors such as PRDM16 and TBX2. Together, this single-nucleus atlas provides a critical step towards interpreting regulatory mechanisms across the continuum of CAD risk.

Industrial development promotes the production of various electronics for contributing to our life. On the other hand, various electronics occur the compatibility trouble about the communication standard. Especially, the compatibility of physical connection standards such as USB or Ethernet is required without the converter of the connector. One way to solve the compatibility of physical connection is the universal connector that enables optimal communication according to the connection partner. The universal connector can be realized by single-wire handshake of pin assignment which automatically negotiates the voltage signal or the role of the pin. After the connection between the pin, all connected pin conducts the single-wire handshake for determining the pin assignment. The single-wire pin assignment handshake consists of the physical half-duplex communication that conducts transmission and reception on one connection line. The physical half-duplex communication requires the single-wire handshake of the communication speed because the multi-pin cannot use for the communication. In addition, the communication speed cannot determine in advance because the connection partner is assumed various for the compatibility. In this paper, we propose the single-wire handshake which automatically adjusts the communication speeds for the universal connector. Moreover, the feasibility of our method is evaluated by the analysis result of the voltage signal between electronics. © 2019 IEEE.

Background: The association of breaks in sedentary time with outcomes of physical function can vary according to the time of day. We examined the association of the diurnal pattern of breaks in sedentary time with physical function outcomes in older adults. Methods: A cross-sectional analysis was conducted among 115 older adults (≥60 years). The overall and time-specific breaks (morning: 06:00–12:00;afternoon: 12:00–18:00;evening: 18:00–24:00) in sedentary time were assessed using a triaxial accelerometer (Actigraph GT3X+). A break in sedentary time was defined as at least 1 min where the accelerometer registered ≥100 cpm following a sedentary period. Five physical function outcomes were assessed: handgrip strength (dynamometer), balance ability (single leg stance), gait speed (11-m walking), basic functional mobility (time up and go), and lower-limb strength (five times sit-to-stand). Generalized linear models were used to examine the associations of the overall and time-specific breaks in sedentary time with the physical function outcomes. Results: Participants showed an average of 69.4 breaks in sedentary time during the day. Less frequent breaks in the evening (19.3) were found than that in the morning (24.3) and the afternoon (25.3) (p < 0.05). Breaks in sedentary time during the day were associated with less time on gait speed in older adults (exp (β) = 0.92, 95% confidence interval [CI] 0.86–0.98;p < 0.01). Time-specific analysis showed that breaks in sedentary time were associated with less time on gait speed (exp (β) = 0.94, 95% CI 0.91–0.97;p < 0.01), basic functional mobility (exp (β) = 0.93, 95% CI 0.89–0.97;p < 0.01), and lower-limb strength (exp (β) = 0.92, 95% CI 0.87–0.97;p < 0.01) in the evening only. Conclusion: A break in sedentary time, particularly during the evening, was associated with better lower extremity strength in older adults. Convolutional neural networks applied to medical image segmentation with low-compute power computers are investigated. A convolutional neural network architecture is implemented by TensorFlow for a synthetic image and left ventricular MRI image segmentation. Finding parameters of a trained model is an optimization problem. A flowchart is proposed to solve the compute resource problem for the training procedure. The main point is to train a model by updating the checkpoint step by step. With the limitation of the low compute power, experiments can also have good enough results. The experiment results in image segmentation are good enough. The accuracy of both of them is above 95%. © 2019, Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

KEHATI AQUA Park is one of the green areas managed by PT. Tirta Investama Klaten (Klaten Factory). This area is located in Wangen and Ponggok Villages, Polanharjo District, Klaten Regency, Central Java, and is an integral part of the company’s seriousness in carbon reduction movement. When maintenance of the area is important for the sustainability of the park, there is however no data on the trees inventory in the area. Therefore, this study aims to invent the trees at KEHATI AQUA Park and evaluate the potential of the area to become a carbon sink using *** application. This study was conducted at the KEHATI AQUA Park. The census method was performed to collect tree data, and the result was recorded in *** application. The carbon stock calculation was estimated using the application according to the tree data submitted in the application. The study included a total of 1048 plantation spots in 51 tree species. From those numbers, about 738 trees existed, and the remaining spots were blank spaces. Based on the condition of the trees, those were 660 good trees, 17 dry trees, and 61 under pest infection. The carbon stock estimation at KEHATI AQUA Park Klaten in the next five years (2026) is around 40 tons of carbon. Therefore, it can be concluded that the park is valuable as an area to preserve biodiversity and as a carbon sink.

In general, performing a nonlinearity time series analysis in the modeling of data can reach a robust and increase the quality of the results. Wavelet methods have successfully been applied in a great variety of applications for modeling also forecasting. Wavelet Transform divided into two categories. There is continuous wavelet (CWT) and a discrete wavelet transform (DWT). Cycle spinning unlike the discrete wavelet transform (DWT), is highly redundant, non-orthogonal, also defined naturally for all sample sizes. There is a Group Method of Data Handling (GMDH) algorithm, which is a multivariate analysis method can be used in modeling and identifying uncertainty on linear also nonlinearity systems. In this paper, we aim to explain the combination of A-Trous wavelet transforms applied on cycle spinning and group method of data handling (GMDH) in data of short-term electric load holy month of Ramadhan from 2014 to 2015. © 2019, International Association of Engineers.

Learning deep multi-level similarity for thermal infrared object tracking

Existing deep Thermal InfraRed (TIR) trackers only use semantic features to describe the TIR object, which lack the sufficient discriminative capacity for handling distractors. This becomes worse when the feature extraction network is only trained on RGB images. To address this issue, we propose a multi-level similarity model under a Siamese framework for robust TIR object tracking. Specifically, we compute different pattern similarities on two convolutional layers using the proposed multi-level similarity network. One of them focuses on the global semantic similarity and the other computes the local structural similarity of the TIR object. These two similarities complement each other and hence enhance the discriminative capacity of the network for handling distractors. In addition, we design a simple while effective relative entropy based ensemble subnetwork to integrate the semantic and structural similarities. This subnetwork can adaptive learn the weights of the semantic and structural similarities at the training stage. To further enhance the discriminative capacity of the tracker, we construct the first large scale TIR video sequence dataset for training the proposed model. The proposed TIR dataset not only benefits the training for TIR tracking but also can be applied to numerous TIR vision tasks. Extensive experimental results on the VOT-TIR2015 and VOT-TIR2017 benchmarks demonstrate that the proposed algorithm performs favorably against the state-of-the-art methods. In Central Vietnam, the aggregate typically originates from highly acidic rocks containing a significant amount of silicon dioxide (SiO2), leading to poor adhesion quality with virgin asphalt binder. Hence, the asphalt mixture production usually needs to utilize adhesion promoters. Based on the chemical compositions of the sample aggregate (up to 72.3% SiO2), research has been conducted to introduce an adhesive agent called rubber modified compound (RMC-160), which is composed of styrene-butadiene-styrene (SBS) with petroleum hydrocarbon resin, treated clay and mineral oil. This article presents the research findings regarding the adhesion effectiveness of RMC-160-modified asphalt binder to high acid-based aggregate through laboratory and field tests, along with the mixture performance under both short-term oven aging (STOA) and long-term oven aging (LTOA). The test results exhibited remarkable effects, whereby the asphalt binder modified with RMC-160 additive significantly increased the adhesion level from Grade 2 to Grade 4, and the asphalt mixtures containing RMC-160 had lower rutting and higher cracking tolerance (CTIndex) under both the STOA and LTOA conditions. © 2025 American Society of Civil Engineers.
