Collaborative Metric Learning (CML) has recently emerged as a popular method in recommendation systems (RS), closing the gap between metric learning and Collaborative Filtering. Following the convention of RS, existing methods exploit unique user representation in their model design. This paper focuses on a challenging scenario where a user has multiple categories of interests. Under this setting, we argue that the unique user representation might induce preference bias, especially when the item category distribution is imbalanced. To address this issue, we propose a novel method called Diversity-Promoting Collaborative Metric Learning (DPCML), with the hope of considering the commonly ignored minority interest of the user. The key idea behind DPCML is to include a multiple set of representations for each user in the system. Based on this embedding paradigm, user preference toward an item is aggregated from different embeddings by taking the minimum item-user distance among the user embedding set. Furthermore, we observe that the diversity of the embeddings for the same user also plays an essential role in the model. To this end, we propose a diversity control regularization term to accommodate the multi-vector representation strategy better. Theoretically, we show that DPCML could generalize well to unseen test data by tackling the challenge of the annoying operation that comes from the minimum value. In additive white Gaussian noise（AWGN） channels, construction of polar codes is needed for every operating signal-to-noise ratio（SNR）. Recently, the proposal of the design-SNR reduces the computation effort in constructing polar codes. In this paper, we prove that although the BER performance of the design-SNR construction is not affected, the packet-error-rate（PER） performance is degraded compared with the point-by-point construction. Therefore, a concatenation scheme is proposed to improve the degraded PER performance. Results show the validity of the proposed concatenation scheme when employing the design-SNR construction.

Analogical Learning for Cross-Scenario Generalization: Framework and Application to intelligent Localization

Existing learning models often exhibit poor generalization when deployed across diverse scenarios. It is mainly due to that the underlying reference frame of the data varies with the deployment environment and settings. However, despite the data of each scenario has its distinct reference frame, its generation generally follows the same underlying physical rule. Based on these findings, this article proposes a brand-new universal deep learning framework named analogical learning (AL), which provides a highly efficient way to implicitly retrieve the reference frame information associated with a scenario and then to make accurate prediction by relative analogy across scenarios. Specifically, an elegant bipartite neural network architecture called Mateformer is designed, the first part of which calculates the relativity within multiple feature spaces between the input data and a small amount of embedded data from the current scenario, while the second part uses these relativity to guide the nonlinear analogy. We apply AL to the typical multi-scenario learning problem of intelligent wireless localization in cellular networks. Extensive experiments show that AL achieves state-of-the-art accuracy, stable transferability and robust adaptation to new scenarios without any tuning, and outperforming conventional methods with a precision improvement of nearly two orders of magnitude. Meta auxiliary learning for facial action unit detection

Despite the success of deep neural networks on facial action unit (AU) detection, better performance depends on a large number of training images with accurate AU annotations. However, labeling AU is time-consuming, expensive, and error-prone. Considering AU detection and facial expression recognition (FER) are two highly correlated tasks, and facial expression (FE) is relatively easy to annotate, we consider learning AU detection and FER in a multi-task manner. However, the performance of the AU detection task cannot be always enhanced due to the negative transfer in the multi-task scenario. To alleviate this issue, we propose a Meta Auxiliary Learning method (MAL) that automatically selects highly related FE samples by learning adaptative weights for the training FE samples in a meta learning manner. The learned sample weights alleviate the negative transfer from two aspects: 1) balance the loss of each task automatically, and 2) suppress the weights of FE samples that have large uncertainties. Experimental results on several popular AU datasets demonstrate MAL consistently improves the AU detection performance compared with the state-of-the-art multi-task and auxiliary learning methods. MAL automatically estimates adaptive weights for the auxiliary FE samples according to their semantic relevance with the primary AU detection task. Copyright © 2021, The Authors. Numerical simulation of semiconductor devices enable the quick obtain of the device physical characteristics. However, the trial productions of the semiconductor devices have the disadvantages of long cycle and high cost. Therefore, it is necessary to carry out numerical simulation investigating semiconductor devices. We propose the coupling approach and the decoupling-Gummel method to solve the semiconductor equations. The results of the two methods are compared with the commercial software. Numerical experiment indicates that the results obtained by our method are accurate. When the transistor is at a low voltage bias, the decoupling method converges faster than the coupling method. In the case of high voltage bias, the decoupling method has a slower convergence speed than the coupling method, even difficult to converge for higher voltage bias. However, the coupling method has higher memory requirements than the Gummel method. Therefore, we need to balance the advantages of the coupling method and the Gummel method when conduct the numerical simulation.

