This paper explores a novel multi-modal alternating learning paradigm pursuing a reconciliation between the exploitation of uni-modal features and the exploration of cross-modal interactions. This is motivated by the fact that current paradigms of multi-modal learning tend to explore multi-modal features simultaneously. The resulting gradient prohibits further exploitation of the features in the weak modality, leading to modality competition, where the dominant modality overpowers the learning process. To address this issue, we study the modality-alternating learning paradigm to achieve reconcilement. Specifically, we propose a new method called ReconBoost to update a fixed modality each time. Herein, the learning objective is dynamically adjusted with a reconcilement regularization against competition with the historical models. By choosing a KL-based reconcilement, we show that the proposed method resembles Friedman's Gradient-Boosting (GB) algorithm, where the updated learner can correct errors made by others and help enhance the overall performance. The major difference with the classic GB is that we only preserve the newest model for each modality to avoid overfitting caused by ensembling strong learners. Furthermore, we propose a memory consolidation scheme and a global rectification scheme to make this strategy more effective. A compact dual polarization dipole antenna for the application to 5G base station is investigated, which is composed of radiator, baluns, and metal reflector, having an impendence bandwidth of 23.6% with VSWR<1.5. The dual-polarized antenna has a high ports isolation, high cross-polarization and high gain in operating bandwidth. The results indicate that this work can operate in entire N78 band and provide potential application for 5G base station.

In the intricate dance of multi-agent systems, achieving average consensus is not just vital–it is the backbone of their functionality. In conventional average consensus algorithms, all agents reach an agreement by individual calculations and sharing information with their respective neighbors. Nevertheless, the information interactions that occur in the communication network may make sensitive information be revealed. In this paper, we develop a new privacy-preserving average consensus method on unbalanced directed networks. Specifically, we ensure privacy preservation by carefully embedding randomness in mixing weights to confuse communications and introducing an extra auxiliary parameter to mask the state-updated rule in initial several iterations. In parallel, we exploit the intrinsic robustness of consensus dynamics to guarantee that the average consensus is precisely achieved. Theoretical results demonstrate that the designed algorithms can converge linearly to the exact average consensus value and can guarantee privacy preservation of agents against both honest-but-curious and eavesdropping attacks. © 2023, CC BY.

As continuous-flow microfluidic biochips technology rapidly advances, its automated synthesis methods require adapting to increasingly complex and stringent biochemical applications. In particular, with the introduction of time-sensitive bioassays, in this work, we present a timing-driven high-level synthesis method to optimize the resource efficiency of bioassays considering the time constraints. Specifically, we investigate the existing forms of time constraints and propose a corresponding flexible modeling approach based on reaction-control which can achieve downward compatibility for physical design. Additionally, we also analyze the impact of storage and wash on time constraints. The experimental results show that our method achieves efficient execution and low devices cost while satisfying time constraints.

Multi-granularity textual adversarial attack with behavior cloning

Recently, the textual adversarial attack models become increasingly popular due to their successful in estimating the robustness of NLP models. However, existing works have obvious deficiencies. (1) They usually consider only a single granularity of modification strategies (e.g. word-level or sentence-level), which is insufficient to explore the holistic textual space for generation;(2) They need to query victim models hundreds of times to make a successful attack, which is highly inefficient in practice. To address such problems, in this paper we propose MAYA, a MultigrAnularitY Attack model to effectively generate high-quality adversarial samples with fewer queries to victim models. Furthermore, we propose a reinforcement-learning based method to train a multi-granularity attack agent through behavior cloning with the expert knowledge from our MAYA algorithm to further reduce the query times. Additionally, we also adapt the agent to attack black-box models that only output labels without confidence scores. We conduct comprehensive experiments to evaluate our attack models by attacking BiLSTM, BERT and RoBERTa in two different black-box attack settings and three benchmark datasets. Experimental results show that our models achieve overall better attacking performance and produce more fluent and grammatical adversarial samples compared to baseline models. Quantum simulation of the Fokker-Planck equation via Schrödingerization

This paper studies a quantum simulation technique for solving the Fokker-Planck equation. Traditional semi-discretization methods often fail to preserve the underlying Hamiltonian dynamics and may even modify the Hamiltonian structure, particularly when incorporating boundary conditions. We address this challenge by employing the Schrödingerization method - it converts any linear partial and ordinary differential equation with non-Hermitian dynamics into systems of Schrödinger-type equations. It does so via the so-called warped phase transformation that maps the equation into one higher dimension. We explore the application in two distinct forms of the Fokker-Planck equation. For the conservation form, we show that the semi-discretization-based Schrödingerization is preferable, especially when dealing with non-periodic boundary conditions. Additionally, we analyze the Schrödingerization approach for unstable systems that possess positive eigenvalues in the real part of the coefficient matrix or differential operator. Our analysis reveals that the direct use of Schrödingerization has the same effect as a stabilization procedure. For the heat equation form, we propose a quantum simulation procedure based on the time-splitting technique, and give explicitly its corresponding quantum circuit. We discuss the relationship between operator splitting in the Schrödingerization method and its application directly to the original problem, illustrating how the Schrödingerization method accurately reproduces the time-splitting solutions at each step. Furthermore, we explore finite difference discretizations of the heat equation form using shift operators. Utilizing Fourier bases, we diagonalize the shift operators, enabling efficient simulation in the frequency space. Providing additional guidance on implementing the diagonal unitary operators, we conduct a comparative analysis between diagonalizations in the Bell and the Fourier bases, and show that the former generally exhibit

