The concurrency of edges, quantified by the number of edges that share a common node at a given time point, may be an important determinant of epidemic processes in temporal networks. We propose theoretically tractable Markovian temporal network models in which each edge flips between the active and inactive states in continuous time. The different models have different amounts of concurrency while we can tune the models to share the same statistics of edge activation and deactivation (and hence the fraction of time for which each edge is active) and the structure of the aggregate (i.e., static) network. We analytically calculate the amount of concurrency of edges sharing a node for each model. We then numerically study effects of concurrency on epidemic spreading in the stochastic susceptible-infectious-susceptible and susceptible-infectious-recovered dynamics on the proposed temporal network models. We find that the concurrency enhances epidemic spreading near the epidemic threshold while this effect is small in many cases. Furthermore, when the infection rate is substantially larger than the epidemic threshold, the concurrency suppresses epidemic spreading in a majority of cases. In sum, our numerical simulations suggest that the impact of concurrency on enhancing epidemic spreading within our model is consistently present near the epidemic threshold but modest. The proposed temporal network models are expected to be useful for investigating effects of concurrency on various collective dynamics on networks including both infectious and other dynamics. Randomizing hypergraphs preserving degree correlation and local clustering

Many complex systems involve direct interactions among more than two entities and can be represented by hypergraphs, in which hyperedges encode higher-order interactions among an arbitrary number of nodes. To analyze structures and dynamics of given hypergraphs, a solid practice is to compare them with those for randomized hypergraphs that preserve some specific properties of the original hypergraphs. In the present study, we propose a family of such reference models for hypergraphs, called the hyper dk-series, by extending the so-called dk-series for dyadic networks to the case of hypergraphs. The hyper dk-series preserves up to the individual node’s degree, node’s degree correlation, node’s redundancy coefficient, and/or the hyperedge’s size depending on the parameter values. Furthermore, we numerically find that higher-order hyper dk-series more accurately preserves the shortest path length and degree distribution of the one-mode projection of the original hypergraph, which the method does not intend to preserve. We also apply the hyper dk-series to numerical simulations of epidemic spreading and evolutionary game dynamics on empirical social hypergraphs. We find that the hyperedge’s size affects these dynamics more than any of the node’s properties and that the node’s degree correlation and redundancy in the empirical hypergraphs promote cooperation. Topology can manifest itself in colloids when quantified by invariants like Euler characteristics of nonzero-genus colloidal surfaces, albeit spherical colloidal particles are most often studied, and colloidal particles with complex topology are rarely considered. On the other hand, singular defects and topological solitons often define the physical behavior of the molecular alignment director fields in liquid crystals. Interestingly, nematic liquid crystalline dispersions of colloidal particles allow for probing the interplay between topologies of surfaces and fields, but only a limited number of such cases have been explored so far. Here, we study the hybridization of topological solitons, singular defects, and topologically nontrivial colloidal particles with the genus of surfaces different from zero in a chiral nematic liquid crystal phase. Hybridization occurs when distortions separately induced by colloidal particles and LC solitons overlap, leading to energy minimization-driven redistribution of director field deformations and defects. As a result, hybrid director configurations emerge, combining topological features from both components. We uncover a host of director field configurations complying with topological theorems, which can be controlled by applying electric fields. Rotational and translational dynamics arise due to the nonreciprocal evolution of the director fields in response to alternating electric fields of different frequencies. These findings help define a platform for controlling topologically hyper-complex colloidal structures and dynamics with electrically reconfigurable singular defects and topological solitons induced by colloidal handlebodies. Indonesia is earthquake and tsunami prone areas, included Sumatera Island. Bandar Lampung is also vulnerable to earthquake and tsunami, especially Kangkung fishing village in Lampung Bay. Disaster risk reduction is very important to be implemented in the cases of earthquake and tsunami, which can save more life and build resilience in facing the hazard. This research aimed to study how the knowledge, awareness, and resilience of people in Kangkung fishing village can strengthen the earthquake and tsunami disaster risk reduction. This research conducted by quantitative methods. Survey and interview of 53 respondents were conducted as well as data collecting approached by purposive sampling. The results found that there is little knowledge and awareness of people in Kangkung fishing village of the hazard of earthquake and tsunami. Therefore, this research proposed a model of "Community-Based Resilience Strategy"Model of earthquake and tsunami disaster risk reduction. It is a comprehensive and sustainable model of how people take a part in disaster risk reduction by intensive participatory. Conclusion of this research emphasized that disaster risk reduction is a big matter in marginalized society such as people in Kangkung fishing village. Today, almost everyone has done online shopping activities. The presence of e-commerce makes it easier for humans to do shopping. E-commerce companies compete to provide the best service to the community. One of them is in the delivery within the city. In terms of city delivery, the 2E-VRP model has been discussed a lot lately in terms of consolidating shipments. This study aims to present the 2E-VRP mathematical model and work in two stages to find a solution. In this article, the author also compares solutions with several heuristic models including 2-opt, repetitive nearest neighbor, nearest neighbor, farthest insertion, cheapest insertion, arbitrary insertion, and nearest insertion. From the results of research conducted by the 2-opt method, farthest insertion, cheapest insertion, and nearest insertion, the total distance is the best, all three get the same distance, then followed by the nearest insertion, arbitrary insertion, and nearest insertion methods.

