when an electrical Vehicle (EV) encounters an accident or the vehicle is taken to a service station, the DC-link capacitor in the inverter must be discharged to ensure safety of both the passengers and the operator. This paper examines the limitations of traditional discharge techniques and proposes a novel hybrid discharge solution that combines the existing winding-based discharge method with a flyback converter. The proposed technique enhances redundancy, decreases the discharge time and minimize the risk of DC-link voltage overshoot during the regeneration action caused by quadrature axis current injection. The study introduces a low-voltage discharge circuit enabled by a flyback converter using MOSFET in linear mode, presenting two distinct approaches. The paper includes a simulation comparison of winding-based discharge with the proposed Hybrid discharge technique. The proposed solution has a higher discharge rate and reduces the voltage overshoot on the DC-Link capacitor. The proposed hardware is verified using the simulation and experiments conducted on a high voltage supply test rig. © 2024 IEEE.

Measuring Hemoglobin (Hb) levels is required for the assessment of different health conditions, such as anemia, a condition where there are insufficient healthy red blood cells to carry enough oxygen to the body’s tissues. Measuring Hb levels requires the extraction of a blood sample, which is then sent to a laboratory for analysis. This is an invasive procedure that may add challenges to the continuous monitoring of Hb levels. Noninvasive techniques, including imaging and photoplethysmography (PPG) signals combined with machine learning techniques, are being investigated for continuous measurements of Hb. However, the availability of real data to train the algorithms is limited to establishing a generalization and implementation of such techniques in healthcare settings. In this work, we present a computational model based on Monte Carlo simulations that can generate multispectral PPG signals that cover a broad range of Hb levels. These signals are then used to train a Deep Learning (DL) model to estimate hemoglobin levels. Through this approach, valuable insights about the relationships between PPG signals, oxygen saturation, and Hb levels are learned by the DL model. The signals were generated by propagating a source in a volume that contains the skin tissue properties and the target physiological parameters. The source consisted of plane waves using the 660nm and 890 nm wavelengths. A range of 6 g/dL to 18dL Hb values was used to generate 468 PPGs to train a Convolutional Neural Network (CNN). The initial results show high accuracy in detecting low levels of Hb. To the best of our knowledge, the complexity of biological interactions involved in measuring hemoglobin levels has yet to be fully modeled. The presented model offers an alternative approach to studying the effects of changes in Hb levels on the PPGs signal morphology and its interaction with other physiological parameters that are present in the optical path of the measured signals. © 2023 SPIE.

Effective dissemination of information to audience in institutions of higher learning is a critical challenge in today's interconnected world. Conveying timely information to every individual can be arduous due to scale. Smart screens offer a dynamic solution by facilitating internet-enabled transmission of announcements to strategically positioned displays. This method ensures swift delivery of vital information to target audiences. The consequences of information gaps can be dire in urgent scenarios where missed information might be adversely affected. Both conventional and social media platforms have limitations in reaching targeted populations when distributing information. This paper aims to explore the potential of enhancing information dissemination through the fusion of smart screen technology and web applications. This strategy mitigates the risk of unintended recipients viewing urgent messages while ensuring that those intended receive it promptly. It employs a technological stack encompassing ***, ***, MongoDB, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript to provide both a robust back-end and user-friendly front-end interface. Testing, deployment, and debugging processes ensure functionality, usability, and scalability of the application. The web application test results show an overall performance of 98%. It overcame the limitations of traditional communication methods, by offering a promising avenue for future research and development, hinting at the potential for widespread implementation. © 2023 IEEE.

Involving subject matter experts in prompt engineering can guide LLM outputs toward more helpful, accurate, and tailored content that meets the diverse needs of different domains. However, iterating towards effective prompts can be challenging without adequate interface support for systematic experimentation within specific task contexts. In this work, we introduce PromptHive, a collaborative interface for prompt authoring designed to better connect domain knowledge with prompt engineering through features that encourage rapid iteration on prompt variations. We conducted an evaluation study with ten subject matter experts in math and validated our design through two collaborative prompt writing sessions and a learning gain study with 358 learners. Our results elucidate the prompt iteration process and validate the tool's usability, enabling non-AI experts to craft prompts that generate content comparable to human-authored materials while reducing perceived cognitive load by half and shortening the authoring process from several months to just a few hours. © 2025 Copyright held by the owner/author(s). Crowd counting is a computer vision task that focuses on accurately estimating the number of people present in a given scene. In the past few years, convolutional neural network-based deep learning techniques have achieved remarkable success in many computer vision tasks, including crowd counting. In the field of crowd counting, large-scale changes have always been a great challenge. To resolve this problem, previous work used multiple branches to obtain information at different scales and combined it. However, purely combining multi-branch features cannot effectively utilize multi-scale information. In this work, we modify the previous multi-branch architecture, which can reasonably select the appropriate scale information. Furthermore, we test our model on the ShanghaiTech dataset and demonstrate the competitive performance of our method. © 2023 IEEE.

Both the academic and industry begin the early research on the network architectures of the 6th generation (6G) mobile communication system, which integrates the satellite networks for ubiquitous access. However, the 5th generation non-terrestrial network (5G NTN) architecture and the existing integrated network architectures do not consider the specific trimming schemes of network element functions placed on-orbit, which may cause the waste of resources. Therefore, we propose a microservice-based satellite-terrestrial integrated network architecture, where the access network (AN) and the user plane function (UPF) are servized, to achieve deeper integration between the AN and the core network (CN). Based on the new network architecture, a basic principle of network element function trimming is proposed, and two examples of UPF function trimming are given in the typical scenarios with satellite networks. The function trimming results have exhibited that the UPF effectively reduces the number of functions equipped on the satellite by probably 42 % and 63 % in two typical scenarios, respectively, which saves the satellite resources. © 2023 IEEE.

Nowadays, energy efficiency for buildings is considered one of the most valuable solutions to provide services sustainably. Many buildings are designed aiming to consume less energy while performing the required tasks. However, buildings that are designed according to the traditional approaches represent primary consumers of energy and resources. With the increase in renewable energy resources integration, those consumers try to reduce their electricity bills using photovoltaic (PV) systems. Combining both solutions, renewable energy, and energy efficiency, they can lower energy consumption, greenhouse gas emissions, pollution, and cost. In this study, four school buildings in Jordan have been studied to investigate the benefit of energy efficiency solution in reducing the total PV size and electricity cost. The mayfly optimization algorithm is used to find the required PV system size needed to satisfy the school building energy demand. Some parameters and design specifications for installing PV systems and inverters have been introduced. Evaluation of economic and environmental indicators is done by using PVsyst-software to compare theoretical and simulation results. Results reveal significant economic and environmental benefits gained from applying the suggested energy efficiency solution and installing a PV system. © 2023 IEEE.
