Cloud storage services have been used by most businesses and individual users. However, data loss, service interruptions and cyber attacks often lead to cloud storage services not being provided properly, and these incidents have caused financial losses to users. Second, traditional and single-cloud model disaster recovery services are no longer suitable for the current complex cloud storage systems. Therefore, a scheme to provide disaster recovery for cloud storage services in a multi-cloud storage environment is needed in real production. In this paper, we propose a disaster recovery scheme based on blockchain technology. The proposed scheme outlined in this study aims to address the issue of data availability within the cloud storage landscape. The proposed scheme achieves this goal by dividing data into hot and cold categories, verifying the integrity of copy data via blockchain technology, and utilizing blockchain networks to manage multi-cloud storage systems. Experimental findings demonstrate that the proposed scheme yields superior results in terms of computation and time overheads. © 2023 IEEE.

This paper explores a novel multi-modal alternating learning paradigm pursuing a reconciliation between the exploitation of uni-modal features and the exploration of cross-modal interactions. This is motivated by the fact that current paradigms of multi-modal learning tend to explore multi-modal features simultaneously. The resulting gradient prohibits further exploitation of the features in the weak modality, leading to modality competition, where the dominant modality overpowers the learning process. To address this issue, we study the modality-alternating learning paradigm to achieve reconcilement. Specifically, we propose a new method called ReconBoost to update a fixed modality each time. Herein, the learning objective is dynamically adjusted with a reconcilement regularization against competition with the historical models. By choosing a KL-based reconcilement, we show that the proposed method resembles Friedman's Gradient-Boosting (GB) algorithm, where the updated learner can correct errors made by others and help enhance the overall performance. The major difference with the classic GB is that we only preserve the newest model for each modality to avoid overfitting caused by ensembling strong learners. Furthermore, we propose a memory consolidation scheme and a global rectification scheme to make this strategy more effective. An Enhanced Deep Reinforcement Learning-Based Global Router for VLSI Design

Global routing is a crucial step in the design of Very Large-Scale Integration (VLSI) circuits. However, most of the existing methods are heuristic algorithms, which cannot conjointly optimize the subproblems of global routing, resulting in congestion and overflow. In response to this challenge, an enhanced Deep Reinforcement Learning- (DRL-) based global router has been proposed, which comprises the following effective strategies. First, to avoid the overestimation problem generated by Q-learning, the proposed global router adopts the Double Deep Q-Network (DDQN) model. The DDQN-based global router has better performance in wire length optimization and convergence. Second, to avoid the agent from learning redundant information, an action elimination method is added to the action selection part, which significantly enhances the convergence performance of the training process. Third, to avoid the unfair allocation problem of routing resources in serial training, concurrent training is proposed to enhance the routability. Fourth, to reduce wire length and disperse routing resources, a new reward function is proposed to guide the agent to learn better routing solutions regarding wire length and congestion standard deviation. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed algorithm outperforms others in several important performance metrics, including wire length, convergence performance, routability, and congestion standard deviation. In conclusion, the proposed enhanced DRL-based global router is a promising approach for solving the global routing problem in VLSI design, which can achieve superior performance compared to the heuristic method and DRL-based global router. © 2023 Saijuan Xu et al.

This paper explores test-agnostic long-tail recognition, a challenging long-tail task where the test label distributions are unknown and arbitrarily imbalanced. We argue that the variation in these distributions can be broken down hierarchically into global and local levels. The global ones reflect a broad range of diversity, while the local ones typically arise from milder changes, often focused on a particular neighbor. Traditional methods predominantly use a Mixture-of-Expert (MoE) approach, targeting a few fixed test label distributions that exhibit substantial global variations. However, the local variations are left unconsidered. To address this issue, we propose a new MoE strategy, DirMixE, which assigns experts to different Dirichlet meta-distributions of the label distribution, each targeting a specific aspect of local variations. Additionally, the diversity among these Dirichlet meta-distributions inherently captures global variations. This dual-level approach also leads to a more stable objective function, allowing us to sample different test distributions better to quantify the mean and variance of performance outcomes. Theoretically, we show that our proposed objective benefits from enhanced generalization by virtue of the variance-based regularization. Comprehensive experiments across multiple benchmarks confirm the effectiveness of DirMixE. The code is available at https://***/scongl/DirMixE.