Simulating local fields in carbon nanotube reinforced composites for infinite strip with voids

We consider the steady heat conduction problem within a thermal isotropic and homogeneous infinite strip composite reinforced by uniformly and randomly distributed non-overlapping carbon nanotubes (CNTs) and containing voids. We treat the CNTs as thin perfectly conducting elliptic inclusions and assume the voids to be of circular shape and act as barriers to heat flow. We also impose isothermal conditions on the external boundaries by assuming the lower infinite wall to be a heater under a given temperature, and the upper wall to be a cooler that can be held at a lower fixed temperature. The equations for the temperature distribution are governed by the two-dimensional Laplace equation with mixed Dirichlet-Neumann boundary conditions. The resulting boundary value problem is solved using the boundary integral equation with the generalized Neumann kernel. We illustrate the performance of the proposed method through several numerical examples including the case of the presence a large number of CNTs and voids. © 2021, CC BY-NC-ND.

Continuous glucose monitoring(CGM) technology has grown rapidly to track real-time blood glucose levels and trends with improved sensor accuracy. The ease of use and wide availability of CGM will facilitate safe and effective decision making for diabetes management. Here, we developed an attention-based deep learning model, CGMformer, pretrained on a well-controlled and diverse corpus of CGM data to represent individual's intrinsic metabolic state and enable clinical applications. During pretraining, CGMformer encodes glucose dynamics including glucose level, fluctuation, hyperglycemia, and hypoglycemia into latent space with self-supervised learning. It shows generalizability in imputing glucose value across five external datasets with different populations and metabolic states(MAE = 3.7 mg/d L). We then fine-tuned CGMformer towards a diverse panel of downstream tasks in the screening of diabetes and its complications using task-specific data, which demonstrated a consistently boosted predictive accuracy over direct fine-tuning on a single task(AUROC = 0.914 for type 2 diabetes(T2D) screening and 0.741 for complication screening). By learning an intrinsic representation of an individual's glucose dynamics,CGMformer classifies non-diabetic individuals into six clusters with elevated T2D risks, and identifies a specific cluster with lean body-shape but high risk of glucose metabolism disorders, which is overlooked by traditional glucose measurements. Furthermore, CGMformer achieves high accuracy in predicting an individual's postprandial glucose response with dietary modelling(Pearson correlation coefficient = 0.763)and helps personalized dietary recommendations. Overall, CGMformer pretrains a transformer neural network architecture to learn an intrinsic representation by borrowing information from a large amount of daily glucose profiles, and demonstrates predictive capabilities fine-tuned towards a broad range of downstream applications, holding promise for the ear

Wastewater produced by batik industry in Cibelok Village, Pemalang that is disposed straight into the sewage will increase the concentration of Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD), ammonia (NH3), Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD), chromium (Cr), lead (Pb), watercolour, acidity (pH), and dissolved oxygen (DO). Disposed batik wastewater without treatment will contaminate the environment, mainly its water and soil. The main purpose of this research is to reduce the concentration of Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD), Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD), ammonia (NH3), chromium (Cr), lead (Pb), watercolour, acidity, and dissolved oxygen (DO) by treating batik Cibelok's waste and not contaminate the surrounding environment. Laboratory test results on batik waste in COD, BOD, DO, ammonia, chromium, lead, colour, and acidity (pH). These results are not in accordance with the 2014 Waste Water Quality Standard Number 5 by the Regulation of the Minister of Environment of the Republic of Indonesia. Alternatives that have been done to treat Cibelok Village's batik waste is to lower dangerous substances concentration through electrocoagulation and filtration. The processes could lower COD level around 57.6%, ammonia 98%, chromium 85%, and BOD 67%. Reducing the concentration of the substance makes the batik waste safer and environmentally friendly when it's finally disposed to the sewage. © 2020 IOP Publishing Ltd.

A long-standing question in water research is the possibility that supercooled liquid water can undergo a liquid-liquid phase transition (LLT) into high- and low-density liquids. We used several complementary molecular simulation techniques to evaluate the possibility of an LLT in an ab initio neural network model of water trained on density functional theory calculations with the SCAN exchange correlation functional. We conclusively show the existence of a first-order LLT and an associated critical point in the SCAN description of water, representing the first definitive computational evidence for an LLT in water from first principles.

Curcumin, a potent natural compound known for its health benefits, encounters challenges such as low bioavailability and poor solubility. To overcome these obstacles, incorporating curcumin into metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) has emerged as a promising approach. This study explores the in-situ modification of UiO-66-NH2 (UiO stands for Universitetet i Oslo) with curcumin, aiming to assess its release and delivery potential. Chemical, structural, morphological, and textural analyses confirmed the successful synthesis of the materials. Nitrogen sorption isotherm, field-emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) revealed that curcumin addition led to decrease in surface area (from 829.6 m2/g to 679.92 m2/g) and porosity, as well as alterations in particle size (from 0.162 to 0.068 μm) and shape from octahedral to spherical. The release behavior of curcumin exhibited pH-dependent profiles, with cumulative releases (∼20 % at pH 4.8, and 30.56 % at pH 7.4) fitting Kosmeyer-Peppas model. Biological activity assays indicated non-toxicity, suggesting potential for curcumin delivery. © 2024
