This paper proposes a novel methodology based on V-system polynomials for content-based search and retrieval of 3D objects. The V-system is composed by piecewise polynomials, and is capable of exactly describing the geometric information expressed by the popularly and widely used spline curves and surface. We define rotation invariant moments-v-system moment by combining V-system polynomials with spherical harmonics. After preprocessing for translation and scale invariance, the spherical extension is used as input for V-system moments and the values of obtained coefficients are considered as components of the feature vector. We evaluate on the Princeton Shape Benchmark, the proposed descriptors regarding computational aspects and shape retrieval performance. The-performance of the proposed method is compared to some previous approaches by means of precision/recall tests. Generally, results show that the new approach introduces improvements in the SD model retrieval process.

And we propose an agent grid intelligent platform called AGrIP, which can erase information islands and integrate external systems efficiently by encapsulating the distributed application system to agents. Knowledge engineering stems from E. A. Figenbaum's proposal in 1977, but it will enter a new decade with the new challenges. This paper first summarizes three knowledge engineering experiments we have undertaken to show possibility of separating knowledge development from intelligent software development. We call it the ICAX mode of intelligent application software generation. The key of this mode is to generate knowledge base, which is the source of intelligence of ICAX software, independently and parallel to intelligent software development. That gives birth to a new and more general concept "knowware". Knowware is a commercialized knowledge module with documentation and intellectual property, which is computer operable, but free of any built-in control mechanism, meeting some industrial standards and embeddable in software/hardware. The process of development, application and management of knowware is called knowware engineering. Two different knowware life cycle models are discussed: the furnace model and the crystallization model. Knowledge middleware is a class of software functioning in all aspects of knowware life cycle models. Finally, this paper also presents some examples of building knowware in the domain of information system engineering.
