The Wireless Mesh Networks (WMNs) are becoming an important networking infrastructure because they have many advantages such as low cost and increased high speed wireless Internet connectivity. In our previous work, we implemented a simulation system considering Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO), Hill Climbing (HC) and Distributed GA (DGA), called WMN-PSOHC-DGA. In this paper, we present the performance of WMNs using WMN-PSOHC-DGA simulation system considering Linearly Decreasing Vmax Method (LDVM) and Rational Decrement of Vmax Method (RDVM). Simulation results show that a good performance is achieved for RDVM compared with the case of LDVM. © 2020, Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

Online robust and adaptive learning from data streams

In online learning from non-stationary data streams, it is necessary to learn robustly to outliers and to adapt quickly to changes in the underlying data generating mechanism. In this paper, we refer to the former attribute of online learning algorithms as robustness and to the latter as adaptivity. There is an obvious tradeoff between the two attributes. It is a fundamental issue to quantify and evaluate the tradeoff because it provides important information on the data generating mechanism. However, no previous work has considered the tradeoff quantitatively. We propose a novel algorithm called the stochastic approximation-based robustness-adaptivity algorithm (SRA) to evaluate the tradeoff. The key idea of SRA is to update parameters of distribution or sufficient statistics with the biased stochastic approximation scheme, while dropping data points with large values of the stochastic update. We address the relation between the two parameters: one is the step size of the stochastic approximation, and the other is the threshold parameter of the norm of the stochastic update. The former controls the adaptivity and the latter does the robustness. We give a theoretical analysis for the non-asymptotic convergence of SRA in the presence of outliers, which depends on both the step size and threshold parameter. Because SRA is formulated on the majorization-minimization principle, it is a general algorithm that includes many algorithms, such as the online EM algorithm and stochastic gradient descent. Empirical experiments for both synthetic and real datasets demonstrated that SRA was superior to previous methods. As SRA is based on assumptions that an abrupt change occurs in parameters or sufficient statistics of true distribution and that noisy distribution obeys the uniform distribution, it would be expected for SRA to be theoretically guaranteed in more general settings, such as incremental (gradual) changes and other noisy distributions. Wireless Mesh Networks (WMNs) are becoming an important networking infrastructure because they have many advantages such as low cost and increased high-speed wireless Internet connectivity. In our previous work, we implemented a Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) based simulation system, called WMN-PSO, and a simulation system based on Genetic Algorithm (GA), called WMN-GA, for solving node placement problem in WMNs. Then, we implemented a hybrid simulation system based on PSO and distributed GA (DGA), called WMN-PSODGA. Moreover, we added in the fitness function a new parameter for the load balancing of the mesh routers called NCMCpR (Number of Covered Mesh Clients per Router). In this paper, we consider Constriction Method (CM) and Random Inertia Weight Method (RIWM). The simulation results show that CM has better performance than RIWM. © 2020, Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

Background: The efficacy of extracorporeal shockwave therapy (ESWT) for treating shoulder calcific tendinitis can be influenced by various prognostic factors. This study aimed to identify prognostic factors associated with the failure of ESWT for symptom relief and to evaluate the predictive capability of the eXtreme Gradient Boosting (XGBoost) algorithm of artificial intelligence techniques in this context. Methods: This retrospective study enrolled patients with persistent shoulder pain attributed to calcific tendinitis who underwent ESWT after failed conservative treatment between January 1998 and December 2022. Age, sex, duration of symptoms, calcification classification and size, pre-ESWT visual analog scale (VAS), and pre-ESWT Constant-Murley score (CMS) served as potential input attributes. The difference in VAS and CMS were defined as the output attributes. The XGBoost model was used to predict treatment outcomes based on these factors. The dataset was balanced using the synthetic minority oversampling technique, and the model's performance was assessed using 10-fold cross-validation. Spearman's rank correlation coefficient analysis was adopted to explore the relationships between significant continuous input attributes and post-ESWT VAS and CMS scores. Results: A total of 296 patients with calcific tendinitis were enrolled and completed the 1-year follow-up. The findings revealed that a prolonged symptom duration (>10 months), severe pain (pre-ESWT VAS >5), and higher pre-ESWT CMS (>55) were significant prognostic factors for the failure of ESWT for symptom relief. Using these factors as inputs, the XGBoost model demonstrated high accuracy, precision, recall, and F1 score. By reducing the input attributes to age, calcification size, pre-ESWT CMS, and symptom duration, the model maintained a high prediction rate, suggesting that these factors are sufficient for effective prediction. Personnel and education data very important for organizations, including the military. All data related to military personnel will give effect positions and careers in the military field. The integration of personnel and education data can assist in processing and decision making. An analysis is needed so that the developed system can be useful for the long term. Analysis with IT balanced scorecard and COBIT ® 2019, will be able to help and fill the gaps in the existing system based on the objectives of the military organization itself. It is shown that the domains BAI05 (Managed Organizational Change) and DSS02 (Managed Service Requests and Incidents) are still not being implemented well. The system developed will have the features and capabilities to support the organization in achieving its goals, including in the field of staffing and education. Besides, it provides convenience in making decisions in terms of positions related to personnel careers.

