Thermal Hall Effects of Spins and Phonons in Kagome Antiferromagnet Cd-Kapellasite

We investigate the thermal-transport properties of the kagome antiferromagnet Cd-kapellasite (Cd-K). We find that a field-suppression effect on the longitudinal thermal conductivity κxx sets in below approximately 25 K. This field-suppression effect at 15 T becomes as large as 80% at low temperatures, suggesting a large spin contribution κxxsp in κxx. We also find clear thermal Hall signals in the spin liquid phase in all Cd-K samples. The magnitude of the thermal Hall conductivity κxy shows a significant dependence on the sample’s scattering time, as seen in the rise of the peak κxy value in almost linear fashion with the magnitude of κxx. On the other hand, the temperature dependence of κxy is similar in all Cd-K samples; κxy shows a peak at almost the same temperature of the peak of the phonon thermal conductivity κxxph which is estimated by κxx at 15 T. These results indicate the presence of a dominant phonon thermal Hall κxyph at 15 T. In addition to κxyph, we find that the field dependence of κxy at low fields turns out to be nonlinear at low temperatures, concomitantly with the appearance of the field suppression of κxx, indicating the presence of a spin thermal Hall κxysp at low fields. Remarkably, by assembling the κxx dependence of κxysp data of other kagome antiferromagnets, we find that, whereas κxysp stays a constant in the low-κxx region, κxysp starts to increase as κxx does in the high-κxx region. This κxx dependence of κxysp indicates the presence of both intrinsic and extrinsic mechanisms in the spin thermal Hall effect in kagome antiferromagnets. Furthermore, both κxyph and κxysp disappear in the antiferromagnetic ordered phase at low fields, showing that phonons alone do not exhibit the thermal Hall effect. A high field above approximately 7 T induces κxyph, concomitantly with a field-induced increase of κxx and the specific heat, suggesting a coupling of the phonons to the field-induced spin excitations as the origin of κxyph.

Combatting corruption requires not only centralized and institution-based strategy, but must be met with distributive effort supported by abundance of data and technological advancement. This work tackles the issue of decentralized corruption prevention by describing the method of doing heuristic analysis based on multiple data regarding corruption. There are four main data source used for the input of the system in this work, where each data corresponds to a city in a region. All the data are processed into corresponding index, while the indexes will be further used in index interpretation and suggestion mapping process. The output of this system is a decision support system for relevant decision making related to corruption prevention, visualized using Google Map API. This system will be very powerful in the long and tedious war against corruption, when used to its maximum potential. © 2019 IEEE.

In this paper an electret-based electrostatic induction wind harvester is presented. The induction electrostatic field is produced with an electret. It is described how the electret and the harvester prototype have been obtained. With the rapid evolution of manufacturing technology, mechanical equipment products are being replaced more frequently, and competition in the industry is becoming increasingly fierce. The collection and analysis of mechanical equipment technical intelligence is a key need for many enterprises. Using artificial intelligence technology to build an intelligence analysis system for all types of data is the inevitable trend of intelligence analysis. This paper proposes an intelligent processing and analysis framework of mechanical equipment intelligence. Based on the construction of knowledge graph, the knowledge embedding model is used to complete knowledge reasoning, predict development trends for mechanical equipment, and allow for more intelligent decision-making. A case study involving 3D printing shows the functions of the intelligence process and analysis framework.

Providing access control to the IoT devices is an essential task in today's ever-growing IoT network. IoT devices are deployed in smart homes, smart buildings, social infrastructures etc. Illegitimate users or malware should be denied access to these devices to protect the sensitive information collected by these devices and the login privileges of its operating system. This paper proposes INSTRUCT, a mechanism for providing access control by identifying valid communication in a network consisting of IoT devices using clustering techniques. INSTRUCT uses the fact that the IoT devices usually communicate with a fixed set of hosts/servers repetitively. By capturing the network traffic and learning the patterns out of the network traffic, this mechanism allows the automatic generation of access control list that can be deployed at the intermediate network switches. INSTRUCT proposes two different algorithms for TCP and UDP respectively. These algorithms are applied to two different IoT networks for evaluation. A signature-based manual analysis is used to compare with the automatically generated access control list from the algorithms. In our experiments, INSTRUCT achieved an accuracy of 100% as compared to the signature based analysis in identifying valid TCP communication. In the case of UDP, it is close to 95%. © 2018 IEEE.