MSC Codes 54H30, 68U10, 94A08Remote sensing images are essential for many applications of the earth’s sciences, but their quality can usually be degraded due to limitations in sensor technology and complex imaging environments. To address this, various remote sensing image deblurring methods have been developed to restore sharp and high-quality images from degraded observational data. However, most traditional model-based deblurring methods usually require predefined hand-crafted prior assumptions, which are difficult to handle in complex applications. On the other hand, deep learning-based deblurring methods are often considered as black boxes, lacking transparency and interpretability. In this work, we propose a new blind deblurring learning framework that utilizes alternating iterations of shrinkage thresholds. This framework involves updating blurring kernels and images, with a theoretical foundation in network design. Additionally, we propose a learnable blur kernel proximal mapping module to improve the accuracy of the blur kernel reconstruction. Furthermore, we propose a deep proximal mapping module in the image domain, which combines a generalized shrinkage threshold with a multi-scale prior feature extraction block. This module also incorporates an attention mechanism to learn adaptively the importance of prior information, improving the flexibility and robustness of prior terms, and avoiding limitations similar to hand-crafted image prior terms. Consequently, we design a novel multi-scale generalized shrinkage threshold network (MGSTNet) that focuses specifically on learning deep geometric prior features to enhance image restoration. Experimental results on real and synthetic remote sensing image datasets demonstrate the superiority of our MGSTNet framework compared to existing deblurring methods. Copyright © 2023, The Authors. Knowledge Graph has become a dominant research field in graph theory, but its incompleteness and sparsity hinder its application in various fields. Knowledge Graph Reasoning aims to alleviate these problems by deducing new knowledge or identifying false knowledge from existing knowledge. Recently, the Graph Convolution Network (GCN) based method is one of the most advanced methods to realize knowledge graph reasoning. However, it still suffers from some problems such as incomplete neighbor information aggregation and slow training speed. This paper proposes a knowledge graph reasoning model named GK for the link prediction task, which obtains better performance than existing GCN-based methods by introducing Graphormer into knowledge reasoning. The GK first proposes that nodes and their surroundings can be regarded as a hierarchical architecture that enables the model to capture more practical reasoning information to improve prediction accuracy. In addition, to accelerate the training speed of the model on the large-scale Knowledge Graph, we present a faster shortest path-finding method F-SPF in the edge coding process. Extensive experimental results show that the GK model can obtain the state-of-the-art prediction results of current GCN-based methods and can improve the training speed.

processing high-dimensional data cubes and developing high-performance classifiers are core objectives in the field of hyperspectral image classification (HSIC). Superpixel-based methods are widely used in HSIC due to their efficacy in reducing redundant information and enhancing local features. However, imprecise segmentation, especially in complex structures and textures of hyperspectral images (HSIs), may lead to inconsistencies in the regions extracted by superpixels and the boundaries between different ground objects. Such inconsistencies significantly degrade the classification performance of HSIs. Alternatively, when parameter settings are inaccurate, edge-aware feature extraction methods often introduce sharpening artifacts at the image boundaries, resulting in a decrease in classification accuracy. To effectively address these challenges, we propose a novel probabilistic fusion method for HSIC. This method consists of the following stages. First, spatial information is extracted by a multiscale superpixel segmentation method and then probabilistically optimized by the extended random walk (ERW) method. Next, semantic-aware structural features (S2Fs) are extracted along with edge information of different objects. Lastly, a probabilistic framework is proposed to fuse the class probabilities of superpixel-based spatial information and semantic-aware structural features. Experimental results on three real datasets show state-of-the-art classification performance, even with limited training sets. ©1991-2012 IEEE.

Context-aware entity typing in knowledge graphs

Knowledge graph entity typing aims to infer entities' missing types in knowledge graphs which is an important but under-explored issue. This paper proposes a novel method for this task by utilizing entities' contextual information. Specifically, we design two inference mechanisms: i) N2T: independently use each neighbor of an entity to infer its type;ii) Agg2T: aggregate the neighbors of an entity to infer its type. Those mechanisms will produce multiple inference results, and an exponentially weighted pooling method is used to generate the final inference result. Furthermore, we propose a novel loss function to alleviate the false-negative problem during training. Experiments on two real-world KGs demonstrate the effectiveness of our method.
