BACKGROUND:Infection is a recognized risk factor for mortality among hemodialysis (HD) population, including infection caused by Enterobacteriaceae. We aimed to investigate Enterobacteriaceae in gut microbiota among HD patients and to analyze associations between microbiota and clinical parameters. METHODS:This prospective study of microbiota analysis in HD patients was conducted in April-May 2019. A control group without recent antibiotic use or hospitalization was used for comparison. Stool samples underwent 16S rRNA sequencing, using Greengenes 16S rRNA database for microbiota analysis. RESULTS:Among 96 hemodialysis (HD) patients, mean age was 61.9 ± 0.8 years and mean duration of HD was 6.5 ± 0.7 years. No significant differences were found in alpha diversity between HD and control groups (HD group 949.5, controls 898; p = 0.16) although significant between-group differences were found in beta diversity (p < 0.001). At phylum level, HD group had a higher abundance of Firmicutes and Proteobacteria, but lower abundance of Bacteriodetes. At genus level, Escherichia-Shigella complex increased among HD patients who had hospitalization with 1 year (median 0.024 vs 0.004, p = 0.054) and Klebsiella was associated with emergency room visit within 1 year among HD patients (p = 0.002). CONCLUSIONS:Alpha diversity in HD patients is not lower than that in healthy controls but significant between-group differences are found in microbiota composition according to beta diversity, due to decreased Bacteriodetes and increased Firmicutes and Proteobacteria. Deeper microbiota analyses for Enterobacteriaceae are necessary. Whether change in dietary components can help to decrease mortality among dialysis population warrants further research.

Current trends point to a not-too-distant future with qualitatively advanced interactions between humans and social robots. It is critical to consider the possibility of forming meaningful social relationships with robots when defining the future of human-robot interactions, as well as studying how these interactions will evolve to the point where humans are unable to distinguish between humans and robots in urban transportation. In this study, the advantages of using social robots in urban transportation are prioritized by using a multi-criteria decision-making tool, which consists of two consecutive stages, namely: i) a novel fuzzy sine trigonometry based on the logarithmic method of additive weights (fuzzy ST-LMAW) that is proposed to calculate the criteria weights;ii) a nonlinear fuzzy Aczel-Alsina function based the weighted aggregate sum product assessment (fuzzy ALWAS-WASPAS) that is developed to select and rank the alternatives. The proposed model enables flexible nonlinear processing of complex and uncertain information encountered in real applications. A case study is developed to rank three alternatives with twelve sub-criteria grouped into four aspects using the proposed method. The results show that the most advantageous alternative is to replace people with social robots as safety drivers in level four autonomous vehicles due to their possible impact on transportation. © 2023 The Authors

Mobile Ad hoc Network (MANET) is an emerging technology that allows users to transmit data without any physical infrastructure. Among those MANET protocols, Temporally Ordered Routing Algorithm (TORA) is an on-demand MANET routing protocol that attempts to find routes according to the directed acyclic graph (DAG). However, the TORA protocol requires strict synchronization. The routing overhead of TORA will increase linearly with the packet transmission rate. Motivated by Apple Wireless Direct Link (AWDL), we propose an ad hoc link-layer protocol called TORA-based Wireless Protocol (TWP) in this article. TWP can be deployed on embedded devices with Linux-kernel systems. Besides, it has unique frame structures and mechanisms. Also, it can implement synchronization and a TORA-like routing function at the link layer. We analyze the performance of TWP via experiments on Raspberry Pis. The results show that TWP can perform routing and data transmission successfully. It performs well in synchronization and can effectively reduce the routing overhead during the process of network routing.

We implement an efficient artificial neural network (ANN), for the analysis and rapid inverse design of dielectric and planar hyperbolic metamaterial based waveguides operating in the infrared wavelength (λ) telecommunication spectrum (1200nm to 1700nm), where long propagation length and high confinement of the fields are desirables. We consider waveguides made of alternate metal-dielectric layers anisotropic claddings, surrounding a homogeneous core. The main device propagation properties to be computed by the proposed ANN are the length propagation (L) and the penetration depth (dp) associated to every design (outputs of the ANN). They are function of the λ excitation, metal (nm), dielectric (nd) refractive indexes of the layers and core refractive index (nc) as physical parameters. Until recently, sorafenib has been the only treatment approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for patients with advanced hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Some patients, however, exhibit resistance to this treatment and subsequently experience cancer progression, recurrence, or death. Therefore, identifying a new alternative treatment for patients with little or no response to sorafenib treatment is vital. In this study, we explored the therapeutic potential and underlying molecular mechanism of antrocinol ((3aS,4R,6aS,10aR)-4-(hydroxymethyl)-7,7-dimethyldecahydro-1H-naphtho[1,8a-c]furan-1-one) in patients with HCC. The results indicated that antrocinol was more therapeutically effective than antrocin, Stivarga, and sorafenib against HCC cell lines. Antrocinol also substantially suppressed the expression of KRAS-GTP, p-MEK1/2, p-ERK1/2, and p-AKT in the Huh7 cell line. Additionally, antrocinol-induced apoptosis in the Huh7 cell line, inhibited the formation of tumorspheres, and suppressed the expression of cancer stem cell markers CD133, KLF4, CD44, OCT4, SOX2, and c-Myc. Animal studies revealed that antrocinol alone considerably suppressed tumor growth in nonobese diabetic/severe combined immunodeficient mice inoculated with Huh7 tumorspheres. It also synergistically enhanced the anticancer effect of sorafenib, resulting in enhanced suppression of tumor growth (p < 0.001) and tumorsphere formation (p < 0.001). In tumor samples resected from mice treated with antrocinol alone or in combination with sorafenib, immunohistochemical analysis revealed an increase in BAX expression and a decrease in ERK and AKT protein expression. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report of the anti-HCC activity of antrocinol. With its higher therapeutic efficacy than that of sorafenib, antrocinol is a candidate drug for patients with HCC who demonstrate little or no response to sorafenib treatment. © 2022 Elsevier B.V.

