The main idea behind this project is to provide a unified platform which will cover a complete process for embedded systems learning. A modular approach is considered for skills practice through supporting individualization in learning. This platform shall facilitate a novel development of universal approach in creative learning environment and knowledge management that encourage use of ICT. New learning model is challenging the education of engineers in embedded systems design through real-time experiments that stimulate curiosity with ultimate goal to support students to understand and construct their personal conceptual knowledge based on experiments. In addition to the technological approach, the use of cognitive theories on how people learn will help students to achieve a stronger and smarter adaptation of the subject. Applied methodology will be evaluated from the scientific point of view in parallel with the implementation in order to feedback results to the R&D.

Recent years have witnessed the emergence of many new mobile apps and user-centered systems that interact with users by offering choices with rewards. These applications have been promising to address challenging societal problems such as congestion in transportation and behavior changes for healthier lifestyles. Considerable research efforts have been devoted to model the user behaviors in these new applications. However, as real-world user data is often prone to data corruptions, the success of these models hinges on a robust learning method. Building on the recently proposed Latent Decision Threshold model, this article shows that, among the existing robust learning frameworks, theL0-norm-based framework can outperform other state-of-the-art methods in terms of prediction accuracy and model estimation. And based on theL0-norm framework, we further develop a user screening algorithm to identify potential bad actors.

A novel linear actuator for a tactile display is proposed, especially for Braille aimed for visually impaired people, and also for a new human haptics interface. The features of actuators for this use may be evaluated by output force, stroke, and compactness. The proposed new actuator has better performance in terms of above features compared with other actuators. The proposed actuator is a small linear actuator with inner stator, outer stators and mover. The direction of the output force can be controlled by changing polarity of the input current. The structure, JMAG simulations, and the experimentally measured data are presented in this paper.

Ceramic sanitary-ware manufacturing is an industrial sector within the ceramic field that globally demands more than 100,000 TJ of primary energy and 21,000 dam3 of water per year. This research aims to quantify the reachable level of improvement within this industrial field by application of thermal engineering through the different thermal processes along the manufacturing line and the way to apply it to recover the water of the process and reduce the total consumption of primary energy. Advanced exergetic analysis has been the selected technique applied to all thermal sub-processes that comprise the overall process. The novelty of this research lays on the application of heat recovery through the different thermal processes to minimize the global consumption of both, energy and water for the specific field of the sanitary-ware manufacturing where no research has been approached in this regard. This research shows that 20% of the inlet exergy in a conventional factory is recoverable and the way to achieve it by an optimized factory which saves 3% of primary energy and 100% of the flushing water for molds.

Contents and implementation of a computer laboratory for undergraduate electromagnetics are described. The laboratory consists of four 3-hour sessions covering vector calculus, Maxwell's equations (integral and differential forms), wave propagation in materials, and wave behavior at planar interfaces. Each session contains theory (in the Help file), animations (where relevant) and a quiz. The program runs on IBM compatible 486-based PCs in a Windows environment and uses the Borland C ++ 4.0 compiler.