The output of a gravitational wave telescope is a voltage signal which needs to be calibrated to get the strain signal h(t). This signal h(t) can then be used to derive various parameters of the gravitational wave sources. Any uncertainty in the calibration is directly transferred to these parameters. Therefore, absolute calibration of gravitation wave detectors using a precise reference (known) signal is essential. Currently, KAGRA uses Photon Calibrator (PCAL) to generate reference signals for calibration. PCAL injects a power-modulated laser onto the test mass to calibrate the absolute displacement of the mirror using radiation pressure. Hence, the absolute calibration of KAGRA is limited to 3% by the absolute laser power measurement uncertainty due to the deviation in the laser power standards. KAGRA proposed a new method combining PCAL with Gravity Field Calibrator (GCAL) to reduce the calibration uncertainty. GCAL modulates the test mass using a dynamic gravitational field generated by rotating multipole masses. Since the injected force by GCAL depends on the gravitational constant, mass, distance, rotation frequency, and radius, calibration uncertainty in the sub-percent region can be achieved. Calorie restriction (CR) and fasting affect lifespan, disease susceptibility and response to acute injury across multiple animal models, including ischaemic injuries such as myocardial infarction or kidney hypoxia. The cargo and function of circulating extracellular vesicles (EV) respond to changes in host physiology, including exercise, injury, and other interventions. Thus, we hypothesised that EVs induced following CR may reflect some of the beneficial properties of CR itself. In a pilot study, EVs were isolated from mice following 21 days of 30 % CR, and from eight human donors after 72 h water-only fasting. EV size, concentration and morphology were profiled by NTA, western blot and cryoEM, and their function was assessed using multiple assays related to ischaemic diseases. We found that EVs from post-fasting samples better protected cardiac cells from hypoxia/reperfusion (H/R) injury compared to pre-fasting EVs. However, there was no difference when used to treat H/R-injured kidney epithelial cells. Post-fasting derived EVs slowed the rate of fibroblast migration and slightly reduced macrophage inflammatory gene expression compared to pre-fasting derived EVs. Lastly, we compared miRNA cargos of pre- and post-fasting human serum EVs and found significant changes in a small number of miRNAs. We conclude that fasting appears to influence EV cargo and function, with varied effects worthy of further exploration. © 2023 The Authors. The aim of the current overview was to present the existing literature on the recent phenomenon of eSports. Using a multifaceted approach, we focused on its definitions, historical development, and classification, drawing attention to key disputes that exist between scholars. Furthermore, we investigated the debate on whether eSports should be considered a traditional sport or not, with a particular interest in two processes that have contributed to eSports’ development as a culturally-significant addition to the world of sports, as both a game and an occupation: sportification and professionalization. Lastly, we analysed studies on spectatorship and consumption to understand why people watch and play eSports pointing out data about the recent relationship between practice and the possible development of eSport's addiction, gambling, and the related impact on individual health and wellbeing. © 2022

Microalgae have drawn significant interest worldwide, owing to their enormous application potential in the green energy, biopharmaceutical, and nutraceutical industries. Many studies have proved and stated the potential of microalgae in the area of biofuel which is economically effective and environmentally friendly. Besides the commercial value, the potential of microalgae in environmental protection has also been investigated. Microalgae-based process is one of the most effective way to treat heavy metal pollution, compared to conventional methods, it does not release any toxic waste or harmful gases, and the aquatic organism will not receive any harmful effects. The potential dual role of microalge in phytoremedation and energy production has made it widely explored for its capability. The interest of microalgae in various application has motivated a new focus in green technologies. Considering the rapid population growth with the continuous increase on the global demand and the application of biomass in diverse field, significant upgrades have been performed to accommodate green technological advancement. In the past decade, noteworthy advancement has been made on the technology involving the diverse application of microalgae biomass. This review aims to explore on the application of microalgae and the development of green technology in various application for microalgae biomass. There is great prospects for researchers in this field to delve into other potential utilization of microalgae biomass not only for bioremediation process but also to generate revenues from microalgae by incorporating clean and green technology for long-term sustainability and environmental benefits. © 2021

KAGRA is a laser interferometric gravitational wave (GW) telescope in Japan. It joined O4, the fourth international GW observation run, with other telescopes, namely, Laser Interferometer Gravitational Wave Observatory (LIGO) and Virgo. In the previous GW observation runs: O1, O2, and O3, 90 events were reported, and many more events are expected to be observed in O4. With the beginning of GW astronomy, the calibration of observed GW signals is becoming more important than ever before. The main calibration system used in KAGRA, LIGO, and Virgo is a photon calibration system (Pcal), which injects reference signals into a telescope by the radiation pressure of a laser. On the basis of the preparation and operation of KAGRA Pcals in O3, we prepared an upgrading plan for O4. This plan includes three main improvements: improving the Pcal laser beam alignment system, reducing noise, and dereasing uncertainty. Improvement works were conducted between the end of O3 and the start of O4 in accordance with this plan. The following results were obtained: first, precise remote alignment was enabled in the critical Pcal laser path region. Second, a Pcal noise source was identified and noise was significantly improved, resulting in a remarkable 50 dB reduction and sufficient reduction of the Pcal noise below the design sensitivity of KAGRA. Third, studies on the temperature dependence and laser incidence state dependence of the integrating sphere-type power meter were conducted to reduce the uncertainty of the Pcal, which is directly related to the uncertainty of the telescope signal.