At present, with the development of science and medical level, more and more diseases can be cured. However, the cost of treating some diseases is high, and for many families with limited financial resources, it is difficult to spend so much money on treatment in a short period of time. As a result, more and more people are launching fundraising projects through third-party platforms such as Water Drops and Easy Fundraising, using the money raised to treat diseases. However, these third-party platforms have many problems, such as easy to disclose the private information of people who seeking help, the fundraising process is complex and slow, the use of project funds is difficult to timely monitor, the release of false fundraising projects for fundraising fraud, and so on. For these reasons, fewer members of the public will believe the authenticity of fundraising projects, so that it is not easy to donate to fundraising projects, which also makes it difficult for people who really need to raise funds to treat diseases. In view of this situation, this paper puts forward a blockchain and smart contract-based fundraising system for critical diseases, which can solve the problems existing in third-party platforms, and can help helpers quickly raise funds to cure diseases, it also can avoid the abuse of fundraising funds, false fundraising and other acts. Two sparse adaptive filtering (AF) algorithms based on Andrew's sine estimator (ASE) are presented to achieve improved performance for identifying sparse systems, where the ASE is derived within the least-square framework. Furthermore, zero-attracting (ZA) scheme is used in ASE to construct ZA-ASE and its re-weighting form (RZA-ASE) to combat non-Gaussian noises and use the sparse characteristics of the system. Their performance is investigated via simulations and compared with the least-mean square (LMS) and the maximum correntropy criterion (MCC) algorithms to show their superior performance. © 2022 IEEE.

Efficient Algorithms for Minimizing the Kirchhoff Index via Adding Edges

The Kirchhoff index, which is the sum of the resistance distance between every pair of nodes in a network, is a key metric for gauging network performance, where lower values signify enhanced performance. In this paper, we study the problem of minimizing the Kirchhoff index by adding edges. We first provide a greedy algorithm for solving this problem and give an analysis of its quality based on the bounds of the submodularity ratio and the curvature. Then, we introduce a gradient-based greedy algorithm as a new paradigm to solve this problem. To accelerate the computation cost, we leverage geometric properties, convex hull approximation, and approximation of the projected coordinate of each point. To further improve this algorithm, we use pre-pruning and fast update techniques, making it particularly suitable for large networks. Our proposed algorithms have nearly-linear time complexity. We provide extensive experiments on ten real networks to evaluate the quality of our algorithms. The results demonstrate that our proposed algorithms outperform the state-of-the-art methods in terms of efficiency and effectiveness. SafeCFG: Redirecting Harmful Classifier-Free Guidance for Safe Generation

Diffusion models (DMs) have demonstrated exceptional performance in text-to-image (T2I) tasks, leading to their widespread use. With the introduction of classifier-free guidance (CFG), the quality of images generated by DMs is improved. However, DMs can generate more harmful images by maliciously guiding the image generation process through CFG. Some safe guidance methods aim to mitigate the risk of generating harmful images but often reduce the quality of clean image generation. To address this issue, we introduce the Harmful Guidance Redirector (HGR), which redirects harmful CFG direction while preserving clean CFG direction during image generation, transforming CFG into SafeCFG and achieving high safety and quality generation. We train HGR to redirect multiple harmful CFG directions simultaneously, demonstrating its ability to eliminate various harmful elements while preserving high-quality generation. Additionally, we find that HGR can detect image harmfulness, allowing for unsupervised fine-tuning of safe diffusion models without pre-defined clean or harmful labels. Experimental results show that by incorporating HGR, images generated by diffusion models achieve both high quality and strong safety, and safe DMs trained through unsupervised methods according to the harmfulness detected by HGR also exhibit good safety performance. As the largest class of small non-coding RNAs, piRNAs primarily present in the reproductive cells of mammals, which influence post-transcriptional processes of mRNAs in multiple ways. Effective methods for predicting piRNA and mRNA target relationships can help identify piRNA functions, investigate the possibility of piRNAs as biomarkers and therapeutic targets. In this study, we propose a computational approach for classifying the relationships of piRNA-mRNA pairs based on an interactive inference network (IIN). First, we gather piRNA-mRNA target data, collect sequence data by position alignment, and construct a benchmark dataset. Furthermore, a reliable negative set is constructed by positive-unlabeled learning. Finally, we view a piRNA and a mRNA sequence as a premise and hypothesis sentence, respectively, and IIN model is used to predict the relationship between them. The experiments demonstrate that our method effectively characterizes piRNA-mRNA interaction and could be beneficial for researchers to investigate piRNA functions. © 2023 IEEE.

Open-VCLIP: Transforming CLIP to an Open-vocabulary Video Model via Interpolated Weight Optimization

Contrastive Language-Image Pretraining (CLIP) has demonstrated impressive zero-shot learning abilities for image understanding, yet limited effort has been made to investigate CLIP for zero-shot video recognition. We introduce Open-VCLIP, a simple yet effective approach that transforms CLIP into a strong zero-shot video classifier that can recognize unseen actions and events at test time. Our framework extends CLIP with minimal modifications to model spatial-temporal relationships in videos, making it a specialized video classifier, while striving for generalization. We formally show that training an Open-VCLIP is equivalent to continual learning with zero historical data. To address this problem, we propose Interpolated Weight Optimization, which utilizes the benefit of weight interpolation in both training and test time. We evaluate our method on three popular and challenging action recognition datasets following various zero-shot evaluation protocols and we demonstrate our approach outperforms state-of-the-art methods by clear margins. In particular, we achieve 87.9%, 58.3%, 81.1% zero-shot accuracy on UCF, HMDB and Kinetics-600 respectively, outperforming state-of-the-art methods by 8.3%, 7.8% and 12.2%.