The photovoltaic (PV) system energy generation is closely related to climate conditions, installation site, and system design. In this paper, a simple energy generation model is proposed and established by means of module temperature and solar irradiation, module temperature coefficient, module rated power, number of modules, and three correction coefficients including temperature derating coefficient, inverter conversion loss coefficient, and other loss coefficients. The experiment results show that the estimation model proposed in this paper has high accuracy using the Mean Absolute Percentage Error (MAPE) model as the evaluation index, the estimation model MAPE is 6.75%, while the PV SYST software simulation has MAPE of 11.90%. According to international MAPE evaluation standards, the method proposed in this paper has higher accuracy level than PV SYST software. This model can be used for the estimation of energy generation when installing solar PV systems, and can be used for the reasonable assessment of PV system long-term power generation, to predict system power generation anomalies, and reduce system abnormalities caused by downtime losses, and increase investment efficiency. © 2019 IEEE.

Saint-Venant Model Analysis of Trapezoidal Open Channel Water Flow using Finite Difference Method

This study aims to compare the flow characteristics in rectangular and trapezoidal open channel by investigating the effects of Manning coefficient, channel bottom slope, channel width, and channel side slope which represented by modified Saint-Venant equation according to the channel cross section, which are rectangular and trapezoidal, and the slope of channel friction using the Manning coefficient. The equation is solved numerically by using finite difference methods with Forward Time Backward Space approach. The model is simulated by using python-based desktop application to show the flow characteristics. Computational results are displayed in the form of summaries, tables, two-dimensional graphics, and three-dimensional graphics. Validation is done by comparing computational results data with data from the other studies that have been done before and concluded that the simulation results have been valid and indicate compliance with the prior studies. The simulation results show that trapezoidal channel is better at minimizing the risk of flooding than rectangular channel in consideration of smaller discharge, smaller velocity, and lower water level.

A facile and efficient post-synthetic method has been systematically employed to prepare a hybrid silicoaluminophosphate by immobilizing a mixed ligand copper (׀׀) complex comprising 2,9-dimethyl-1,10-phenanthroline and copper nitrate on base-functionalized material. The effective activity of this catalyst in ring opening reaction of epoxide was achieved when this complex was anchored on amine functionalized SAPO materials. Structure, phase integrity, thermal stability and the existence of functional groups are identified by using different analytical techniques like powder XRD, N2 adsorption-desorption, FT-IR, nuclear magnetic resolution, etc. 90% and 88% conversion were achieved using copper complex immobilized SAPO-34, and SAPO-5 materials, respectively which demonstrate the effectiveness of the materials for this reaction. Machine learnings are employed to predict product conversion and selectivity for scaling up the reaction for further industrial applications. Linear regression (LR), support vector machine (SVM), and k-nearest neighbors (kNN), have been utilized in this study, whereas SVM and kNN both exhibited good performance in predicting catalyst conversion and selectivity, by analysing mean squared error (MSE), mean absolute percentage error (MAPE), and R score. This study showcases the innovative synthesis and performance of the hybrid silicoaluminophosphate catalyst, illustrating the accurate predictive machine learning algorithms to find quality of catalyst for specific reactions.

Electrostatic discharges (ESD) can release large amounts of energy to products and humans, causing product failure and pain, respectively. In this research, we elucidate the electrostatic charge generation, and discharge phenomena in real polyvinyl chloride (PVC) based electrical tape factory, which is primarily operated by the roll to roll manufacturing process. We perform the electrostatic potential measurement to identify the critical process of charge generation and to eliminate static charge at the source in order to prevent incidents caused by electrostatic discharge to operators or staff in the winding process. We also perform a numerical simulation-based finite element method (FEM) that provides modeling of an induced electric field, allowing the electrostatic discharge. The maximum potential is ~20 kV measured at 25 mm, indicating that the meter was induced by the electric field approximately ~0.8 MV/m, corresponding to surface charges density is ~ 10 μC/m 2 . Therefore, we introduced the ionization emitter bar in this case because it is feasible to install to the current infrastructure of the tested factory. The ionization emitter appears to reduce the electrostatic charge deposited on the PVC surface ~ 30% of the original charges. Therefore, installing a charge-dissipation technology at a proper location or combining with other methods, the electrostatic charge generation can be minimized even in roll to roll process.