Graph jigsaw learning for cartoon face recognition

Cartoon face recognition is challenging as they typically have smooth color regions and emphasized edges, the key to recognize cartoon faces is to precisely perceive their sparse and critical shape patterns. However, it is quite difficult to learn a shape-oriented representation for cartoon face recognition with convolutional neural networks (CNNs). To mitigate this issue, we propose the GraphJigsaw that constructs jigsaw puzzles at various stages in the classification network and solves the puzzles with the graph convolutional network (GCN) in a progressive manner. Solving the puzzles requires the model to spot the shape patterns of the cartoon faces as the texture information is quite limited. The key idea of GraphJigsaw is constructing a jigsaw puzzle by randomly shuffling the intermediate convolutional feature maps in the spatial dimension and exploiting the GCN to reason and recover the correct layout of the jigsaw fragments in a self-supervised manner. The proposed GraphJigsaw avoids training the classification model with the deconstructed images that would introduce noisy patterns and are harmful for the final classification. Specially, GraphJigsaw can be incorporated at various stages in a top-down manner within the classification model, which facilitates propagating the learned shape patterns gradually. GraphJigsaw does not rely on any extra manual annotation during the training process and incorporates no extra computation burden at inference time. Both quantitative and qualitative experimental results have verified the feasibility of our proposed GraphJigsaw, which consistently outperforms other face recognition or jigsaw-based methods on two popular cartoon face datasets with considerable improvements. © 2021, CC BY-NC-SA.

Learning fair face representation with progressive cross transformer

Face recognition (FR) has made extraordinary progress owing to the advancement of deep convolutional neural networks. However, demographic bias among different racial cohorts still challenges the practical face recognition system. The race factor has been proven to be a dilemma for fair FR (FFR) as the subject-related specific attributes induce the classification bias whilst carrying some useful cues for FR. To mitigate racial bias and meantime preserve robust FR, we abstract face identityrelated representation as a signal denoising problem and propose a progressive cross transformer (PCT) method for fair face recognition. Originating from the signal decomposition theory, we attempt to decouple face representation into i) identity-related components and ii) noisy/identity-unrelated components induced by race. As an extension of signal subspace decomposition, we formulate face decoupling as a generalized functional expression model to cross-predict face identity and race information. The face expression model is further concretized by designing dual cross-transformers to distill identity-related components and suppress racial noises. In order to refine face representation, we take a progressive face decoupling way to learn identity/racespecific transformations, so that identity-unrelated components induced by race could be better disentangled. We evaluate the proposed PCT on the public fair face recognition benchmarks (BFW, RFW) and verify that PCT is capable of mitigating bias in face recognition while achieving state-of-the-art FR performance. Voice conversion (VC) systems can transform audio to mimic another speaker’s voice, thereby attacking speaker verification (SV) systems. However, ongoing studies on source speaker verification (SSV) are hindered by limited data availability and methodological constraints. This paper presents the Source Speaker Tracking Challenge (SSTC) on STL 2024, which aims to fill the gap in the database and benchmark for the SSV task. In this study, we generate a large-scale converted speech database with 16 common VC methods and train a batch of baseline systems based on the MFA-Conformer architecture. In addition, we introduced a related task called conversion method recognition, with the aim of assisting the SSV task. We expect SSTC to be a platform for advancing the development of the SSV task and provide further insights into the performance and limitations of current SV systems against VC attacks. In multimodal multiobjective optimization problems (MMOPs), there may be local Pareto optimal solutions (PSs). Finding both global PS and local PS simultaneously can provide additional options for decision makers. However, since individuals on the global Pareto front (PF) dominate individuals on the local PF, traditional multimodal multiobjective evolutionary algorithms (MMEAs) cannot effectively handle MMOPs with local PF (MMOPLs). In this paper, we improve our previous dynamic-niching-based Pareto domination (DNPD) approach to search for local Pareto optimal solutions. The new version is called niching-based non-dominated sorting (NNSL). There are two improvements to NNSL. First, the dynamic niche is changed to a fixed niche to increase the diversity of the population. Second, individuals with poor convergence in the non-dominated layer are deleted to ensure the convergence of the population. NNSL can be combined with Pareto dominance-based algorithms. We apply NNSL to solve MMOPLs (MMF_e and IDMP_e series). Experiments show that NNSL can help traditional MMEAs find global PF/PS and local PF/PS simultaneously. © 2025

PIWI-interacting RNAs (piRNAs) are a type of small non-coding RNAs which bind with the PIWI proteins to exert biological effects in various regulatory mechanisms. A growing amount of evidence reveals that exosomal piRNAs are potential biomarkers for diagnosis and treatment of complex diseases. Effective methods for the prediction of exosomal piRNAs are the foundation of piRNA functional research. In this study, we propose an end-to-end deep network for identifying exosomal piRNAs based on features learned from natural language processing (NLP) models for sequence embedding with attention mechanism. First, a benchmark dataset is constructed by processing piRNA subcellular localization annotated data and sequence data. Moreover, bagging positive unlabeled learning is applied to get the reliable negative set. Finally, we treat a piRNA sequence as a sentence and its k-mer subsequence as a token. Sequence embedding models with self-attention mechanism is designed to extract features from exosome piRNA sequences, which are used for the prediction task. Compared with three competing methods, our model achieves the best performance and reveals the key factors of exosomal piRNA sequences by the attention mechanism. Our model characterizes exosomal piRNAs and could be beneficial for researchers to investigate exosomal piRNAs’ functions.
