Interdependence between transportation system and power distribution system: a comprehensive review on models and applications

The rapidly increasing penetration of electric vehicles(EVs) in modern metropolises has been witnessed during the past decade, inspired by financial subsidies as well as public awareness of climate change and environment pro-tection. Integrating charging facilities, especially highpower chargers in fast charging stations, into power distribution systems remarkably alters the traditional load flow pattern, and thus imposes great challenges on the operation of distribution network in which controllable resources are rare. On the other hand, provided with appropriate incentives, the energy storage capability of electric vehicle offers a unique opportunity to facilitate the integration of distributed wind and solar power generation into power distribution system. The above trends call for thorough investigation and research on the interdependence between transportation system and power distribution system. This paper conducts a comprehensive survey on this line of research. The basic models of transportation system and power distribution system are introduced,especially the user equilibrium model, which describes the vehicular flow on each road segment and is not familiar to the readers in power system community. The modelling of interdependence across the two systems is *** into account such interdependence, applications ranging from long-term planning to short-term operation are reviewed with emphasis on comparing the description of traffic-power interdependence. Finally, an outlook of prospective directions and key technologies in future research is summarized.

In this paper we introduce and study a new problem named min-max edge q-coloring which is motivated by applications in wireless mesh networks. The input of the problem consists of an undirected graph and an integer q. The goal is to color the edges of the graph with as many colors as possible such that: (a) any vertex is incident to at most q different colors, and (b) the maximum size of a color group (i.e. set of edges identically colored) is minimized. We show the following results: Min-max edge q-coloring is NP-hard, for any q ≥ 2. A polynomial time exact algorithm for min-max edge q-coloring on trees. Exact formulas of the optimal solution for cliques and almost tight bounds for bicliques and hypergraphs. A non-trivial lower bound of the optimal solution with respect to the average degree of the graph. An approximation algorithm for planar graphs. © Journal of Graph Algorithms and Applications.

We present a study on the development and testing of a wireless electronic nose network (WENn) for monitoring real-time gas mixture, NH 3 and H 2 S, main malodors in various environments. The proposed WENn is based on an embedded PC, an electronic olfactory system and wireless sensor network (WSN) technology and neuro-fuzzy network algorithms. The WENn used in this work takes advantage of recent advances in low power wireless communication platforms and uses micro-gas sensors with SnO 2 -CuO and SnO2-Pt sensing films for detecting the presence of target gases. Each node in the network real-timely performs classification and concentration estimation of the binary gas mixtures using the fuzzy ART and ARTMAP neural networks and calculation of the measured humidity and temperature in a located point and then transmits the computed results from the measured data set to a sink node via a Zigbee ready RF transceiver. In addition, a monitoring manager virtual instrument (MMVI) is developed using LabVIEW to monitor efficiently the analyzed gas information from the sensor node. To test the reproducibility and reliability of the WENn, on-line experiments are conducted with the gas monitoring system.

Multimedia broadcast and multicast service (MBMS) specification was introduced in the release 6 of the 3GPP standard to deliver multimedia content to a large group of users in the UMTS network. With the MBMS system generally the same content is transmitted to multiple users in a unidirectional fashion, typically by multiple base stations to improve the coverage over a large geographical area. From the radio network point of view the standard supports the point-to-point (p-t-p) and the point-to-multipoint (p-t-m) transmission modes. In this paper we propose a group based p-t-m MBMS algorithm utilising the scalable video coding techniques to improve overall QoS of multimedia services. The group based MBMS algorithm has been proposed to support moderate to high date rate multicasting services over the HSDPA link. The proposed algorithm has been simulated using an OPNET simulation model. Initial results show that the proposed algorithm could offer higher data and improved QoS for MBMS users.

Most of papers have ignored the effect of gate-drain capacitance of transistor due to its complexity when they analyze a low noise amplifier circuit (LNA). However, as scaling down the CMOS technology, the ratio of gate-drain capacitance (C gd ) to gate-source capacitance (C gs ) increases. This phenomenon affects the input matching, power gain and noise figure of the LNA circuit. In this paper, we propose the circuit analysis with new analytic equations derived from equivalent circuit of LNA which considered the C gd effect. With this approach, the input power matching, overall trans-conductance and noise figure could be accurately calculated more than conventional equation. Moreover, a design approach is introduced to optimize the LNA circuit. Prior to fabrication of full LNA circuit, optimum bias and width could be determined to maximize FoM. This paper shows the guide line to design an LNA circuit at 10 GHz operating frequency using 65 nm technology.

Wireless mesh networks (WMNs) are one of the key features of beyond 3G system because of their flexible and low-cost deployment. IEEE 802.16 mesh mode has recently emerged as an alternative protocol for establishing WMN. Because the WMN is used as wireless backbone network, the design of WMN protocol should target a high network throughput. Then, in IEEE 802.16 mesh standard, the performance improvement is limited by the holdoff algorithm in the bandwidth reservation procedure. In this paper, we propose an adaptive holdoff algorithm for IEEE 802.16 mesh mode with coordinated distributed scheduling. The proposed holdoff algorithm improves network throughput by adaptively adjusting the transmission holdoff exponent according to current node state. In addition, the proposed holdoff algorithm maintains the backward compatibility with the IEEE 802.16 mesh standard and does not require any information from other layers. Simulation results show that the proposed holdoff algorithm performs better than existing holdoff algorithm in terms of total network throughput.

The SiO 2 passivation using the inductively coupled plasma-chemical vapor deposition(ICP-CVD) was proposed for the high voltage AlGaN/GaN Schottky barrier diode(SBD). The ICP-CVD is well known for the high-density remote plasma, so this method reduces the plasma damage on the surface of semiconductor. Experimental results showed that the SiO 2 passivation improved the electrical characteristics of AlGaN/GaN SBDs. The specific on-resistance was decreased from 15.1 mldrldrcm 2 to 13.2 mldrldrcm 2 , and the reverse breakdown voltage increased from 87.5 V to 497.0 V. Schottky barrier height was also increased from 0.64 to 0.92. The figure-of-merit (VB 2 /R ON ) of the SiO 2 passivated device was 18.71 MW/cm 2 . These improvements of the proposed device were attributed to the suppression of electron trapping at the surface states.