Significance: The thermal analysis of nanofluid in a vertical cylinder (artery) in a magnetized environment holds significant implications in physiological and thermal regulation networks. This research is significant in biomedical engineering with applications like medical diagnostics and treatment strategies. Motive: This study investigates the thermal behavior of a magnetized blood-based ternary Carreau nanofluid flowing through a vertically bounded artery with quadratic convection. Velocity and heat transfer analysis is conducted within the artery, utilizing thermal radiation and quadratic convection in a magnetized setting. The base fluid consists of blood, augmented with three nanoparticles: CuO, Al₂O₃, and TiO₂. The investigation centers on examining the properties of blood nanofluid, arterial geometry, and thermal dynamics. Methodology: The physical model generates a set of partial differential equations (PDEs) and similarities mechanism is utilized to fetch its non dimensional form in terms of ordinary differential equations (ODEs). Furthermore, numerical outcomes are obtained with Matlab function bvp4c and obtained data set is trained through robust scheme Levenberg-Marquardt neural network (LMNN) procedure to predict the solution. Findings: Velocity of blood is reduced with increased values of wiessenberg number, magnetic parameter and mixed convection parameter and velocity increases for Second-order convection parameter. Temperature profile decreases with curvature parameter, mixed convection parameter and permeability parameter. © 2024

This paper proposes a low-cost methodology for analyzing the dynamics of constriction of a human pupil while subjected to a light stimulus: this phoenomenon is commonly known as Pupillary Light Reflex (PLR) and is widely utilized in medical field to diagnose a variety of diseases. In particular, the analysis of the PLR in this paper is preparatory to the development of a Driver Drowsiness Detection System (DDDS), which reveals the driver's sleepiness state by measuring the pupil's constriction dynamics. The test protocol consists in applying a light stimulus to one eye of the subject and to capture the dynamics of constriction of both eyes through cameras;the proposed methodology extracts from the video sequences the time profile of the pupil diameter, from which dynamic and static features are obtained by fitting a simplified 1st-order model with delay. Finally, conclusions on the intra- and inter-subject variability of such features are drawn and possible DDDS strategies are proposed based on the obtained results.

The role of nonstoquasticity in the field of quantum annealing and adiabatic quantum computing is an actively debated topic. We study a strongly-frustrated quasi-one-dimensional quantum Ising model on a two-leg ladder to elucidate how a first-order phase transition with a topological origin is affected by interactions of the ±XX-type. Such interactions are sometimes known as stoquastic (negative sign) and nonstoquastic (positive sign) “catalysts”. Carrying out a symmetry-preserving real-space renormalization group analysis and extensive density-matrix renormalization group computations, we show that the phase diagrams obtained by these two methods are in qualitative agreement with each other and reveal that the first-order quantum phase transition of a topological nature remains stable against the introduction of both XX-type catalysts. This is the first study of the effects of nonstoquasticity on a first-order phase transition between topologically distinct phases. Our results indicate that nonstoquastic catalysts are generally insufficient for removing topological obstacles in quantum annealing and adiabatic quantum computing.

Polylactic acid (PLA) ranks among the most extensively produced bioplastics, raising waste management concerns globally. This study explored dual pretreatment strategies, specifically photolysis by Ultraviolet-C (UVC) and hydrolysis by subcritical water extraction (SWE), for PLA waste treatment. UVC irradiation reduced the mechanical strength and viscosity average molecular weight (M v ) of PLA, but the effects were more significant in thin PLA films than in thick PLA beverage cups. Thus, the PLA cups were selected for SWE treatment, which reduced their M v from 190,000 to 5300. The pulverized SWE-treated PLA was later used for inducing protease and esterase in PLA-degrading bacterial consortium EAc. The active inoculum was applied as a bioaugmentation agent in a food composter for degrading UVC-treated PLA cups with food waste. PLA weight loss in the bioaugmented food composter (42%) after 56 days was greater than the naturally attenuated composter (1%). The residual PLA in the final bioaugmented compost had a relatively smaller size and lower M v with prominent surface erosion. In addition, the 16S rRNA gene amplicon sequencing revealed that the bioaugmentation promoted bacterial diversity and community interactions. Conclusively, PLA waste can be treated by UVC irradiation followed by composting with food waste using an active EAc inoculum.
